A Toast to Democracy

Day 2,852, 19:23 Published in Japan Nigeria by Madame Yang

To our would-be dictators:

Please believe that I have a great respect for your talents and abilities. However, I cannot be your subordinate. The same is true of those who fight alongside me now; they could become your friends, but not your subordinates. Though it's entirely their business, I can just about guarantee it.

That is to say - if I'm allowed to say important-sounding things - democracy is the philosophy of making friends on equal terms, not of creating master-servant relationships. I want to have good friends and I want to be a good friend to other people. But I do not want a good master or to be a good servant. That is precisely the reason I have not been able to uphold the same banner as you.

Although I appreciate your kind offers of patronage, I doubt you have any need for someone as troublesome as myself.
