Dear fellow citizens,
I want to ask you all a very, very small favor.
You’ll probably all agree that eRepublik is just a GREAT game. If you do, you’ll also agree with the next sentence: eRepublik is just a game.
In the last days, there has been a lot of discussion about certain people on the eUNL forum and in various newspapers.
Some actions done by these people have been doubted by others. This is good. We live in a digital democracy, and people are free to discuss and give their opinion. However, we sometimes tend to forget that behind these played game characters are REAL people (yes, just like you). We attack the game character, but (un)consciously could insult/hurt the person behind it.
I don’t care whether you disagree with somebody because he/she is in another alliance or in another party. I don’t care if he’s a minister or president doing something wrong. These are all GAME characters.
(Below I have mentioned just a few examples – I hope you see what I mean.)
Now, the ONLY thing I want to ask you: please consider the person BEHIND the game character when attacking/blaming somebody. Try to vision what your words would do to you if someone else wrote them to you. If you even only think that your words could hurt him/her, try to rephrase.
And IF you do hurt somebody, while it’s not your intention, it’s perfectly okay to offer your excuses.
But doesn’t saying sorry make me look weak? Good question, glad you aske😛
no, you will NOT be considered weak then! In my opinion, that would be really strong. You don’t even have to do it publicly, sending a message on the forum or PM is also fine.
Remember: eRepublik is just a game.
It’s up to us to keep eRepublik just a GREAT game.
Thanks!
Boklevski
Below, I have listed three examples from recent eUNL events. It might show what I mean. It might also make some people think about offering excuses. I’m not obliging or blaming ANYBODY here, but if you feel you should try to make relations with these persons better again, please do so.
ThomasRED, our Country President, has been on eRepublik less than normal recently due to “personal reasons”. Now, it is okay to argue that the president character should be active, if that’s your opinion. However, you cannot blame ThomasRED personally for being less active. People even dare to say he has to explain what “personal reasons” contribute to his “inactivity”. Come on, guys, the guy has a life; if he’s not telling it, then it’s not of our concern!
You’ve probably also all heard about Frerk (Minister of Defense), who made an intervention in the PTO against GVD. Now, it is okay to argue that the minister of defense character should not intervene in party politics, if that’s your opinion. However, you cannot go around telling everybody who wants (or even doesn’t want) to listen that Frerk is misusing powers whenever he can and instantly claiming he is unfit for politics.
Kixtart is one great forum admin. He’s there always for us to keep the forum neat and going. Part of this is adding and removing the user rights. Now, it is okay to argue that the forum admin should not remove access rights of important characters if they appear inactive, if that’s your opinion. However, you cannot post all around the forum that Kixtart can’t be trusted and that he should immediately drop his function as admin. Be glad he’s doing that!
Thanks all for reading this!
…
Yeah, you can all continue playing eRepublik now.

I still need votes people:
For all those who don't want an inactive president and believe in a cooperation between Belgium and the Netherlands vote me!
come to the eastern Netherlands to vote for me(moving ticket to eastern Netherlands and back to your old place payed by me 🙂 )
I'm listed for I&W, I'm not an official member of their party and I act independent.
why is this? I can not agree with a party on all aspects, and joining a party would limit my vision, but I think I&W has some good ideas and friendly people
last action of me:
Impeaching the president because he was inactive, an inactive president is as good as no president...(bp voted against out of fear and it failed)
ps: be sure to check out my presentation, no it's not porn
and yeah maybe we should not be so "hard" on each other but the fact is that most people enter "rage mode" faster on the internet... that is why we should try to care less about insults that are not aimed at an ACTION of a person.
Trical : the spammer, if you want vote, make your own newspaper and don't spam articles from the others.
I must say it is a nice article and I agree with you so.

I agree with you. But I fear that you can't change people. What you see right here is a perfect example of the many flaws humanity possesses.
You can only achieve change when everyone is willing too change. I doubt everyone is willing to alter the way they think.
Mark, unfortunately, I have to agree. However, I don't want to change people. I think we actually all know this already, we just forget it sometimes.
I just want to raise a bit of awareness. If only one person in one situation is a bit more careful towards somebody else in some future, then the article had some use.
... and who knows what happens if it's more than one person 😉
"In the last days, there has been a lot of discussion about certain people on the eUNL forum and in various newspapers."
lol, I think you mean the last 3/4 months.
Whatever, a rational criticism is not an insult. And the two can be personnaly taken. Insulting is clearly wrong (maybe not in the case of RP...). Criticising a character's behavior (in fact, the player behavior) in a rational way (not saying "Why do your ecountry is X, you are living in Y !" or something like "Your food is worse than mine because you got it for less" or even "God said you must train before working !" lol), about something that concerns the game (and not the color of his hair...) is not wrong. If the guy find himself insulted by a constructive comment, then he's stupid...
But, apart from that, internet conversations are not "complete" and can be easely badly understood, so it's always a good thing to watch your words.
Agree, and voted!
