A Vicious Circle

It seems like forever that I've been playing this game and you could almost say that it has been forever. I joined this game 29th of March 2008 which is now about 3,5 years back. When you take that as part of my real life age I've been playing this game for almost 20% of my entire lifetime (do the maths and find out how old I am 😁) which does really sound like quite a lot. But then again it isn't when I look at how long I've been playing korfball in real life (real life sport, no online game or something haha, google it as most of you won'tk now what on earth it is as its a real Dutch sport and we do p0wn the world in it). as that's over 50% of my entire lifetime. But still, 20% is 1/5th and it simply sounds huge. Though I have to admit that a part of those 3,5 years were spent in exile as even I can't play this game 7 days a week for so long, it's not interesting enough for that.

And that's where I started to wonder, because over the years I've followed the development of this game and in all honesty I have to say that the overall line has been going downwards. From early Beta with introduction of new modules as the first war module and such, to v1 where people thought the game would crash, to v2 and so on, I've seen almost all of it and where in the beginning the line was going upwards, after a while it went from up, to flat, to slowly going down for me.

So when I thought about that, I began thinking about why that is and I have figured that out. Just like everything, games too need a strong foundation, a first person shootergame with rubbish controls doesn't work, a racegame with cars that float around on the track won't please anyone and with eRep that's the same, the game needs solid ground to build on and that solid ground has simply been lacking. Ever since I started playing this game it has never, ever been stable. There were always errors and 500 pages. Of course, in the beginning there was no reason to blame the Admins as it was a new game and it was rapidly growing (probably faster than the Admins would've imagined) so they had to swap servers a few times. But right now I don't think the game is really growing anymore and we still get countless chickens, maybe even more than in the past and because of that we complain.

I don't think its that we all complain because we dislike the new functions, modules etc so much, but I think we complain because the Admins keep making the wrong changes. The only changes they should be making is to the core of this game, probably to the servers too (I'm not the biggest geek so don't know it all) so that we players don't have to worry that the game might break down during an important battle, that we don't have to keep coming back fifteen times a day because the other fourteen times we couldn't log in to work. But because the Admins don't seem to be able to fix this while they are able to introduce new things, we simply keep complaining.

So most of us don't exactly know why we're complaining, while the Admins don't seem to realize that introducing new stuff doesn't fix the real problem and as long as this isn't solved I doubt we will ever stop complaining and thus do I doubt the Admins will ever stop introducing new stuff to feed our hungry bellies. Its a vicicous circle that we are in and the only one's who can get us out of it are the Admins, but they need to realize what is going on before things will ever change. Until that happens, we will al keep complaining about the game, but at least all of you now know why we are complaining (if you hadn't found out already).
