A Plan to Strengthen Canada and our Military

Day 607, 23:50 Published in Canada Canada by koolmanjack

We have a serious problem in eCanada of not being active enough and wasting a population that should make us a major military power. Instead, our roughly 100 CAF regulars are sad proof in our inability to use our most valuable resource: people. We have an official population of around 4500, with about 1500, or 33%, actually being active, according to various sources. When you look at eHungary, they have an official population of almost 15000, with just under half being active, or 7000 roughly (can be figured by looking at wellness of pop and other factors). What my point is that their power partly comes from the fact they are active, which means more people move there to live, and the people that join the game there are more likely to keep playing and being active. The truth is that RL Hungary is a third of the population of RL Canada, and has even a lower proportion of internet users according to CIA fact book. So while advertising in RL Hungary and the threat of annihilation at the hands of eRomania probably helped in increasing their population and with that their power.

The way to ensure that Canada in the future resists getting bullied to this extent is to make our population more active by more government programs targeted at mentoring new players and making it easier to contribute to eCanada early on. The best way I think is through military reform, although re-establishing the university, a mentoring program, and expanding public and private charities would go a long way. What I am proposing is to make the military accessible to all citizens easier and to build up national pride that has been allowed to flounder lately. Reform of the military supply system and battle strategy is a different discussion, but would certainly be affected and changed if the proposed changes were enacted.

In the future, make military enlistment mandatory, with every player enlisted once they reach level 5. When they are first enrolled, basic info on fighting will be sent and they will be asked to enrol in the training program, which along with more detailed instruction will include having to fight 3 times in an actual battle as instructed, and prove they are active by passing 2 consecutive roll calls. These missions would be:

The first mission will be to fight with no weapons and to heal you using a hospital to maximize wellness.

Second mission would be to request supplies and to use them as instructed, and maximize wellness using hospital.

Third mission would be to move to another region they have been told to go to with a moving ticket they have been given, find out what its hospital quality is, ask for supplies and use them correctly, and maximize wellness at that region’s hospital. (or give weapons and moving ticket at same time)

After this, they will achieve the rank of private and be placed in a reserve platoon. People that don’t do the training will have no rank and will receive NO weapons, moving tickets or services from govt until training is complete (special exemption during war can be made, but will be given less weapons than regular reservists would). Periodic roll calls and training wars would be used to keep the reserves as active as possible and be used to gain rank for members. Roll calls would be done twice a week minimum, with one roll call a week required to stay a ranked member in the reserves. They will also receive a monetary reward (10-30 CAD) for completing training. They will also be allowed to apply for the regular forces afterwards. When the reserves are needed, funding and supplying would be up to military command.

To join the regular forces, completing the training would be necessary, but once it was completed and you had passed 2 consecutive roll calls in the reserves you would be automatically be enrolled into a regular platoon. Roll calls and additional instruction and training would continue and if failed at some point, demotion in rank or to reserves could happen. The regular forces membership should be expanded as well, as Banach’s proposal addresses (i don’t have a link), which Congress should consider seriously in the future. Perhaps initially only moving tickets would be provided as needed for CAF missions for new regulars if cost was a problem. Another idea would be to put certain platoons inactive when not needed, or to rotate use of platoons in terms to save on costs. Perhaps certain CAF platoons could be specialized for PTO missions, or for helping with resistance movements and such.

While cost is a consideration in this plan, I think the government should consider raising taxes to pay for the training program and additional soldiers, as the benefits are returned to the country and citizens alike through a more active and strengthen country. While my plan is probably not perfect, I think it is a blueprint for improving our country going forward. While it is a lot of work to implement and would take a while to prefect, it would in the long run be a positive for eCanada.

My 5 reasons why the above should be done:
1) Give people more to do, especially when first begin, increases active population
2) Strengthens and increases size of military, Canada’s power and influence as well
3) Increases national pride in our forces and in country
4) Increase wellness through knowledge and training, benefits business productivity
5) Make Canada more internationally respected as more than an area for resources
