It's not the government's fault that the admins want to do the following

A. Ruin the economic module.
B. Get rid of orgs so it's harder to organise stuff
C. Run competitions that boost demand to the point of breaking the markets.

Furthermore, while Ireland did win a large amount of gold, giving that out to people is NOT socialist. GROWING our collective wealth is. Handing out supplies like the money is endless will see the country bankrupt in months as populist presidents do it more and more. We've seen that before. Our budget recovery didn't start until well into my term ffs.

Lastly, the money is in the hands of the state, which is democratic by its very nature. It is not in the hands of "a few men", it is being managed by them on behalf of the people. It is used ONLY for the people.

i agree with both of you, kinda. the thing is the money wont grow in the hand of "democray" you will just have a shitload of cash saved away for a rainy day, same time the enemy uses their money to grow bigger and bigger, but even if all ur money will be used for soldiers you will still be smaller :/ but in my opinion the best thing to do is to supply the soldiers or invest in factorys (and for that people that you can trust and wont stop play are needed), we are fucked 😕

It is not all used selfishly, Kurgan. Most money is used for genuine state interests.

Granted, it is highly unlikely a project would receive state funds if their faction did not approve. The kunts feel they are eIreland, and money spent on their best interests equals money spent on eIreland's best interests. Whereas money spent on some other faction's interests is equal to undermining the state. But that can also be said for most major factions in eIreland.

Personally I think spent money that favors one faction over another is deep rooted cancer that we will not get rid of any time soon. Power corrupts, money corrupts, and those at the top must guard themselves against that corruption. It's difficult to gain real perspective on one's own behavior. Most real villains don't even realize they are villains.

I don't think there's anybody in power now we can truly call a villain, though maybe a few have lost some perspective. From time to time, I know I have. More than once, I have made a poor decision about how to act, before getting fully informed about a situation. Even you Kurgan, can be occasionally blinded by your zeal.

Anyway Banshee, the point I was trying to make is that many of the same ppl involved in building that socialist wonderland back then are still working in Ireland today.
I agree that we're far from 'living the dream' in Ireland right now. But I think the past shows that we really do want the same thing you do, it's just not easy to get it.

If this is your goal I am glad to see you in the Dail and working towards the ideas you wish to see implemented. Yes the government made a lot of gold on the competition but with the number of selfish players that have been around in the past ( I am talking of thieves and people who don't put in to the system) it is understandable that the government does not just hand out funds or weapons or food to everyone just because they are citizens. In a perfect world there would be no need to check references or if people are actually working but this is not a perfect world. I wish it was. I have gained a lot from government programs. But I have put in to the system too. Not everyone does.

The 5000 gold would soon be gone with little gain if we don't manage it effectively. There are programs in the works for new citizens and boot camp training ground purchases but it is a big job and more citizens offering to help would make things go faster.

That's not a lot of money tbh. I've seen a CP blow 1/2million on a single hopeless campaign (despite being presented with the mathematics of hopelessness)

it's frustrating. me i was expecting some quick ideas, to use them, even just in a debate. i was expecting a fund to help citizen after a big effort, for food because of the raise.

it's sure that lot of players just stop 2-7 days because they were exhausted. and the government would have had do otherwise.

i am in favor of a reserve of food and weapon, kept by the country.

are we ready for another effort? are we ready for a war? we don't know, we need to have more transparency and support.

What would you like to know? There's not much to know tbh. The money from both of the last 2 prizes is safely (but slowly) growing. Our only real expenses are a bit of supply funding to the Irish Army. Even this is kept to a minimal as the IA makes most of its own weapons and has limited allotments.

Oh, a bit of funding goes to help stabilise the economy too. We have to keep inexpensive options for our citizens on the domestic economy. This also keeps the tax revenue flowing which pays for our limited mpp's.

Thanks for crediting to those wealthier (and in some cases, less wealthier than yourself) citizens who donated resources to be handed out during the Epic warfare. Those who donated so that successive governments could fish and build on the rewards of that labour, so that we may return to a situation like before where supplies and resources weren't an issue for any citizen - and not rely on short term political goals like this article to see us through the winter months.

I think you've outlined populism rather than socialism, or champagne socialism at the very least - you know, wear red, say comrade alot etc etc, while ask for tax breaks and emphasis on privatization (mhm..). Not that real life ideology really has a place in eRepublik, the "collective" approach (more 'Left' in nature) vs the "individualist" (more 'Right' in nature) approach is only really the applicable difference in game policy.

Given the ease which we're wiped last time, either we have naive politicians when it comes to MPP building or we're deliberately ignoring the fact we're a small island surrounded by a super alliance. MPPs are for the collective benefit, but some give more than others towards them.. Yeah, wealthier citizens often get a larger burden, whether that is fair or not, depends on your views aligning with the Left or the Right respectively.

i am certain we can maintain these type of gift AND keep a good treasury. the idea is to promote the circulation of the currency.

It's all well and good saying thank you Banshee, but if you're criticizing the gov in an event I was the main Minister overseeing for doing "nothing" then its a hollow thank you.

The only part of this article which actually advocates for socialist ideals is how to spend the rewards of this money, you've advocated spend it now - while others like me have said build on it for greater benefit later. The problem is Banshee, both of us have advocated socialist ideals, simply you have suggested a short term use of the rewards. Myself suggesting long term goals doesn't make it non-socialist, its just a different method for pursuing the same goal.

That 5000 Gold could pay for 100 MPPs. Or 84,000 Q7 Tanks. If 7 MPPs a month (despite trying to increase that), 14 months worth of MPPs. If 10 Q7 Tanks given to every active Irish fighter, 52 days worth (realistically, probably 70 days). Those are some numbers. I think the most striking point is that keeping MPP shacks is alot easier than keeping good supply. Good treasury means good MPP shack, but for supply, we'd need a huge amount of funds to build interest off to sustain an open supply to every citizen. 1 Million IEP isn't going to cut it, ~two months worth of supply really worth blowing the opportunity to return to fully open supply to citizens?

The blah blah about British citizens when your own party accepted their immigration is just political. The arguments about our region situation has been discussed too death, but I don't see anyone proposing a NE because despite the frustration (which we all share) that would result in a wipe. I wrote an objective piece via the DoD, couldn't have put it more comprehensively or rationally. None of that has anything to do with socialism, that is just substance-less political rhetoric trying to hide itself behind a populist socialism message.
