A Kind of Farewell

Day 665, 15:09 Published in Sweden Sweden by IAMEP

The best way to say this is to be frank:
I've decided to stop playing eRepublik.
There are some reasons why, but the lack of time in the coming months to play the game like I've grown used to is the main reason.

The reason why I started to play eRepublik in the first place was that I thought it seemed to be a very social game. A game full of potential and fun stuff to do, a game imitating real life in a way.
I also had my eyes on one of the eSwedish political parties - The Progress Party. I joined them very shortly after I registered, and they proved to be a good gang with lots of potential and visions. But, sadly, bad times caught up with TPP about three weeks ago and the party felt forced to dissolve.
An early "goal" with my career in eRepublik was to become the eSwedish Ambassador for eUK. A goal that I'm proud to say that I managed to achieve. However, it wasn't quite as glamorous as I might have thought it to be...
Later I also got the confidence from eSwedish President St00r to become Vice Minister of eSwedish Education. And during my month with those ministers I had a great time, and I still have a great time on IRC with them.
I also applied, a bit too ambitious perhaps, to the role of Vice Minister of eSwedish Foreign Affairs this month. When I wasn't accepted as VMoFA, I won't lie, it felt like a slap in the face - sort of. I really thought that I was gonna be accepted...

However, not being accepted as VMoFA also made me realise what eRepublik really is:
A game where you press two buttons each day, and the rest of the day you interact with other players. It's a great concept, but it feels a bit poor - you should perhaps be able to do more in the game itself, even though the interacting part is a big (and great) part of the game.
Maybe the game didn't really suit me from the start, I do not know. All I know is that the interactions I had on forums and IRC made me lose track of IRL time, and I've now taken the decision to spend more time IRL instead.
I gained positions, roles, and responsibility in eRepublik. Some of these responsibilities were perhaps too much, since I felt like I was neglecting some of my IRL responsibilities in order to cope with my eRepublik responsibilities. And to revoke all my roles in the game would make the game not much more than a game were you click two buttons each day. My roles and responsibilities made the game for me, as well as destroyed it to some extent.

I want to send out a farewell to all of you whom I've encountered during my time here in eRepublik.
And I want to send out a special farewell to those whom I've come to consider as friends, I think you can guess who you are. It's better to mention no-one than to forget to mention someone, I hope you'll understand this.

This may or may not be a "permanent" farewell. I may rise up once again to fight for what I believe in ... all be it some time in the future.

Good luck to all of you.
And good bye.
