Around the World #11; What the Hell, Serbia?

Day 1,721, 07:21 Published in Canada Canada by Shoi12

So, how has the week passed in the New World? Who has made progress? Who has been dealt the scent of defeat? Find out in this week's edition of Around the World!

Introducing some extra depth to the system! The modifiers 'minor' and 'devastating' will be used to signal various levels of victory for the winners of each front for the week when appropriate.

MAJOR WARS

War of American Unification
Before

After

Belligerents: Canada vs. USA
Results: The battling has died down, hasn't it? Despite a botched peace deal (yet another botched deal), the war seems to be all but over, regardless of what the game says. Therefore, unless another controversy happens (not an impossibility), this feud will soon end. But all things considered, a Canada whose CP has gone missing and an America with half its people unwilling to attack its bro has ended up causing extremely interesting battles. America has auto-attacked, and almost every time has won, only to allow the province to revolt back again. The war is almost over, and no side will have been victorious.

Breakdown of the Serbian Empire
Before

After

Belligerents: Croatia, Greece, Italy, Albania, Bosnia vs. Serbia, Montenegro, FYROM, Slovenia
Results: Tell me why, ain't nothing but a heartache. Tell me why, ain't nothing but a mi-...So, how about that Serbia? Hehe. It seemed disastrous for the Serbs at first, with three nations taunting their sovereignty and growing power at their expense. But give the Serbs some credit. Even without access to most of Croatia, the Serbs fought back, capturing key provinces in Bosnia and Croatia, and at the end of the day, the Yugoslavian Empire had been reformed, much to the chagrin to EDEN supporters. This has resulted in the defeat of the Bosnians, the exile of the Croatians, and an anti-EDEN Balkans once again. Better luck next time, my Bosnian friends!

Footnote: The result of the war has led to a quick war between Croatia and Poland, FYROM, and Slovenia in order to liberate Croatian Switzerland and Austria. The war appears to be over very soon in favor of the Polish-led forces, and frankly, I'm too lazy to cover a war for just one week.

Winner (campaign): Serbia, Montenegro, FYROM, Slovenia (devastating)

Ukrainian War of Belligerence
Before

After

Belligerents: Russia, Moldova, Bulgaria vs. Ukraine
Results: I honestly can't tell how awful this was for the Ukrainians. Being attacked on three fronts is already hilariously idiotic, but there is further room for concern. While it's true that Bulgaria thought to use their troops in Turkey instead of holding down Ukraine and gave back the provinces relatively quickly, Russia shows no signs of letting go, demonstrating their ridiculous might on the Ukrainian attempts to revolt, making a (s)laughterfest out of each move. Furthermore, though Moldova lost its decent holdings as well, they have restarted another battle after the brief cease fire, although it seems as though Ukraine will have much better this time. So honestly, I have no freaking clue how bad this is for Ukraine, or if it will end up being nothing more than a swap of lands from north Ukraine to Moldova.

Winner (this week): Ukraine
Winner (campaign): Russia, Moldova

The Alphabet War
Before

After

Belligerents: Finland, Russia vs. Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania
Results: Progress is progress, slow and steady wins the race, be the tortoise and not the hare (hare yukai), whatever you wanna say, the point is, Finland made gains, but not much. In what was definitely the most interesting war in terms of balance (hell it's been going on for months), the Finns are slightly stronger than their Estonian rivals down south, but just barely. And Latvia tossing an extra front whenever the Estonians are threatened doesn't help their cause. Although Lithuania is occupied battling Russia, the front is a stalemate, neither side even coming close to a capture (this isn't a mock war, right? RIGHT??!). This war is tense, and I suggest grabbing some popcorn, because this isn't going anywhere fast.

Winner (this week): Finland, Russia (minor)
Winner (campaign): Finland, Russia

Romanian War of Unification
Before

After

Belligerents: Romania vs. Hungary, Serbia
Results: Congratulations, this war has been upgraded to a major war, but not for reasons that would make the Romanians want to celebrate. The war was a cautious stalemate merely 1v1, but with Serbia's intervention, the tides have turned. Hungary had already made a few minor gains before Serbia, but after the empire's participation, Romania started getting partitioned like a tasty cheesecake, ceding Oltenia to Serbia and Banat to Hungary for most of the week before finally retaking Banat late in the week. Romania cannot and will not win this war alone. The question is, who in the world could possibly help?

Winner (this week): Hungary, Serbia
Winner (campaign): Hungary, Serbia

The Battle of Oceania?

MINOR WARS

Portuguese Resurgence
Before

After

Belligerents: Portugal vs. Spain
Results: Portugal and Spain have been going back and forth for many moons and suns, but recently Spain has had the slight edge, and the trend continued, with Portuguese Centro falling to the Spanish assault, the latest in a series of disappointing campaigns. With only two provinces left, the Portuguese will need to look into their magic hat and pull out another miracle in order to keep Congress this month.
