Alex Lawrence for London MP on 25 Feb.

Day 825, 02:42 Published in United Kingdom USA by Alex Lawrence
To the United Kingdom and the People of London,

It has been a hectic time to say the least since I last addressed you all. Britain was invaded and almost wiped from the map, but thanks to skilled diplomatic negotiations by Dish's administration we were saved from the brink. However, I do have qualms about how the negotiations were handled... As a member of Parliament I feel I should make my position clear in regards to the war, as it is an indicator of how I think and will think in regards to future issues of import which are presented before the House of Commons.

Before I continue on about the war, I'd like to say that my opinion is not representative of the entire UKRP's opinion, and my opinion is mine alone.

That being said, I disagree with how the peace negotiations were handled. While Parliament was told negotiations were being held, there was no in-forum debate about whether we should declare peace with EDEN, with only an in-game vote being the result. This was the only part that was handled poorly by Dish's administration, resorting with an executive ultimatum rather than a legislative deliberation. Though time was scarce at the hour, a debate should have been held in any case.

If you are not convinced peace was the best decision, I will explain here:

tl;dr version ^

1. As an economist and Director of the Department of Trade, the supply of weapons has not significantly dropped, in fact supply stayed about the same throughout the war with a few dips here and there. It was the hope of our economists, as well as the rest of the world's economists that supply would decrease, but this was not the case here or elsewhere. People will say, "isn't it better to have at least a constant supply instead of an increasing supply?", to which the answer is yes, but not at the cost of point 2.

2. The treasury was close to breaking at the time peace was agreed upon. We would have had to pursue loans from allies, which would only put is in debt and allow us to continue the war against EDEN for a couple more weeks, if that. With effective planning (attacks on Liaoning and elsewhere) EDEN could have distracted our allies and brought London down within the next couple attacks.

3. The possibility of us regaining our territories militarily and continuing the campaign outside our borders was very slim, not because of a lack of strength but because of lack of funding. We would have to block several nations simultaneously on a daily basis and win battles, which would cost a fortune, which we don't have.

That aside, here's the basics:

Major items of accomplishment this past term

--I have served as the Director of the Department of Trade and observed market trends and fluctuations.

--I have continued to participate in the House of Commons forum and have present my spin on the issues.

--I helped guide and direct many citizens to the safety of London before the arrival of the armies of the pig-disgustings.

Major items to push this coming term

--Again, I intend to push taxes. With peace at hand and our economy starting to grasp for air, we need to lessen our taxes and let businesses grow again. Even more businesses are closing because of high taxes and are moving elsewhere, a critical factor when our economy is in such desperate need for a strong domestic business input.

--I will support any and all British military operations for the liberation of Germany and France. It was our intention to use our MPPs against the Polish and French empires, but seeing as how Spain never activated them and is blocking us from getting at Poland, mobile drops will be needed to liberate occupied friendly territory (possibly including Northern Ireland).

--A reconciliation with America. This invasion was prompted solely through American revanchism, not strategic forethought, and the feeling will only continue to persist with this draw/defeat for them. With America no longer a staunch enemy of ours we may be able to avoid encounters like this in the future. Think along the lines of the Portuguese-Spanish resolution that happened a few months ago.

Opinion on Current Situation-Wrap Up

It's clear that the UK can withstand an EDEN onslaught effectively, but it’s also clear that we can’t suffer against a prolonged siege and are dependent on our allies’ contributions on the battlefield. We need to increase the strength of our army and economy, as well as make it clear that we have not betrayed Phoenix in any way, that we are letting Phoenix direct its focus to more strategically important areas like Liaoning and North of Brazil. Taxes need to be lowered and babies retained in order for our country to have a strong future in the making.

A vote for me is a vote for continued economic progress and a safer United Kingdom. I promise to continue to remain active and help our economy and foreign policy along the right path.

Vote for Alex Lawrence, Vote for the UKRP!
