Analysis of the New Countries

Day 1,052, 11:39 Published in Canada Canada by Auk Rest
Introduction Greetings all, this is not a war review, but an analysis of what the future holds for the six new countries. These are only my opinions, and are based on speculation, so don't be surprised if they don't hold up 100%!

CYPRUS

Cyprus is located south of Turkey in the Mediterranean and west of Israel. The island itself in real life is a majority of Greeks (77😵 and Turks (17😵. The Turks are generally located in the northern part of the island and in real life have proclaimed independence from the rest of Cyprus, though only recognized by one country (Turkey, what a surprise?). Cyprus's location will probably only bring about another stepping stone for Turkey and Greece to fight each other if it becomes neutral. Due to its Greek population, Cyprus will probably join EDEN, but then again, the RL ethnicity and population of the country doesn't factor in as much on erepublik than it does in RL.

NEW ZEALAND

New Zealand is one of the most remote countries in the world, bordered by only Australia and Chile in eRepublik, unless its Aussie brothers invade or Brazil or Argentina go through Chile, it is doubtful New Zealand will be wiped off the map anytime soon. Australia is in EDEN, but so far it seems as though New Zealand is more interested in being neutral than joining up with the Aussies. If New Zealand is swayed to PHOENIX, it could theoretically divide Australia with Brazil/Argentina, itself, and Indonesia. It also creates a more direct bridge to Australia than from South Africa.

BELARUS

Ah Belarus, it is perhaps the one country that is the most straightforward to predict. Being close to Russia and Ukraine in both geography and ethnicity, it is doubtless Belarus will join PHOENIX. Belarus will serve as a gateway to let Poland and Russia fight. This country will most likely be the frontlines of Russia if Poland decides to go on the attack. I doubt Belarus will have any intention of joining EDEN. Neutrality might be a possibility, but then the country would not last to Poland/Russia.

TAIWAN

Taiwan is an island nation off the coast of China that is a RL cause of dispute amongst the Taiwanese and Chinese. China claims Taiwan is apart of China, and Taiwan claims independence. Taiwan could go any way with alliances. It could join up with China and join EDEN, it could very likely become neutral like many of the Asian countries or it could possibly become a PHOENIX enclave if dislike of China goes far enough. If it becomes PHOENIX, Taiwan could become a serious security problem for EDEN's operations in China if it is coupled with Serbia and/or Indonesia.

MONTENEGRO

Montenegro is a nation that was once apart of Serbia. It fits in the new world by Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, and FYROM. Much like Belarus, I see Montenegro joining up with PHOENIX to be with their Serbian friends. If Montenegro attracts a fairly large playerbase, Croatia would be in even deeper trouble. Croatia, geographically is in a terrible position. Slovenia to the north, Hungary to the northwest, Serbia to the east, and its only friend (which is sometimes not a friend due to PTO) Bosnia, is easily overrun by Serbia. Throw in Montenegro, and Croatia could be facing a four-five pronged assault against the country. Croatia has fought off attacks like this before, but with a new country, it could finally break down.

Macedonia

Macedonia is a country to the north of Greece, to the west of Bulgaria and to the south of Serbia. It is hard to see what will become of this country. In case you live under a rock in the middle of nowhere, there has been a very nasty debate over the admins calling the country Republic of Macedonia (FYROM), which set off rage-quit threatening Greek players claiming Macedonia is mostly Greek and the name was an insult to Greece.

Macedonia will not be welcomed in EDEN simply because of Greece, and more likely than not, Bulgaria or Serbia will want the high stone of Macedonia and attack it. Whether or not they will beat Greece to pushing the button, we will have to wait and see. Macedonia will need its playerbase scattered across eRepublik to all return for its defense. eRepublik if very popular in Macedonia in RL, so getting a baby-boom shouldn't be too hard. Population will probably be Macedonia's only hope for survival.

Conclusion

It's great to see six new countries join eRepublik. The choices of countries did surprise me somewhat, as North Africa has still not been added to the game, but overral I am happy with the admins decision of countries. We'll wait and see when these countries can attack and be attacked to see what will become of them.
