A day in the life of the Cabinet

Day 2,290, 14:46 Published in Japan Japan by William of Edenbury

Hello Everyone

Despite this article talking about government work, Its under my personal Banner for two reasons. This will refer mostly to what I do on a day-to-day basis (since I dont want to unnecessarily speak for the others on their own work) and because I am rather pissed off. It doesnt look good for a government paper to have a pissed off tone you know

So we've had some issues with a perception that the cabinet is not really doing anything. Well let me disabuse you of the misconception and give you a peak into the shit we deal with on a daily basis.

So of course we start my day off with waking up. I immediately turn on the computer and log onto eRepublik because I am on a different timezone to many of our people and will get important messages in the middle of my night.

The messages I have in my inbox are titled something like this:

~Cabinet Thread

~JaSKo Union Thread

~Supply System

~Supply Request

~Supply Request

~Supply Request

~MoD Orders Thread One (PKHS, IAR, IJA, Vendetta, Maid Cafe)

~MoD orders Thread Two (CtG, DNP, SSG)

~XXXX country request (Political)

~XXXX country Request (Military)

~ULJ leadership Thread

Of course those are just the PMs that are related to my Ministries and the ULJ. Doesnt look like too much right? Well keep reading to find out what those PMs are like.

So after I check what PMs I have, then I have to set them in priority. After all, I need to get to my university classes. So all supply system requests need to be taken care of first. Those fall into three categories:

1) Anekis Pantry request (ULJ)- This is my party's supply cache

2) Mercenary payments- I regularly contract Mercenaries to supplement our military through my personal funds

3) National Military Supply- I still run a small commune that I have been supplying daily since some time last autumn

So off goes the food and weapons. I move around 100 Q7 weapons and 1k Q5 food on a daily basis. If an expansive battle and mercenary payments also fall on that day, my supply distribution can exceed 1k Q7 weapons and 10k Q5 food.

This is of course privately funded since the government doesnt have much of an income. The ULJ supply system is volunteer funded though.

So all the supplies have been moved and I have spent a few hours in class. I'm hungry by this point since I can't eat breakfast due to a stomach condition I've had since childhood, but now I have to take care of the next set of messages.

JaSKo Message thread-

This thread has been running all this month and is a discussion about the possibility of a political union with South Korea. Since it has started we have essentially created roughly five pages worth of documents about an entirely new form of unified government and all the possibilities of its operations we can think of. This was created from the ground up and wasn't based on much else since the original document came from our side and eJapan doesn't have a constitution to base anything off of.

Cabinet Thread -

This is where the cabinet keeps longer discussions and leaves messages for eachother. Currently we are working on the possibility of extending the SSG supply system to cover the national Military and its assets. If this works out we hope to expand further and create a nationwide supply system. (I'll write more on this in a moment)

National Requests
Next come the requests from other countries. I'll sometimes get political requests for whatever reason, those I hand over to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and I take care of any military requests. These are thankfully a bit rarer. The ones that do come in can usually turn into long threads with quite a bit of debate if more people are included.

So now I've taken care of my PMs. By this point there is a good chance I have missed lunchtime by an hour or more. I will now either eat, or have to put off my late lunch if this happens to be a day I have an afternoon class.

So now its late afternoon. I have hopefully eaten by this point and now I have to hop on to the Cabinet's IRC channel. I can't put this off because most of the current cabinet is on a European timezone so this is our only chance to talk before they need to go to sleep.

Here is the bulk of our work. We advise the president on the various matters of state and he outlines what he needs us to do for the next day or two.

Foreign Affairs, educational articles, military strategies, finance discussions, you name it, we have to complete within 3~4 hour period while I have finally been able to get online and the others are still able to stay awake.

So we get most of our work done here. I am likely eating my late lunch as we discuss who is trying to screw us over today and what we can do to stop them.

By the time we are finished it is my late evening. But my work isn't anywhere near done yet. In fact it just started.

The European members of the cabinet have gone to sleep after we tried to finish as much of the cooperative work as we could. Now I have to do my individual work.

I am currently the Minister of Defense and Minister of Internal Affairs. So I have to do such things as set up surveys, track down people that i need to talk to for some reason and update a list of documents.

This is our shared document list, my personal document list that covers ULJ and Ministry matters is a little bit shorter. The Great loli library is a leftover from a few months ago when I started this particular list

Further included in my nightly workload through are the occasional articles. Unfortunately I am a slow typer. I always have been. So articles can take me a couple hours depending on their type. The Japanese language articles from when I was MoE could take me up to five hours, while the MoD daily orders articles only take me about 15-30 minutes despite having a template because I have to adjust a certain annoying code that centers images each time.

Once I have written the articles I can look forward to Geezus either bitching or advertising his MU on the MoD articles, and TLS complaining on most every other government article (Thank you CtG for having calmed yourself down in the last couple of months). Now everyone knows why it is my policy to never comment on my own articles. I don't like to feed the trolls.

So thats my usual day. Don't believe me? Of course not. Who in their right mind would subject themselves to this bullshit each and every day just to get bitched at about why their ass is being so lazy since they haven't made their friggin work public.

Well why do you think so many of our government players quit so quickly?

Natsu Natsumee was a great and charismatic CP but he quit after congress' constant bitching. He literally almost had a nervous break down.

Ahava has one of the best Party President's SSG has had, breathing new life into them and being the power behind multiple Presidents. Reason for quitting? Again, a near nervous breakdown after constantly being bitched at for months on end.

Of course those arent all the people we lost (Mii for example) but its pretty much the same story in every case. They would bend over backwards to try to get this country running and would only get complaints in return. You dont have to be a psychologist to understand that if a person gets constant negative feedback no matter how great their efforts, that they will eventually stop trying.

Through some magic I've managed to keep that breakdown at bay, but even I'm not immune. Through the last couple of months when this crap with the alliances started and everyone got the stupid idea that we could magic our way into one, I've developed severe insomnia and a nervous habit of clenching my jaw so hard that I even when I do finally get sleepy, I can't sleep from the pain.

Now you many of you may think that such a thing is impossible. This is just a game after all.

Yes it is a game. A crappy one at that. That isnt the cause of the problem though. Its the ever complaining assholes that do people in. The game is pixels but the people are real. Have you ever had someone constantly complain about your work? Put you down no matter how hard you tried for THEIR friggin sake? All those people that quit have. They couldn't stand it. Couldnt stand this eCountry's people who are with you one moment and willing to crucify you the next.

That's the nature of eJapan you know. Those that try to improve it will be worked until they can no longer work. They will be held up and burned in effigy by their enemies while their "friends" sit quietly in the background. At some point all those good people will be used up and you will be left with the likes of Geezus and other.

I mention Geezus because that half assed demagogue not only broke so many past treaties that no one is willing to believe that a treaty with eJapan will last more than one CP term, but he also killed off hundreds of new players with his his party policies. For proof I will point to the US and Taiwan that specifically mentioned his name when they refuse to talk with us and the fact that DNP barely ever kept steady number of players at the top spot when the ULJ is growing every week without doing anything other than sitting in their former position.

And thats my rage article. I'm considering either quitting this game or moving to another eCountry next month. So those of you who think you can do a better job than us, get off your asses and do it. You've already half used up the poor souls in the cabinet.
