A Glimpse Into The CPF Lounge. Part 21

Devilcarrier enters the lounge and goes over to the bar. His soiled uniform indicates that he's been fighting, but he does not look tired. He treats himself to a dark rum.

"Where have you been?" asks sister Linda, who is sitting at the bar too.

"Eastern Midlands. They had over 200 troops to our own 10. So I made only a token effort. I killed my man. Then the inevitable happened and I was taken out."

"Sorry," the cute little pixie says with a smile."

"Yeah. You can't win them all but I'm getting some questions in my mind."

"Such as?" she asks, raising her glass of white wine to her lips and looking around the room for good looking guys.

"Let's start with this one," Devilcarrier says, " Given you can't win them all, why can't we try to win each one? This battle had been given level 4 priority in the civilian orders. Did that change without an announcement? Did many people read about the two day truce in Acacia's Christmas in August article and assume there would be no fighting until after the 25th? There was a battle declared in Normandy by us at the same time. We lost. Why? We declared it to "Teach the French a lesson", right? Well what did that teach them? I invested in victory bonds. Has the new gold made Acacia willing to push the button without trying to win the battle?"

Devilcarrie's voice changes to one of mockery. "Oh well, we can't win them all! Try try and try again troops!"

"Damn!" Devilcarrier says, looking into Linda's wide brown eyes, "I just made myself angry. I talk too much."

"Or maybe," he mumbles, "I think too much and care too much."
