I pull into the parking lot and lo and behold, there's someone double-parked in my space. License plate reads DC_FTW. Note to self, get spraypaint tonight.

So I find a space to park in the public lot, which couldn't have been any farther away if I tried. I make it maybe a quarter of the way to the building when I realize that I forgot my box. Dammit.

Back to the car, get box, get to my office. Only 10 minutes late ._.

Cerb's on a conference call, he might as well get the phone surgically implanted to his ear, but that would require in-patient surgery and he's got too many calls to make to do it. THAT was an interesting convo last week.

I get to my desk without being noticed, or so I thought...

"You're fired, System!," Bradley says as he comes around the corner as I open the first file, "Lemmy can do your job! Pack up and get out!"

Lemmy_09, the new Deputy Ambassador to Lolwutistan, been in the game about a week. Doubt it. I'd almost want to stick around to see this failboat do a barrel roll, that is if I wasn't fired.

So I get my stuff together and dump it in the box. Barely fits, and I've already had to reinforce two corners with government-issue packing tape. Maybe I should tell Brad that before I leave...

"Where's the report System?" Brad says as he whips around the corner in his usual fashion.

"Woah, I thought I was fired?"

"You WILL BE if that report isn't on my desk by the end of the day! And that's a promise!" He says as he turns to pop into the next office down the hall.

._.

So I unpack my stuff, doesn't take long since I left a bit in the box to take home with me. Government-issue pens are the best, let me tell you.

I work through lunch trying to get this report finished, and I finally am able to get the final copy printed and collated near the end of the day. Scrambling to get out of here during daylight hours, I race from the copy machine down the hall, papers in hand to my office. Where I run straight into Bradley.

Papers fly everywhere, I hit the ground, and he bangs his knee on my desk. Well, it's more like a sheet of plywood on sawhorses. I grumble quietly and set upon the task of reordering the sheets of the report. It would be a lot easier if Cerb let us put page numbers on them. Stupid operational security...

&quot😉ammit System, you're fired!" he says, nursing that knee a little too much for believability.

"Yeah, whatever."

"HEY! Don't take that tone with me, or you'll be the next one on the chopping block!" he says as he steps over me and hangs a right, still favoring his bum knee.

I spend the next half hour or so reorganizing the report, and reprinting the three pages that were torn. I hear a knock on the door...

"Yes, I know I'm fired,"

"Huh, what?" says an unfamiliar voice. I spin around to see a new guy in a nice three-piece.

"I'm Indrae, I just transferred from CTF. I'm your new Deputy," he says confidently. At this point I don't know if I should tell him to run for his life, or to introduce himself to Bradley, hehe.

"Hey, I'm System, and I'm headed out for the day, nice to meet you. We'll get you up to speed tomorrow. Hopefully," I say as I round the corner to Brad's office. Dropped the report, hit the stairs to the next floor down, and waited for the elevator to arrive.

Halfway across the lobby I realize I forgot my box...
