Asgard and Asteria - the background of the cooperation pact

Day 2,289, 07:43 Published in Finland Finland by TheJuliusCaesar

During the recent weeks I've heard multiple people asking about the reasons behind Asgard's recent sliding towards the Asteria alliance - cooperating more tightly with and overally leaning towards them more and more. My aim in this article is to explain the certain events which took place during the gone months, and which certainly had a major effect on Asgard's foreign policy outlines for the future.
I am going to talk about the escalation of alliance politics in near past, failed ABC-peace and the while ago published Asgard/Asteria pact. I am bound to enlighten the circumstances which led to these actions and events.

Let's start from the beginning of the escalation which ultimately lead to the collapse of the TWO alliance. At the minute we saw the early signs of upcoming fragmentation of the TWO alliance, we in Asgard HQ immediately discussed the possible solutions and directions to go once eWorld proceeds to the era after TWO. This all happened during the autumn of 2013. Already back then we reached a clear consensus of what were going to be the outlines of Asgardian foreign policy during the upcoming months. This direction was - right from the start - antiPoland. This was due the fact that Poland had continuously supported Estonia (along with other ABC countries) and UK, Asgard's main enemies. Further more, Poland pledged to continue doing so when asked by Asgard HQ during the negotiations between our representatives. Therefore aligning with Poland just wasn't really a realistic option for us to proceed with even before the upcoming events.

During the late 2013 and early 2014, when things were still yet to unfold, Asgard pursued to sign peace with ABC countries in order to provide both sides more cards on hand when it comes to unfolding alliance situation. Finland signed a peace with Estonia - a peace which is still in action (appreciating their commitment greatly.) Later, Asgard tried to and even managed to sign a short term peace with Lithuania, who - only a day after its signing and after Swedish attack to their cores was lost per the agreement - broke the peace by seizing their opportunity and attacking on our back while Asgard was busy with FYROMian aggression (more about that later).
This led to the hardening of our attitudes towards Lithuania and being more sceptical about the possibility of a lasting peace with them. The blow was a turnoff to our ambition for peace with them. As Lithuania was sliding more and more towards Polish side, this was one step further to make us feel we shouldn't go the same way.

Along with the Lithuanian backstab, also another event during the very same time cemented our position as an antiPoland-alliance: the airstrike conducted by FYROM. We were - in a matter of fact - contacted for the first time by the president of FYROM when their Airstrike law had already been proposed. Right from the start, FYROMian attitude was arrogant, even imperialistic. As we in Asgard had our hands already full with Lithuanian (peace negotiations, though) and British invasions, we kindly refused from accepting their plan to commit an airstrike to Norway. Their presence would have not helped us in any way, in fact it would only have favored UK, as FYROM had already signed a NAP with them before consulting the target of their "friendly" airstrike, Norway. Yes, you read right. FYROM told us they had no time for proper, full length negotiations, yet they had time to agree with UK - our enemies - on a non-aggression pact with each other. That's the way they roll. Yes, I am bitter and butthurt, but I have a valid reason.
So Asgard refused to accept their terms. Of course we thought this would be enough for them and that FYROM would then pursue a target elsewhere. Well, not a chance. FYROM insisted they needed their congress, and airstriked Norway despite Asgard's strong disapproval. This move forced us to lean even more on Asterian direction, as Greece & co. were more than happy to help us with FYROMian extermination. These two acts made it totally clear that our place was not at the Polish side.

Ultimately, being antiPoland means being proSerbia. This - of course - leads to certain difficulties regarding relations with countries like Croatia and USA who have been crucial, invaluable partners, friends and allies along the way, who simply can't be replaced. Still, as these friends are aligning with Poland, which is impossible for Finland and Asgard, we heavy heartedly need to say farewell for now to these countries.
This doesn't mean Finland's attitude nor respect towards Croatia and USA has changed a bit. This doesn't mean we hold grudge, that we hate you. This simply means that we at the moment can't sign MPP with you nor can we tightly cooperate with you.
One day I hope to see Finland, USA and Croatia fighting side by side again. But today - most unfortunately - is not the day.

I hope this helped you to understand Asgard's motives and ideas behind the alignation with Asteria. I want to express my sincerest gratitude to all of our great allies. No matter who are you alignating with after the alliance reshuffle, it won't wipe off the past joint endeavours, successful campaigns and all the great time we've had together.
