Argentinan Airstrike - Rapid Reaction

Day 1,959, 21:46 Published in USA USA by Derphoof

Argentina you're doing it wrong. You don't need an airstrike to get the Falkland Islands. - Shoi12

As I’m sure everyone knows, Argentina is going to airstrike the UK. Already articles have hit the media in both nations reacting to the news. In Argentina, the CP wrote an article announcing his airstike and how he felt in doing so. He states, “At that time, four years ago, while still a small eNation with no chance of doing so, everyone spoke of how Argentina would, one day, attack England in eRepublik.... Argentine players of each generation always spoke of the day that Argentina would attack England in eRepublik.”

For those of you who do not know, Argentina and the United Kingdom have long held territorial disputes over the Falkland Islands (known as the Malvinas in Argentina). Since 1833, the Falkland Islands have been under the control of the United Kingdom. Meanwhile, Argentina has always claimed the Falklands to fall into its territorial jurisdiction. Following political upheaval and the regime changes of the military governments (juntas), the Argentinian government decided to invade, believing that the British would likely not respond with military force.

They were terribly mistaken.

The British would send their military to regain control of the islands. After a bloody 2 month war, the British would prevail and grant British citizenship to all islanders. Since then, the islands have been a source of diplomatic tension. Most Latin American countries support Argentine claims over the island, but according to the 2009 constitution of the islands, they have the right to self determination. However, the Argentine government obviously sees the law as invalid due to its claim over the island. Even so, contemporary islanders prefer to remain a part of the United Kingdom. Recently they held a referendum of the islanders in which 99.8% of islanders (1513-3) voted to remain a part of the UK. That was with 92% turnout.

April 2nd is the 31st anniversary of the beginning of the Falkland Wars.

Now after that simplified crash-course in the Falkland Islands dispute, you understand why this is an emotional ordeal for the Argentinians. As Talon Karrde said “This act of aggression is being enacted by them in an effort to increase their population, by playing on real life hatred due to our ownership of the Falkland Islands.” So lets move on to the airstrike in general.

Argentina is a pro-EDEN nation in the brotherhood of CUA (plus Ireland). Therefore, they have 3 de facto supporters in this war: Colombia, Uruguay, and Ireland. They will also have Asgard backing them, per HQ decision. Combined, they create a fairly powerful force. However, EDEN is largely engaged in other conflicts within their alliance and support from them will be shaky. They will likely make find support in Pro-EDEN MU’s, and friendly nations willing to help their ally outside of EDEN. There will be a mixed coalition from across the globe in their battle.

The United Kingdom is a member of TWO and has an extremely powerful coalition that can back them up. Currently, CoTWO is in possession of every gold mine and will be working to secure them as well as they can. Poland and Serbia are involved in their own conflicts, but the other nations are free. Their damage obviously dwarfs that of Argentina’s allies, and that is obviously the deciding factor. Hungary and Spain are completely free of conflict and their damage can be easily directed to a needed battle.

If Hungary, Spain and the UK direct all damage to the battle, then they will post around 5.1 Billion in influence.

If all of CUA and Asgard directs damage to the battle, that will add up to about 4 Billion in damage.

CUA will obviously need a lot of EDEN help to overcome that deficit, even with Asgard behind them. Plus, Chile is currently at war with Argentina. Because of this, as they hold initiative, they can start a battle in order to drain Argentine damage. Even worse for Argentina is that if the UK is in dire need of support, Serbia could pitch in some damage. Although they are at war with Turkey, they do not need to win the battle. They can afford a loss. However, they may choose to help Poland in their struggle to secure the gold mine.

Plus, CoT nations could also come to help the UK, if they so choose.

After this quick analysis, depending on the support given by TWO, it stands to reason that unless various EDEN nations can come to the assistance of Argentina, the airstrike will likely fail.
