A Rainy Start to the Olympics
Catsoo
Today is the day the Olympics start in London and I'm proud to say that I'll be there as I live in England. For the past few days it's been boiling, and it didn't feel like Britain. But now you can really see Best of British Weather. There's a rule here in England; If it's important, it will rain. And it's true.
But this rainy day marks something that has been planned for 7 years. This is the time to make other countries fear Team GB. We were The Great British Empire. We lost the status, but our minds are still interconnected. Today, the countries fight. Not just for the sake of winning, but for pride, both for the athlete and the country.
So we meet; every 4 years in the summer, every other 4 years in the winter. And we compete. Best friends of different nationalities collide and either weep in sadness or rise in pride. The fate of the country rests on a team of people. The pressure immense. Can you imagine? The whole World's eyes on you, your country relying on you. It's on.
But the beauty of the Olympics are the bonds. The bonds made, the bonds strengthened, the bonds broken. Bonds of pride, bonds of love, bonds of friendship and bonds between a country and a person. No love can total that. The pride you feel as you see your country wins a medal, as you see the flag being raised. Nothing compares to that feeling.
So today, is a day of harmony. Today, we celebrate as our countries come head to head. Good luck, athletes. You'll need it.
