"Avengers" Anime Planned for 2014

Next spring, Japan will be getting its own localized take on The Avengers, with Toei working with Disney on the animated series and Bandai working on the merchandise. In this case, a localized interpenetration means that Marvel's superheroes are basically going to become Pokémon.

In The Avengers: Disc Wars, a technology developed to imprison digitized super villains is exploited by Loki to trap the heroes. With the help of Spider-man, a group of kids attempt to thwart this by traveling the world, searching for discs and summoning the Avengers for aid.

Lost Behind the Scenes Footage from "Ultraman" Discovered

Lost film containing 60 minutes of outtakes (aka “NG scenes”) from the original 1966-1967 Ultraman TV series was recently found at the home of a Tsuburaya Productions employee’s house, and Japan’s NHK-News was impressed enough to run a report on it!

The missing footage gives valuable insight into how special effects techniques – ahem, tokusatsu -- were created in “them old days”. Here in the 21st century, a kaiju-on-fire can be created safely from behind a computer, but back then, some poor guy in a suit would have the pleasure of being doused in actual flame!

The NHK-News report on the found footage isn’t embeddable, but you can view it via THIS LINK HERE. Please enjoy the sight of Ultraman losing his balance, monsters missing their marks, and miniature buildings refusing to break!

3rd Madoka Magica Film's Full 90-Second Trailer Posted

The animeanime.jp website debuted the full 90-second trailer for Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie -Rebellion- (Gekijō-ban Mahō Shōjo Madoka Magica Shinpen: Hangyaku no Monogatari) online on Thursday. This trailer for the brand-new third Madoka Magica film had only played in Japanese theaters until now.

The trailer begins with the proclamation: "There are people who wish for a hope, accept a curse, and continue to battle. Those are magic girls. We keep fighting."

The trailer then states, "The girls' cruel fate does not end," and teases, "What happened to the girls in the world without Madoka?" A back-and-forth between the magical girls follows:

"Can you beat me under the same conditions?"

"I won't be defeated like this."

"Are you gonna run away and shut yourself inside your own time?"

"Is this an illusion or what?"

"Using such roundabout methods…Exactly what are you trying to do?"

"That's what we will lead to...I cannot help stop sympathizing."

"Someday we will lead to The Law of Cycles."

"The only person who remembers...It should be only me..."

"You shouldn't want to know the truth, but can't stop pursuing it...Human beings...are thoroughly unreasonable."

"It's no good if you're alone, Homura-chan."

The trailer features the opening theme song "Colorful" by ClariS.

The film will play in the United States and Canada with English subtitles starting December 6. In addition, there will be a Hollywood premiere event at the Egyptian Theater on December 3, although it is now sold out. Aniplex streamed the earlier 35-second trailer with English subtitles:
