Day 1,988, 12:56 Published in Canada Canada by Shoi12

So, how has the week passed in the New World? Who has made progress? Who has been dealt the scent of defeat? Find out in this week's edition of Around the World!

MAJOR WARS

North America

Viva la Canada
[note: Canada has secured three regions (Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, and Nunavut), but has no active front with Spain]

South America

Before

After

The War for South South America

Belligerents: Argentina, Bolivia, Uruguay vs. Chile, Brazil, Paraguay
Results: After a long and tedious battle, the Chileans have regained control of the region. With Brazilians continuing to hold down Uruguay, all three nations from CUA are wiped. Though Spain was quickly disposed of by the Argies, the Chileans have been far more difficult to handle. Despite Argentina’s massive babyboom, they have been unable to regain their territories from Chilean control. Bolivia is currently threatening to regain a region and return to the map, but as usual, it’s a fully uphill battle for CUA. Indeed, EDEN’s presence in South America has been snuffed out by CoT.

Winner (this week): Chile, Brazil, Paraguay
Winner (campaign): Chile, Brazil, Paraguay (devastating)

The Colombia Revolution

Belligerents: Colombia vs. Mexico
Results: Portugal’s failed attack on Mexico and subsequent wipe posed frustration for them, but Colombia sure benefitted from the squandered campaign. The Mexicans used a Colombian RW to block a parallel attack by China in the region of Pacifica, giving the Colombians a region of their own once more. And Colombia’s quickly taken advantage of their opportunity, taking three of the four Mexican-controlled Colombian regions back from the occupier. Mexico has now returned their focus to the Colombians, declaring NE on their colony. Can Colombia hold on? Or will Mexico restore its empire?

Winner (this week): Colombia
Winner (campaign): Colombia

Europe

Before

After

The Waffle-Fries War

Belligerents: France vs. Belgium
Results: It’s basically over. France and Belgium, amidst pressure by Poland to restore their agreement, have ceased hostilities. It’s unclear which side would have prevailed, as France is the more powerful nation but Belgium has more support from idle allies, but that’s semantics now. The borders have been restored and France has since declared war on Poland to relinquish its regions not agreed to in their deal. It seems as if the fighting will calm down at long last. And all they wanted were the other’s delicious grub!

Winner (campaign): DRAW

The Poorly Navigated War for the Falklands

Belligerents: Ireland vs. United Kingdom
Results: Without the Argentinians to fight alongside them, Ireland has been absolutely overmatched by their neighboring TWO forces, decimated by their stronger foe. Ireland’s been fighting as hard as they can, but a noble effort cannot match up to a more powerful adversary. The Irish are now at the edge of a wipe, unable to even sneak regions back with RWs. CUA as a whole is struggling, and the mismatch between the United Kingdom and Argentina didn’t last long enough. Ireland may have to accept its fate. Barring a major surprise, they have lost the war.

Winner (this week): United Kingdom (devastating)
Winner (campaign): United Kingdom

The Scandinavian Scuffle

Before

After

Belligerents: Finland, Norway, Sweden vs. Lithuania, Estonia, Germark, Latvia
Results: The belligerent nations aren’t the important thing here, but let’s start with them. Sweden and Finland have both been making steady gains, as Estonia has been kicked off the peninsula and back across the Gulf of Finland to their homeland, while both Swedes and Finns focus on ridding Lithuanians from Swedish territory. Sweden has successfully taken back its southern regions, while Finland has all its regions back. However, Sweden has curiously attacked Russia, and Russia has subsequently begun cutting off Sweden in Svealand. Whose side is Russia on, Sweden’s or Lithuania’s?

