Nintendo Wii Production is Coming to an End

Nintendo Wii hit stores back in late 2006, and went on to leave a deep imprint on the world of gaming. The console pushed 100 million units worldwide since its debut, and now it's time for it to bow out gracefully.

As translated over at Kotaku, Nintendo's Japanese page posted the image below, announcing that "Manufacturing is scheduled to end soon."

A follow-up with Nintendo confirmed that production on Wii consoles is ending soon. Speaking with AFP, a Nintendo spokesperson said, "Our new generation Wii U console is already on the market and allows users to play software originally designed for the Wii … So this is part of the transition of our products to new models."

Japan's Newest Vending Machine Delivers Mobile Apps

Google is testing out its Google Play machine in a place well known for its unique vending machines. Google Japan is putting three machines around Shibuya where users can hook up their Android mobile device and download an app of their choice from the machine's touchscreen menu. The machines come loaded with 18 titles, some free, and others pay-to-download.

If you don't have your own Android phone, the machine comes with a Nexus 4 to play on, but you have to return it when you're done. Employees will be stationed to make sure customers' questions are answered. Time is limited though and the machines will only be in place for ten days.

High tech and strange vending machines are a common occurrence in Japan. Three men were arrested in 2008 for trying to make off with a Dragon Ball figure vending machine. Azone International Co. Ltd unveiled a vending machine specifically for doll underwear, just in case all of your Madoka doll's underwear is in the wash.

Japanese company Meiji launched a series of talking Anpanman drink vending machines that say phrases like "How is everyone doing?," "I am Anpanman!" and "Thank you! Please come and see me again!"
