As the Days Go By

Pour it.

Malarkey83's Dead
I got involved in the Federealist party, truly, about a year ago. I was assigned to the FBI, the Feds internal security so to speak. The FBI goes through all the IP addresses of everyone on their forum and essentially multi-hunts. It's time consuming work.

I remember seeing Malarkey's name there, in the FBI Director spot. He was the man in charge, and I was proud to see him so. Because I was still pretending to be a new player, he didn't know that once upon a time I had mentored him. This was back when I was playing as Athanaric, few years back, when he was just a noob.

And now, he was my boss.

I recall logging into the gdoc and seeing his name and color beside almost every single checkmarked person. It was amazing. I mean, here's this list of literally thousands of names, that takes hours to go through, and the guy basically did it by himself.

That set the bar pretty high. When the head of your department is the hardest working guy in it, you want to do your best to keep up.

So I did. I made it a daily goal of mine to at least be the number two FBI checker behind him. For a couple months, we went strong in our daily duties. It was all behind the scenes work, mind you. Tireless, toiling, you don't get much credit. It's the type of bitchwork that doesn't get you noticed but needs to be done.

Malark was that type of guy. He was one of the hardest working people I ever met in this game.

He made me want to be a Federalist, and he made me proud of that party when I was a part of it.

Even after I came out, our friendship only grew. It was a bit odd how we were essentially reversed. He was now the important one, while I was relatively low on the echelon rankings. Just some returned oldfag. But he never treated me that way.

He never treated me like a new and incompetent player, even when he didn't know I'd been playing the game before he was around. He decent sort like that.

He and I remained close. I'd text him sometimes when things were hard, and we'd joke and shoot the shit in private queries. Malark was and is the sort of person who you could always rely on.

He never did anything for political gain, never ladder climbed or back stabbed. He was given a job, and he did it to his best.

He's cut from the same cloth as rainysunday is. Those rare few players who don't really have any ambition, even though they could rightfully seize whatever they wanted. They work their asses off, oftentimes without any thanks or regard, and they do damn fine work, day in and day out.

Malarkey was an embodiment of the Federalist motto of country over all. He put himself through a demanding schedule... and he burnt out. Nobody can keep it up for that long.

He's doing well. He didn't quit for bad RL reasons, but for the good ones, and might be back. We'll see. But for now, we've lost a true friend to this country, and an all-around great guy.

I wrote this article because Malarkey83 was a person who deserved more credit than he ever got. He was my student, then my boss, then my friend. Still is. And he's the sort of person we all should aspire to be in this game.

It'd make this country a better place.

Remember the ones that deserve to be. Forget all the rest.
