Another five months on the job - autumn of eFinland

Day 2,604, 02:47 Published in Finland Finland by TheJuliusCaesar

These memoirs of past months are almost a tradition already. I mean, after all this is the second one. After the spring’s stint I wanted a well earned break - the summer was coming and so was my annual vacation. The summer of mine was refreshing, thanks for asking. The first memoir concentrated on our work in Asgard HQ during December 2013 – April 2014. This sequel – the article you’re reading right now - describes the foreign political steps made by Finland during the autumn of 2014. It is an end of a cycle in its way - a tad over a year ago I started my climb towards the very top positions of Finland. Yet it is in no way the end - I ain’t going anywhere. Sorry for that. I plan to keep on doing this, after another break, of course. I had a pleasure of working with Chrayr during these months. She's perhaps the most active and promising figure of Finland in 2014, remember the name.

After a lazy summer it was time to get back on track - just that there was no track to get back on. Inactive-ish presidents of summer in nearly every Asgard member country resulted in deteriorating activity and coordination. In the end we even scarcely talked with each other, leave alone coordination. After numerous fruitless efforts by different characters all over Fennoscandia to revive the HQ, it was clear that Finland desired a change.

After the American expulsion from the Sirius alliance, they had forged stronger relations with Mother Russia – ultimately leading to the birth of Pacifica later during summer. In spite of the US being on different side with Finland during post-TWO era, mutual relations of our nations were neutral at worst. Shifting foreign political situation allowed the old friends to warm their relations to a level last witnessed in TEDEN era. Finland signed a mutual protection pact with the US in early August.

Finland notified other Asgard nations about our desire to look for new options rather clearly during the early months of autumn. The idea of this was to give valuable time for Sweden and Norway to think for their possibilities and options with Asgard when Finland wouldn't be part of it anymore. Due the lack of proper communication and cooperation, however, our intentions were not quite understood. Our decision to look for other options while still being a member of Asgard raised a somewhat heated discussion among all member nations. Even though it was Sweden making the first public (with public, I mean first time public for congresses and citizens. There had been discussions within governments of all member countries.) move back in early September, the fact that someone was seeking something new caused bad blood - mainly towards Finland.

As I've stated so many times earlier, the whole 'escalation' started and prevailed due insufficient communication by every counterpart. The leaving process seriously damaged Finland's relations with especially Norway. For this I am still saddened and deeply sorry for our part. However, in the end we (hopefully) managed to depart without burning any bridges – we did and still desire to be friends with both Sweden and Norway. Finland left Asgard in the end of October.

The move sparkled a November of nonalignment for Finland. We had got an unofficial invitation to join Pacifica earlier in the autumn, but the Finnish congress desired to not jump from an alliance to another within mere days of leaving the prior one. During November, Finland regularly engaged into talks with Pacifica, as well as with Asteria in greatly lesser extent. Finnish administration also contacted Poland, the main funder and supporter of our enemy Estonia, in means of general relation-enhancing and discussion of options in front of both nations. We were unable to agree on nothing concrete; however towards the end of the month, Finland signed MPP’s with Latvia and freshly joined Taiwan, both Pacifica. Signing a mutual protection pact with Latvia was a significant and crucial step for Finland, as Latvia had formerly been an enemy of Finland. We even had fought a prompt war against the southern neighbor of Estonia last year.

After the steps made in late autumn, the official joining process to Pacifica was fairly easy and painless. In overall it took only a week or so. The first month in here has been pleasant. We’ve already seen an invasion to the Iberian Peninsula, as well as experienced some setbacks lately in our neighborhood. May the starting year of the Sheep be harmonious, as it has been foreseen.

It has been a fruitful, yet challenging autumn for Finland. I’m happy for what we gained, yet sad for what we lost. Again it’s my time to take a breath. I’ve had an extremely enjoyable 2014, hope you did too.

Yours,
- Caesar
