why do you want socialism in the us or ireland? socialism has run its gambit. its dead.
Capitalism has run its gambit. We saw in 2008 what will only happen again until every citizen who has made gains in the past century lose them!
lose to what the state : problem is then if you have a race biased government like ours ethnic groups will starve and die out. lose to other people then there is no ambition no will to work if you just take from the rich and give to the poor the poor is not looking for opportunities only where his next hand out will becoming from
A true socialist nation knows no ethnicity. Not true, a socialist government is a tool for the people to progressively become "socialism". There will still be a bit of "class" but the distorted income gap between the richest and poorest will lessen.
We have the MEANS and TECHNOLOGY and PEOPLE to give everyone a true chance and not only progress civilization but only then can we know which people truly are "greater" and not so-called great because of their privileged social class or inheritance.
We will educate the people, which will empower the people. They will have the option to be whatever they wish to be, there will be many specialized schools. People's lives will have meaning, purpose, and fulfillment by only having to work several hours a week instead of 60 hours.
If you only knew what the top thinks of you and what scraps we get our whole lives while these people don't realize that without us they couldn't be so wealthy.
I once lived with a family, there was one mother and three daughters living at home. The mother worked 2 jobs and one of the daughters was old enough to have a jobs too. They still lived under poverty and struggled to eat everyday despite being on a state-funded food stamp program. They were the nicest and most hard-working people I ever met and even though they couldn't eat everyday they still offered me what little food they had. The fact people like these starve while one person (one freaking person) can be grossly excessively gluttonous daily is what is sick about our capitalist system and I know there are even worse cases. Drug violence, paramilitaries, private militaries, corporate profits, cut-throat business deals, the very fact that the gap between rich and poor is GROWING is reason to be concerned enough.
Oh and the fact that exponentially growing population and mass production combined with mass consumerism will one day deplete the Earth of its natural resources.
for the first time in my life i recommend someone to do some drugs:too much info and i'm working on our financial report so bit busy
Lol thanks Krakken, I've taken your advice and had some white widow 🙂
government run businesses and projects just have too much red tape. if you take away the entrepreneur it means all businesses have to be run by governments. not very manager will carry your ideals and concepts of "work" therefore in all likelihood your family will work more for less and will be even worse off furthermore if any of the woman in your example had a talent she could bring towards a successful business in all likelihood with everything provided by the state you will only in capitalism have the right circumstances for her to lift herself out of your situation.
My favorite is when people proclaim to be Christian but their values are nearly the exact opposite of what Jesus preached.
Mt. 19:20ff. The young man said to Him, "All these commands I have kept; what am I still lacking?" Jesus said to him, "If you wish to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me."
Prov. 29:7. The righteous is concerned for the rights of the poor; the wicked does not understand such concern.
Mt. 6:24. "No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will hold to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and Money."
Acts 2:44. All those who had believed were together, and had all things in common; and they began to sell their property and possessions, and share them with all, as anyone might have need.
Mike, it pains me to say this, but you're right.
Capitalism has failed.
Much the way communism/socialism has failed,
It's time for a benevolent dictatorship.

Capitalism is failing indeed. Socialism however fails when it falls into the hands of greedy humans. Much like all ideas, it starts beautiful (such as religion does too), but then in the wrong hands becomes nothing as it was intended to be.
Socialist nations failed only due to the Cold War. It wasn't a battle between ideologies at all. It was a battle between nations, ambitions, finances, militaries, ect. The US isn't a true free capitalist country, and once Stalin took over, the Soviet Union never stood a chance to become a true socialist nation. No surprise, as governments have always lied and used ideologies to blind their citizens into sacrificing themselves.
Personally I see that capitalism will lead to socialism. This is inevitable. More rules set in place to prevent corporations from cheating the system, combined with future population control requirements and resource restrictions are pretty much going to lead to a re-emergence of socialism, whether it's simply called a Social Democracy instead doesn't matter, but is most likely going to be. (as the US people still think negatively of socialism due to the aftermath of the red scare)
I then believe this socialist world will pave the way for a hybrid government never seen or else anarchism. Socialism will help mankind become socially mature enough to handle more responsibility with lesser limitations of the government. It will help educate the masses more effectively, leading mankind to move on from socialism and on to perhaps our final government, if not anarchism, atleast more libertarian than even a democracy today. This would be generations from now of course.
I can't tell where Socialism would lead mankind for sure, but I am positive we are becoming a more socialist nation (the US) and a more socialist world in general, and capitalism will fail due to its own greed based infrastructure, allowing the re-emergence of Socialism, without an opposing ideology like during the Cold War.
I love Christian Socialism.
