Apology

Day 2,114, 14:47 Published in Belgium USA by MaryamQ

Dear friends and citizens of eBelgium,

I am writing to you today to right a wrong for which I feel in part responsible and to apologize for any harm I have caused by the actions I have taken in the last 24 hours.

Many of you have seen, in the press, in shouts, and to a lesser degree on the forum, a great deal of upset over actions by our government and several party leaders. The first such action was the creation of Bank Managers by our current CP, JdlF. This was done quickly and with very little explanation, to the natural consternation of citizens who thought it was undemocratic and even dishonest. Although the money is held in trust by several older eBelgians, and it will be available at need for the use of our military and citizen programs, it is not surprising that some people wonder what reason there could be for such a radical change in the way our national treasury is handled.

Yesterday, as I was preparing to sleep for a little while before starting my RL work and after a long day of trying to keep up with things that needed doing for eBelgium and CoT, I started receiving a series of PMs from G.W.JUNIOR. In these PMs, he claimed to have proof that his major opponent in the CP elections, Maresal Lengas, was a PTOer and multilord. This included some links and screen shots with allegations that Maresal was actually a player by the name of Romansul who had been involved in PTO actions in Ireland, South Korea and possibly Egypt in the past. After a very brief sleep, I began to wade through the information, and although I didn’t find any direct proof, I did find one piece of evidence that I found very disturbing, a profile of a permanently banned citizen with a name I had good reason to believe did belong to Maresal. G.W. also alleged that he had shown this information to JdlF, and that the institution of bank managers was directly linked to it. He also threatened to publish the information he had because all of the top 5 parties other than HOPE were supporting Maresal.

I will admit I was rather unnerved by this information. Not wanting to make a major mistake, I shared what I knew with a select group of known and trusted eBelgians, including JdlF, El1teBE, Cotarius, Tony Clifford, Jofroi and Olv007, asking for their advice. It was mentioned in this shared PM that there might also be a link to The Group, Romanians who had been in eBelgium at the end of eUNL. Based on the discussion there, and other information he had received, El1teBE made the decision to change RB’s endorsement to Director9, the runner-up in the RB poll and a candidate who was trusted by all of us.

I subsequently found that similar allegations had been sent to a number of other prominent eBelgians, many of whom were also extremely concerned about them. As the day wore on, however, I found that not everyone who had received the accusations, links and screen shots believed them. Some were simply loyal to Maresal, and some felt that the proofs were not strong enough. In order to make a better judgment about them, I did some more investigating. Maresal willingly introduced me to people who knew him in Romania, in particular, the commander of his MU there and another friend who had known him for years. Both confirmed that he was not Romansul, who belonged to a rival MU and lived in another town. They also said they did not believe there was any link between Maresal and Wandutza, who was instead linked to another member of a rival MU, the Cruciatii. The link with the previously banned character was explained by the commander, who had personal knowledge that this involved babyssitting an account for another player – a mistake that has been made by more than one decent player who gave into an impulse to help a friend and subsequently got banned, then started again with a different identity. Allegations that Maresal had previously played as O’Riley were also easy to explain. As shown by his introduction on the eBelgian forum, found here, he was open about who he was, where he came from, and what he hoped to do, and the name change came after he entered eBelgium and was known to many of our citizens.

It has been hard for me to know what to do about this information and misinformation that has been turned up over the last day before elections; however, having become convinced that Maresal is indeed innocent of the charges laid against him by the opposition, I felt it was my duty to help clear his name. I sincerely apologize for any harm that has been done and any rumors that have been spread as I tried to sort things out for myself. There are others who have also been working through this. Shortly before I started to write this, El1teBE also changed his mind and apologized to Maresal.

Citizens, I regret to say I find the kind of smear tactics that have been employed by G.W.JUNIOR to be totally repugnant. It distresses me that a beloved eBelgian like Elynea has left the country and the good work she was doing because of her disgust with this nasty way of playing. We and others who have looked at the evidence find the claims against Maresal to be completely untrue.

In summary, I want to apologize to Maresal Lengas for any doubts I might have harbored about his intentions in eBelgium. I support his candidacy for CP this month, and hope all honest citizens will examine the issues and vote their consciences for Maresal.

I want to add that this does not in any way reflect on Director9, a good friend of mine who did nothing to promote this mockery of justice but was ready to step in and lead the country if it was needed. I thank him for his willingness to do what was best for eBe.

Sincerely,
MaryamQ
