"Kamen Teacher" Live-Action Film to Follow Up Drama in 2014

The live-action take on Kamen Teacher—based on the manga by GTO's Tohru Fujisawa—isn't stopping with the now-concluded drama. A film was recently announced, and it's set to premiere in Japan on February 22, 2014.

The manga—which centers on a teacher who deals with his class's trouble students with the masked power of Kamen Teacher—ran in Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump from 2006-2007, and was followed more recently by Kamen Teacher Black.

Kis-My-Ft2's Taisuke Fujigaya plays the titular Kamen Teacher, known out of costume as Gota Araki. Other cast members include Sexy Zone's Fuma Kikuchi (Future Diary), Mikie Hara (Cutie Honey), Takumi Saito (Miles Edgeworth in Takashi Miike's Ace Attorney), and Aya Omasa (Paradise Kiss).

"Final Fantasy VII" on iOS and Android is Going to Take a Few Years

Last week we posted about Final Fantasy VI heading to smartphones, which had Square Enix director and producer Takashi Tokita saying Final Fantasy VII could follow if the rest of the Legacy series does well. Hopefully you didn't get your hopes too high, because that release is still likely years away.

The primary reason behind that wait? It all seems to come down to space, which Tokita, while talking to Shacknews, said remains a limitation.

While it's not impossible for them to develop Final Fantasy VII for mobile, Tokita said, "currently, space will be an issue. Phones won't be won't be able to contain the space it takes. It's over a gigabyte. People are probably going to have to wait a few years."

Apple currently has a 2GB limit on iOS games, and the PC release of FFVII was 3GB. Thus, Tokita reiterated, "It's definitely going to be years before we do the port."

"Anpanman" Creator Takashi Yanase Passes Away

The creator of one of the most popular children's anime in Japan is no longer with us, as Takashi Yanase, the mind behind Anpanman, has passed away at the age of 94. His passing came early this past Sunday at a Tokyo hospital as a result of heart failure.

Yanase started his career in cartooning after working at the Kochi Shimbun newspaper and the Mitsukoshi department store's publicity department. He launched the Anpanman manga series for which he is most well known in 1973. It became even more popular when the anime Soreike! Anpanman (Let's Go! Anpanman) kicked off in 1988, after which it would go on to air well over a thousand episodes and counting.

In addition to Anpanman, Yanase also worked as a musician and lyricist, and even wrote the Anpanman theme song. He also won the Shukan Asahi manga award in 1967 for Mr. Bo, and received an award at the 1970 Mainichi Film Awards for his anime film Yasashii Raion (Kind Lion).
