A walk to work and back

Day 1,261, 15:11 Published in South Korea Poland by Rory Winterbourne

While walking to work this morning I was dismayed to find that the major political party's of South Korea had smothered the billboards with propaganda, each one slandering the other. I was shocked and appalled, as South Korea is renown for its reserved, sincere approach to politics. Pressing play on my mp3 player I carried on my journey, past the deserted news stands, filled with its new ridiculous categories - the actual newspapers hidden from view.

After what seemed like no time at all, I was walking back past the same billboards as earlier. This time however a large group of people had gathered, they seemed to be pointing and laughing at something and talking in a language I couldn't understand. I stared at the picture for some time but couldn't find there source of amusement - it looked to me as if someone had sprayed the letters w and u too close together over the picture of a dragon and then run out of paint.

Expecting a similar sized crowd at the next billboard, I was surprised to find only one person. His hands covered in blue paint. 'Where is everyone else?' I asked. He replied only one word, 'airport'. And sure enough, as I continued my journey past the airport I could see plenty. Many happy people welcoming friends from far off lands. We live in happy time, I thought to myself...

Police later released the picture of one the suspected graffiti artists, apparently wanted in connection to several other more serious crimes and currently covered in blue paint.
