And then the New World blew up: The first true World War.

Day 755, 18:56 Published in USA Australia by Aeros
SUMMARY

Following a region swap with Brazil that put the Phoenix power into striking range of its fellow Sol Ally, the South African President has now proposed a declaration of war against Australia. In East Asia, American forces have landed on the shores of China and have pushed deep into the interior, striking at the Indonesian enclave of Xinjiang. This particular fight will be a critical battle for initiative between the USA and Indonesia. In Europe, Polish forces have stormed across the German border and the Czech Republic is now in the process of passing its own war declaration against Germany. In Asia Minor, Phoenix once again held off a Greek attack on the Mediterranean coast, and is now facing a double Romanian and Greek offensive on Marmara. In South America, Argentina is once more attempting to retake Peru’s High Iron. In Western Europe, British forces attempted what they assumed would be an easy assault on Flanders but instead ran smack into the US Military who sent the previously underground wall back up to the secure line using BB guns and a toy rocket.

And my thanks to Chysamere Goru, who kindly pointed out I forgot Spain's attack on Brazil to prevent an invasion of Australia. Go Spain!

SOUTH AFRICA

Some shady stuff has been going on in South Africa over the past few weeks. Fleeing the Brazilian conquest of Venezuela, the /b/tards from 4chan, 7chan and 888chan decided to set up shop in South Africa with the stated intention of “Founding an Aryan Paradise”. Needless to say, South Africa did not welcome the immigration with open arms. Instead, they curiously turned to Brazil (rather than their neighboring Sol Ally Australia) to take over the country and thus “stop the PTO”. Instead, Brazil occupied two regions, creating a common border with Australia and promptly began a vote to declare war. The President of South Africa then wrote a long explanation that basically said it was better for Sol to fight Phoenix in Australia instead of South Africa and how she had no choice. The Australian response to this move has been about a graceful as the United States’ was to the UK-Hungary region swap. Just as it seemed Australian and South African relations could not get any worse, the South African president then inexplicably proposed a vote to declare war on Australia. The President cited Australia as being a “thorn in South Africa’s side” for the primary justification of the motion to declare war. In response, senior congressmen in South Africa have staged a revolt and claim the South African President no longer represents the country, and the military has stated they will not participate in any potential attack on Australia. Many outside observers also question the viability of the South African president, with accusations claiming her account has been hacked along with the national forums. While the war declaration is being soundly rejected, South Africa may have to deal with an insane President for awhile. They had previously voted not to impeach the President 18 hours before the alleged hack/insanity became apparent.

As for Sol, they are preparing to mount a defense of Australia. It should be noted, EDEN is planning similar things. With EDEN fighting for Sol allies China and Australia, it might be time for the two Alliances to put aside their differences (however slight) and start coordinating with each other. For the first time, the goals of EDEN and Sol are closely linked, and Sol must find a way to defend Australia and China from Phoenix.

TURKEY

American anticipation of Indonesian resistance in China caused the biggest damage producer for EDEN to direct another wasted million points of damage into a pointless battle. Indonesia opted for the path of least resistance and did not fight in China, instead directing its forces to fight RED for the resistance war and otherwise support Turkey. With EDEN distracted on multiple fronts, Greece and the EMC once more declined to initiate mass tanking against the defensive wall and cycled the attack on Marmara. This highlights the power of Initiative in eRepublik, as Greece can afford to be patient. Turkey can win every battle but never be able to mount an offensive so long as Greece keeps attacking. Eventually the time will come when Phoenix finds itself stretched too thin or else EDEN can get its act together and coordinate damage better. Things are likely to get a little more crazy in this region in the coming days however, as Romania is unlikely to achieve victory in its own Marmara offensive, nor hold onto its Bulgarian regions due to the fact that they are fighting without MPP’s in this theater. Without MPP’s Romania would have to rely on allied Mobile Forces to offset damage, but with so many fronts raging in this truly global conflict EDEN Mobile Forces are at a premium right now.

