A personal observation..

Day 1,765, 10:42 Published in Ireland Ireland by Bean&teddy

So in case you haven;t noticed the new politcial module has been announced and here it is Political module.

What it consists of:

Basically instead of voting for individuals you now vote for a party and depending on the amount of votes a party receives decides who gets elected.
PP's must make a priority list to decide who gets in first.

Example: Ireland has 40 congress seats. For arguments sake ILP has 20 candidates and sets the priorities in the following order:

1: A
2: B
3: C
4: D
5: E
6: F
7: G
8: H
9: I
10: J
and so on..

If ILP then received 25% of total votes cast in Ireland they would get their first 10 (25% of the 40 congress members) priorities elected.

So that's basically it so lets look at some pros and cons...

Pros:

1) you could argue that it means multies have less chance of being elected. PP's can put them as the bottom priority and even if they give themselves 10 votes theres less chance of them getting in.

2) It means more new players can more dedicated players have a better chance of getting elected if PP puts them high enough on the Prio list. This is good as it means we may have a more active and fresh congress.

3) It will mean candidates will have to work together to increase support for their parties rather than working as individuals. We may start to see some more party community come back into the game.

Cons:

1) No strategy. This might be a good thing but it takes out the strategic part of elections. Before you could direct votes to ensure your party got the most amount of seats possible. Now it is based on how much support your party has and strategic organization is out of the equation.

2) Who has prio? This is going to cause a lot of problems in most parties deciding who comes first and who comes last. I have looked at it and I think the most effective and fair order is:
1: actives who didn't get in last month
2: newbies that are active
3: all other actives and dedicated party members
4: others/ unofficial
5: multies

3) Its not exactly fun. You have a choice to vote for one of 5 parties and after that you just wait and hope your party receives enough for you to get elected. You miss the old nerves of being in the green by one vote, or missing out on being elected by a last minute vote for your opponent knocking you out of top 4/5. yeah that sounds pretty suckish but its the highs and the lows that make the game fun.

4) Parties outside the top 5 will have little to no representation unless they make some sort of pact with one of the top 5 parties for votes etc in return for running their candidates.

Who knows, maybe the community will make this better than it sounds because after all it's the people that make this game good. This is just my personal observation from being heavily involved in elections for the last few months.

Please leave a comment with your opinion.
