Asteria - Thoughts About Its Future [EN/PT]
Mr. Indigo
Asteria lives in constant ups and downs. There are days that make us think that we will conquer the world, and shortly after that we as a group fail so much that it looks like the end is near.
During the Epic Warfare event we saw both extremes. First we had eGreece having fantastic victories against a whole bunch of nations, and then we had eSerbia losing its revenge campaign against eChile mostly due to the support they got from eCroatia and ePoland.
The reasons for that are multiple. All through its existence we got used to watch plenty of people fighting where they weren`t supposed to. Other times it is a nation or two going silent or even having revolutionary thoughts.
Indeed, these past several weeks a few plots to try to achieve the dissolution of Asteria showed up on the radar of the eRepublik community. They peaked around the time ePoland honored their Sirius and Aurora partners with kind words and then signed a MPP with eHungary and tried to sign with a few Asteria members with the clear intent of breaking up our alliance.
That plan did not work, at least thus far, but it is quite obvious that there are factions in several countries preparing and sometimes even cheering for the break up of our alliance, and that is natural, because there are a few unresolved issues in almost all alliances in the game.
My friends, the end of Asteria won`t be for the benefit of our nations.
eBrazil was luck enough to break out of its past differences with eArgentina and eRomania. We were able to rebuild our relationship with those nations and all the other nations in Asteria and eHungary itself, and most of us can attest that this is the best group of allies we had in a very, very, long time. And not just that, we also found new friends and a community with which we can chat, relate and play together, which is even more important, because we play this game to have fun.
Today most of our nations are in a position they weren`t a few months ago. Serbia had 14/15 until a few days ago, Argentina has full food and weapons bonus, Greece gets there all the time, Romania, Slovenia and Brazil do not face a constant risk of a wipe. Our only real open issue is China, but that will be solved whenever they ask us for further help.
If I may remind everybody, most of what I just said was quite different earlier in the year. Chile was rampaging throughout Europe, wiping our member left and right and Croatia`s CO was causing a whole host of problems
Right now we face two open issues, and their names are eHungary and ePoland.
While they are out there, looking for a new geopolitical organization of our eWorld we will face problems in our battles (people fighting where they aren`t supposed to be), we will face nations trying to destroy Asteria to mount a new alliance system and we will face internal factions in some of our member-nations trying to push us out of Asteria so those new alliances can see the light of the day.
Do we really want ePoland 100% back into Sirius? Or, even worse, do we really want eHungary joining the other side? Those are some (but not all) of the questions we also have to ask ourselves.
However, every problem is an opportunity as well.
If somehow, and I don`t know exactly how to accomplish that (and this is not the correct place for that anyway), we can set aside the issues between eHungary and eRomania so Asteria can work as a full machine again and maybe bring ePoland to our side of the game, we will have consolidated Asteria as the powerhouse of the server AND we will have at least weakened most of the pressures some of us face to destroy our alliance.
That shouldn`t be any harder than bringing eBrazil, eArgentina and eRomania together in the same alliance after all the fight we saw in the past. We just need the will and the patience to get there.
And if we do that, then…

I wrote that a few days before Poland NE`d Serbia. It still is something to think about.
The article is interesting, Asteria + PolHun would be very similar to TWO. However, I doubt Poland will ever leave Spain and that would cause another problems since Asterias countries don't like Spain at all.
Yep, that is a problem as well, but where there is a will there is a way.
Actually i don't think there are countries that like Poland either.

yep
nice article
Hail ASTERIA!

