Sony Reveals More Details On Smartphone App for PlayStation 4

During TGS in September, Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhel Yoshida teased a new smartphone app related to the PlayStation 4, but didn't elaborate on it too much at that time so as to take away focus from the Vita TV and cost-reduced Vita. Now, he's gone ahead and let out more info on the app ahead of its release later this year with the PlayStation 4.

The PlayStation App will allow for the following capabilities across smartphone platforms:

Send and receive text/voice messages to friends, who can receive them on either the app or the PS4 itself.
Receive gaming invitations from a friend on the PS4 to the app.
Buy a game on the app and have it start downloading automatically to the PS4.
Watch recorded or live streaming gameplay from a friend's PS4 console.
Additional "second screen" functionality for games open to all developers

With smartphones, tablets and game consoles offering more opportunities to developers for new gaming features and functionality across platforms, the PlayStation App seems pretty handy to have whether or not you'll take full advantage of all the functionality it initially has to offer. Would you use the app if you're buying a PS4?

"Hometown Story" Tells Its Tale in North America on October 22

It won't be long before you can try out the latest game from Harvest Moon creator Yasuhiro Wada. Natsume set his new title, Hometown Story, for release on Nintendo 3DS in North America on October 22.

Like Harvest Moon, Hometown Story has a laid back air to it, focusing on life simulation that has you taking over your grandmother's shop after she passes away. With the assistance of the magical sprite Pochica, players will be able to interact with folks around town, make the occasional wish to increase the happiness of yourself or others, and even fall in love and get married.

Pokémon designer Atsuko Nishida provides the art, while famed Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu handles the music. As previously reported, Rising Star Games is handling Hometown Story's European distribution.
