A trio of alliances

Day 416, 07:20 Published in Sweden Sweden by Krushnow

Before the two giants of our day, ATLANTIS and PEACE, there were three alliances controlling the world. This article is about the three now defunct alliances Nordic Alliance (NA), Mediterranean Alliance (MA) and the Formidable International Security Treaty (FIST).

The Nordic Alliance

No, it's not a typo, the alliance between northern Europe (Sweden, Norway, United Kingdom, Ireland, Romania and outside of Europe the United States of America) was not called Northern Alliance which is a common mistake (I've already treated this in a previous article), it was called the Nordic Alliance. The Nordic Alliance was created at almost the same time as the Mediterranean Alliance and probably because of it, at the time there was a strong fear/hatred towards Sweden and even though superior in both number and strength Sweden started to worry, so they turned to good ol' Sötebror (brothercountry, direct translation; Sweetbrother) Norway which was one of the countries that didn't dispise them and created the Nordic Alliance.

After a while it became clear that although Sweden and Norway indeed were strong they could not take on the MA alone and while the MA was growing stronger the NA stood still. So they offered the United Kingdom a chance to join NA (which would have been impossible only a month ago when they were a key member of the anti-Sweden alliance Northern Alliance), they accepted and later helped their weaker neighbour Ireland to join NA. There was always a race between the MA and NA to recruit new members and get to upperhand and invade the other one, if this would have happened I believe without a doubt that there would be a world war and people would be drawing their maps very differently now. This never happened though and it resulted in the stalemate of Europe.

The second European Giant, the Mediterranean Alliance

The Meditrerranean Alliance was created as a protection for weaker countries against the "warmongering swedes" exactly like the Northern Alliance, one might say that the only thing they did was change the name and invite some new member. Anyway the MA consisted of most of mainland Europe (Spain, France, Italy, Hungary, Austria, Netherlands, Portugal and outside of Europe Canada) and although weaker than the NA it was a worthy foe and in an all out war between the two alliances it's hard to predict who would win as both were skilled tacticians and close to even strengthed.

As mentioned above there was an intense rivalry between the two, a perfect example is when the NA recruited the US, MA didn't waste a minute in recruiting Canada. Since it was not possible for the two allinces to directly fight each other the battles were fought in "neutral" countries. If a country which wasn't a part of an alliance invaded another independent country the two would pick a side and support it with soldiers, money etc. The aiding of another country often resulted in it later joining the alliance that helped them. Now while the NA and MA where good at this there was to be an alliance that mastered the art unpresidentally, the Formidable International Security Treaty (FIST).

An asian fist to the face

FIST was the last of the three old alliance to be formed and was by far the most extreme in both warfare and personality, this can be seen in the according to me excellent choice of name (it was sometimes derogatory called the SAND alliance and almost always called Asian alliance or AA in Europe mostly because of it being faster to write and the similarity to the already existing european alliances). FIST consisted of most of asia (Pakistan, Japan, Indonesia, Turkey, Iran and later outside of Asia Greece).

The goal of FIST can varies from who you ask, they themselves would probably say it's to astablish world peace through war and a european would probably state that they're warmongering asians. Both of these statements would be correct and also false, officially they did want to astablish world peace through war and they were warmongering asians (just as warmongering as us europeans). FIST often used controversial tactics when fighting wars such as political coups which were done by sending people to an enemy country and winning the election and then invading the "attacker" and if going according to plan losing the plan because it lost the protection bonus.

Officially FIST was an enemy of both NA and MA but it had a bit better relations with MA since Pakistan (one of the key members of FIST) has always hated Sweden and therefore they supported the lesser of two evils. While there quite a few conflicts started by the NA and MA I think that FIST was responsible for more of the wars at the time, mostly because of it's geographical position.

Trivia:
The alliance between Norway and Sweden was called Sötebrorspakten (Sweetbrother pact, it doesn't really translate well) before the UK joined.

The two big alliances of our day ATLANTIS and PEACE are basically made up of the same members as NA, MA and AA (FIST). ATLANTIS has all the previous members of NA and a two from the MA. PEACE (original abbreviation: People of Earth Associated under Common Excellence) consists of all the FIST members, many MA members. Although superior in number of members (10 vs 16) ATLANTIS is considered the stronger of the two. You can tell that PEACE is very influensed by FIST which isn't that strange since it's pretty much the same countries with the exception of a few new countries. So actually much hasn't changed, just that now there are two giants instead of three. And this time the war did break out.