You got a lot of things wrong. The problems of Asteria come from Greece (agreements with Turkey and Croatia not to fight against each other) and Romania which wants to see the relations between Serbia and Hungary, broken for good.
The alliance is Greek central, with Serbia having a secondary role with everyone else "if there is time" for them.
Actually the only thing keeping the alliance together is the "Terroristas", because of them there is an imbalance to the ability of countries on the other side to act and this levels the field, otherwise Asteria would be run over quite quickly even as it has more "raw damage".
The reason is simple, it is full of interest based relationships, which traditionally disintegrate the moment things start to go bad.
As for the future, it is quite logical why there was an attempt to bring Poland in, as the only way to achieve enough of an advantage in damage to keep it together. Hungary will sooner or later leave the Asteria orbit, simply because it no longer has a say and with time it's limited at best influence over some players in Serbia will diminish more and more. Serbia is entirely dependent on Greece and thus together with Romania they represent more damage and more influence then Hungary, which means there is no possible reproachment for SerHun. The only question is how long will Hungary slave for Asteria and Romania and how much damage as a country they will take in waiting.
Brazil would have been in the same position as it is now in any of the 3 alliances, as long as it was part of the South American agreement, as long as that agreement is in place, then Brazil will be fine, it has nothing to do with Asteria.
China will leave sooner rather then later, depending on how much direct influence the Romanians still have through old accounts there. They will end up most likely in Pacifica, following RoC and where are the Russians whith whom they have had good relations even in opposite sides for years.
France which has been used a damage drain by Asteria as well, will over time find an agreement similar to the one Germany has and will most likely also join Pacifica, thus Asteria will start to feel more and more surrounded by everyone else.
Unfortunately it has no way to avoid this, since Greece only plays for bonuses and oppression of Macedonia because of RL dispute over the name of the country. While the Macedonians did give Greece a NAP and their freedom at a time when the roles were reversed, the Greeks are incapable of the same and eventually as the role of the Terroristats diminishes and Greece is no longer able to secure it's objectives by back-room agreements the whole power structure upon which Asteria is built will begin to crack.
Of course it is entirely possible that the admins will successfully chase away enough players so that the "tanks" can play to their hearts desire against each other and none of the above will matter at all.
By the way, the big CO spenders are Greece and Romania, basically the two countries who the admins help out on a regular basis.
Dude, you have a few good points, but let me correct you regarding Brazil and South America.
First, before our agreement with Argentina we were wiped, and chances are we still would be wiped if there was no agreement.
Second, there is no deal in South America any longer.
Brazil actually was offered to be part of the original agreement it declined, if it had not it would have been in this position much earlier.
The irony of it all is, that it was over Peru, which it had in the past been holding permanently occupied for years.
While the South American agreement might have dissolved (I don't know as I'm not that interest to follow things anymore), it's legacy is what is keeping things as they're right now and will do so until the summer at least. Only then when it is the southern hemisphere's winter may you see new wars in South America break out possibly.
Of course in such a scenario, Brazil will be worst off, as both Chile and Argentina have a lot of foreigners with CS which increases their damage considerably. Both did about 292 billion last week, yet the CS damage was over 700 billion for Chile and over 600 billion for Argentina.
In such a situation Brazil will be asked to be the difference maker, but that would mean opening itself up for attack by Spain/USA/Venezuela/Indonesia.
Mexico would neutralize Columbia and Paraguay can compensate Uruguay. So as you see if conflicts become rampant in South America again, things are stacked up against Argentina and Brazil, which at best will have a support role.
Help from Europe will not materialize as long as they have their own problems.
Add to that tournaments and so at which Chile excels if they choose so and things start to look even worst. Of course this is not in the direct interest of Chile either, so conflict will be promoted from outside, most likely Romania/Greece if they end up in a tough situation and need a "distraction" with which to eliminate Chilean influence on European fronts, especially if Chile does another European expedition as this year.
errr, no, we and Peru were excluded from the original meetings that formed TETAS because we were occupied by Argentina and Peru was occupied by Chile. TETAS opened itself to Brazil only as part of our approximation with Argentina.
Anyway, in your analizes you forgot to factor Peru.
The rest is quite possible, but other things can happen as well. I decided to give up on being sure about the future after I saw all those ups and downs in such a short time,,,
No, Peru was excluded, Brazil would have been there if they wanted....I was part of those times I know. Anyway that's a long time ago now and it doesn't really matter. My comment to that was that it is not because of Asteria that things changed for Brazil, neither because of Argentina, but because of the change of the status quo in South America largely due to the TETAS agreement.
As for Peru, their only value is to supply Chile with RWs from time to time, they will continue to whither down. The few small tanks they have who bought accounts from Bulgarians are unable to do much more then create a lot of noise. The will be like Bosnia in the Balkans, except there is no one around interested in propping them up, as Croatia is with Bosnia.
The same with Australia, who dug themselves early on the same way. They received help only as long as the Greeks were interested in their crusade against Macedonia, the rest of the time no one is at all interested in them, even for their limited damage.
We even have the logs of the meeting that created TETAS, WITHOUT the participation or even the invitation of a representative from Brasil and Peru.
Beside that, there was no discussion inside Brazil about us being a part of TETAS at that time (which means that we were not invited).
Even more, what was the point of putting Brazil there if it was occupied and Argentina needed our territory for their bonus?
That just didn`t happen.
Regarding Peru, they still are the 4th biggest damage in South America. Far from the top two, but it is something to consider when we start to think about who would nullify each other. Inside South America the blocks at this time are Chile + Paraguay + Venezuela + Bolivia vs Argentina + Brazil + Colombia + Peru + Uruguay.

Saudades do wipe, nê?
Its better to wipe out Bulgaria rather than help your less powerful allies. Good allies.
