Are Political Takeovers A Necessary Evil?
Praetorian Tribunate
A strange question you might say. Well, consider this. An attempted take over of eCanada resulted in unity of unprecedented levels, and fortified the citizens against the foreign political invasion. The communication between eCanadians resulted in stronger ties with their communities, and a resolve to remain independent and unscathed. If anything were to be attempted now against the nation of eCanada, the leading citizens have plans and experience to help us through that potential disaster. You could add trust to my list of resulting attributes.
In eGermany however, the results were not so upbeat. eGermany now is being economically raped and pillaged. Their people are unable to work, promote business, or act on their political beliefs. The result is a strangled nation. A broken nation. A desperate nation. Even now, plans are being made for the presidential elections. Plans for takeovers, and plans to stop them. What was once a foreign concept is now a common occurrence. Some believe that the administration should step in. A few say that we are almost at a turning point with citizenship in eRepublik.
However, I wonder, have political takeovers imbedded themselves into the fabric of eRepublik? They have raised a new breed of politician, the ones who are bred for foreign reign, and those that play on the events that devastate many in our world. Our citizens have found new causes to rally behind, and our businessmen both profit and fund opportunities that takeovers afford them. Even with a citizenship modification, will takeovers disappear?

theyre so common now, that people assume that its the "norm". Which is incorrect because the "norm" should be and is whatever the admins want it to be. And with the all be it "tardy" development of the citizenship engine, it is clear that the admins do not wish there to be takeovers
No.
Not a necessary evil, just an easy one. Until citizenship is implemented, it is just waaaayyyy too simple to do political takeovers...unrealistically easy.
PTO's are the biggest wildcard in eRep (well, except for those goldbugs). If it were not for the GBs and the PTOs eRep would be locked in battles equivalent to the trench warfare of WWI. It would take forever to gain ground and take as long to foil an oppressor. Romania demonstrated that they can pull back from the normal rules of combat (especially when the rules mean nothing) and fight the enemy in a guerilla-fashion.
That might just sound sensational or as if eRep is losing cohesion as a social simulator. The fact is, PTOs make the political climate exciting, though unpredictable and chaotic. Do we want secure borders that rarely change or some action? The downside is that we all build a society with programs and ministries that could be rendered useless.
Tell ya what, I used to put ants in a bottle when I was a kid. It was fun at first but when it got boring I would shake it up or throw in something strange to get them agitated and fighting. That sorta seems what the Admins are doing. *shake shake - PTO!*
PTOs, IMHO, simply add another level of excitement to the game. When one country gets to big, this can be the only way to regain ground (other than clones and counterfeit gold). More exciting than a boring stalemate.
did the romanian gained much gold after the PTO?