Winner (this week): Finland, Norway, Sweden
Winner (campaign): Lithuania, Estonia, Germark, Latvia

Balkans/Asia

Balkan Liberation

Before

After

Belligerents: Croatia, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Israel vs. Serbia
Results: EDEN actually won. Don’t believe me? Despite the recent string of departures, EDEN still exists, and has many of their powerful nations in Asia, both natural, like China, and through occupation, such as Croatia. Well, chalk one more up for EDEN, as Bosnia has joined the India fiesta. While Albania was unable to escape in time and Israel did not successfully kick Serbia completely out, and was subsequently reoccupied, EDEN managed to secure congress for one of its smallest, previously permawiped members. Serbia retains control of the Balkans, but it’s a victory for EDEN.

Winner (campaign): Croatia, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Israel (minor)

The War for Macedonia

Belligerents: Greece vs. FYROM
Results: Greece is completely out of Egypt. However, Greece has returned to its homeland in full force, as the Greeks conquered FYROM’s three home regions with ease. Greece, Bulgaria, and FYROM have all seemingly settled into their own little niche, as though the Greeks and Bulgarians border once more there have been no hostilities. In the transition period as EDEN seems to be ready to keel over, the Greeks are seemingly playing very conservatively and smartly so, all of a sudden. All three nations seem satisfied, as the nations may see peace for the first time in a long time.

Winner (campaign): DRAW

The TWO-CoT Skirmish

Belligerents: Bulgaria vs. Romania
Results: The first war between Bulgaria and Romania? Not by a long shot. But the first war between CoT and TWO nations? That’s a definite yes. Russia being pro-CoT at the time is one thing, but this is pure war between two alliances that used to be united under a singular hatred of EDEN. Now, TWO has welcomed an EDEN nation into their warm embrace, and their acceptance may be imminent. What does that mean for the war, though? Bulgaria had managed to cut deeply into Romanian territory, but the Romanians have fought back, stabilizing the tense border between the two nations. The war rages on.

Winner (this week): DRAW
Winner (campaign): DRAW

The Iranian Freedom War

Belligerents: Iran vs. FYROM
Results: Iran continues to chip away at FYROM’s once lockdown control of the nation’s regions and resources. Iran has now fully liberated the northern edge of their country, and keeps pounding away at the tight grip FYROM holds. Sure, FYROM has had focuses elsewhere, as they have had their campaigns holding down their Saudi regions and fighting Greece in the Balkans. If FYROM decides to wage an assault on Iran again, it may be swift wipe for the Iranians. Seeing as FYROM now has a relatively secure base in Saudi Arabia, they will be no easy enemy to get rid of. But Iran will enjoy the free shots they can get.

Winner (this week): Iran (minor)
Winner (campaign): Macedonia

The Indian Cluster

Start

Belligerents: Pakistan vs. India, Belarus
Results: Honestly, never had Pakistan as a warring nation before. Like, never. But Pakistan’s come out of a monthslong retirement to airstrike India, seizing three regions from the nation it once bordered. The initial airstrike went well, with China giving a hand for their new friend and India having few supporters. Belarus, one of India’s only links, attempted to help free the nation, airstriking as well to take out Pakistan. But the Pakistanis held onto their regions, shooting down the airstrike, the first failed airstrike in history (unless you count Romania’s failed airstrike, when they ran out of regions). However, India has begun to fight back, taking one of its regions. This will be a very entertaining battle.

Winner (this week): Pakistan
Winner (campaign): Pakistan

Oceania

The War Down Under

Start

Belligerents: Australia vs. New Zealand
Results: Well, I promised to cover this if Australia got any more regions back, didn’t I? The Aussies took advantage of Indonesia’s lack of multitasking skills, taking Southern Australia from their occupiers. On top of Tasmania, which has regularly swapped hands from Australia and New Zealand, Australia is doing better than it has in recent memory. However, that’s still not good enough. New Zealand, as per usual, has declared war on the Aussies, pushing to take Tasmania again. Australia’s NaN alliance has done well to give them the extra edge to retake Tasmania, but it’s been a struggle for them to hold onto it. They need to hold onto regions to win.

Winner (this week): New Zealand (minor)
Winner (campaign): New Zealand (minor)