CHINA

Thanks to Chinese assistance, the United States has successfully entered Asia and launched an offensive against the Indonesian enclave of Xinjiang. Unlike Fujian, Indonesia might be keen to win this battle against the United States, as Xinjiang is a fight for initiative. If Indonesia loses Xinjiang they will be permanently removed from China. If they win, they may be able to mount a counterattack against the United States and attempt to drive the Americans back, however fruitless that might be due to the US being cahoots with China through an open war. To win in Xinjiang however will require significant support of Phoenixes own mobile forces, as the USA is fighting Indonesia with MPP’s due to the Indonesian invasion of North America last summer. With Germany and Turkey under heavy assault, attempting a major defense of Xinjiang may come at a cost for Phoenix, though they may decide to risk it, if only to slow the US down. The Serbian elite forces were sighted on the battlefield 15 minutes after it started, so we can be certain there is some sort of foreign Phoenix presence in Indonesia right now, though how large it is remains undetermined.

GERMANY

Germany is the odd man out in this fight. The unfortunate thing for Phoenix in this campaign is that they are largely playing the defensive role. That means it falls on Phoenix to decide where the next EDEN blow will fall and then act on it. For Germany this is bad news, as the country is not very strategic in the grand scheme of things. At the heart of this entire campaign is an EDEN move to evict Phoenix from Asia, and Central Europe is most definitely not tied to that goal. With the US wiping out Indonesian territory in China and moving dangerously close to Heilongjiang and Karnataka, Phoenix cannot afford to commit heavily to a defense that could risk jeopardizing those regions. They also don’t want to risk Greece getting into Turkey and potentially wiping out the country, as this would open Iran up to further attacks and also distract a great deal of Phoenixes mobile forces in a potential Turkish resistance war. For Germany, this means they might very well get hung out to dry. Phoenix can do what they can, but this war is highly expansive, and as EDEN is finding out, proving very difficult to coordinate with regards to the casual citizens.

PERU

Peru was taken over by Polish troops some weeks ago in order to obtain much needed commodities. Unlike every other major power in the world, Poland possesses no High resource regions. Not one. Not even a High Grain. This has been a major drain on their economic development and was the principle source of much of their angst when many in EDEN questioned the situation in Peru. At one point Argentina and Brazil successfully managed to take over the entire country, but were promptly defeated in a vicious Resistance war that liberated three regions simultaneously. After Brazil signed the Phoenix charter, most of the protest over Poland’s control of Peru’s government died down, since it is infinitely better for a Polish proxy to have the High Iron than Phoenix. Now however, Poland is busy rolling through Germany, the USA is laying the pain on Indonesia in China, and the rest of EDEN is fighting in Turkey. Sensing opportunity where previously there was none, Argentina has restarted its invasion of Peru. It’s likely they will succeed too, as everyone is too busy to worry about an isolated enclave that can be resistance warred back later.

FINAL ANALYSIS

People like to call this either a continuation of World War 3, or World War 4. However, I would like put forward the statement that this is actually the First World War. What has been collectively known as World War 1 was really just Romania with MPP’s vs. Hungary with MPP’s. Since everyone was fighting the label stuck. Despite the claims of the war being a “World War” the fight was really only in Asia and Eastern Europe. The same could then be said for the Second World War, just in reverse. With World War 3, it could be said it was a global conflict of sorts, but again, the Fight was really only in North America, with random harassment battles being fought elsewhere and that whole incident with France and Spain (I Always preferred the title Great North American War myself). The current fighting in the eWorld right now is an order of magnitude far greater than anything that has preceded it. Even at the height of the North America war, it was principally a battle between the US with MPP’s and the US’s neighboring PEACE members. This fight has the UK attempting to wipe Belgium, Greece attempting to wipe Turkey, Brazil attempting to wipe Australia, Romania attempting to wipe Bulgaria, the USA fighting Indonesia in its own playground of East Asia, Russia declaring war on China, and oh my god what else am I missing here? We now have active wars and battles ongoing or pending on every continent, involving the vast majority of eRepubliks nations. This is what a World War really is. EDEN and Phoenix are at each other’s throats on more than half a dozen fronts and the stakes could not be higher.
