Alex Lawrence, Man or SUPER-Man?

I am asked this question a lot. And really, who's to blame? I guess myself, since I use Dr. Manhatten as my avatar and Rorschach for my newspaper. [/pet ego]

Ok, so you can see I don't take myself seriously, but what I do take seriously is my work. Here is what I have done in the past in regards to political affairs and some other little tidbits about me:

1. I served in Congress in Estonia, and helped with the formation of Estonia's political alliances (at the time toward neutrality) as well as economic policy.
2. I served as ambassador to Brazil for the UK.
3. I briefly served as an apprentice in the MoF.
4. I've served the UK by enlisting and fighting alongside the Paratroopers, participating in the defense of Kyushu among other battles.
5. I own assets upwards of 700 gold, and have considerable economic experience as a result of all the hard work it took to get that money.

But what makes you different, Alex?

My outside experience is what sets me apart from the crowd of other congressional candidates. I'm not so narrow minded and focused on just one particular issue as many of the other candidates are, but am a well rounded individual; I have considerable experience as a soldier, a politician, and an economist, which are the three driving forces behind what is needed to make an effective leader.

There are some politicians in Congress now who have never set foot outside of the UK, who have just wrapped themselves up in the status quo and never experienced the different cultures of both our friends and enemies. What we need is a fresh outlook on how to govern, and how to take the UK forward.

How do you plan to make the UK better and stronger, Alex?

Inactivity is a huge problem, if not the largest problem the United Kingdom faces, and I intend to solve this problem through increased recruiting of new players (more likelihood of gathering more active players) as well as getting in touch with the babies we have already and who will be born in the month to come. The US has undertaken an extensive campaign to recruit new players by advertising on free US MMO websites, in contests and polls as well with links to erepublik through US citizen invitation links. Not only does this contribute to revenues, but gives their country long term citizen increases, a strategy more reliable than a French-style baby boom. I shall try to mimic this policy when I enter Congress.

But what about diplomacy, warlord Alex?

I also plan to advocate for continued strong ties with our allies in PHOENIX. Not only do they have really cool avatars, but they’re also just good guys and have shown in the past their dedication to defending our common interests abroad. I am especially pleased that the Baltics have become official allies of the eUK through PHOENIX, and having been a congressman of Estonia in the past I’m happy to have both a past and present home nation be allies.



In addition, I will try to strengthen ties with regional powers as well as neutral powers that we don’t have the coziest of relations with at the moment. Ireland has leaned towards EDEN for quite a while, and I’ll try to convince them to lay off fraternizing with America so much. France has been abandoned by both major alliances, but I think France will always be an important power in Europe, and just that reason alone is impetus enough for me to attempt to strengthen relations with them. I’m also a supporter of an eventual merger with Belgium and the UNL, not only would this increase Britain’s overall fighting strength but it would protect our allies on the mainland from further attempts at invasion of their sovereignty.

What about the military?




I will also strongly encourage that as many South Westerners as possible join some branch of the military. We need more coordination and warm bodies to fill bootstraps. Not only would this increase the eUK’s damage capability (and resulting increased safety) but it would strengthen our economy. With more healthy citizens production increases, which means more goods for sale at home and more export sales as well. With increased leveling we’ll also see the private wealth of citizens increase with leveling bonuses, so there’s only good things that could come out of more men and women enlisted. And most importantly, more citizens will be introduced to the most fun part of erepublik: war. The more fun we have, the more player retention and the more dedicated players we’ll have in the future.

Domestic policy is what keeps our country going. How can you do better Alex?

I support the current tax scheme, because it protects us from foreign competitors in the manufacturing market (since we are a manufacturing based nation we don’t need anyone to manufacture anything for us) and the revenues that it does bring in are sufficient enough for our military to operate efficiently. In regards to military economy, I would support allocation of funds to upgrade current military companies to higher qualities (especially among the RM companies). By increasing our RM output we will have a larger surplus of weapons to draw upon as a result and make extra revenues off of surplus we don’t need in the future.

What makes you better than the competition, Alex?

I’ve outlined very defined policy ideas here in my manifesto. Most all of my other opponents are very vague or just support the status quo. Obviously the status quo hasn’t done much for us, so I think we need to change a few things. I log on everyday and will be an active member in Congress. I’ll try my hardest to fulfill my end of the bargain, all I need is for you all to fulfill yours: that is to vote for me and have fun 🙂 .

I’ve got my own agenda that I want to be carried out, but I won’t force it through Congress, I will listen to my colleagues and try to improve their ideas and suggestions for policy and put forward these ideas and more in the sessions to come. I believe I have the experience needed to make the UK and the South West an even better place to live, and am more than willing to make these dreams realities.
