A Date with Destiny: Economy of the United Kingdom

The economy is central to almost everything we do in Erepublik. Without a good economy a Military can't fight, Housing can't be built, Food can't be cooked and our gifting schemes won't run. So it is important that the United Kingdom has a strong economy. I stand before you here in Cardiff the home of Congressman Jasperking my Minister of Finance for June. I wish to tell you my beliefs of how a economy should run for the benefit of everyone in the United Kingdom.

A Balance

Now this is always an argument every election mostly between UK Reform and the Peoples Communist Party. What is better a Free Market or a Controlled Economy in Erepublik. I say neither a good Government can strike the delicate balance between these two ways of thinking. I believe that for example a President himself should have 0 investment in the private sector companies. This way I can be impartial should intervention be needed. I'll use an example of when I feel the Government needs to interfere:

Company A: A Stable company is in danger of going broke. It is not because of poor management it is due to the lack of demand for that businesses product due to the Admin's shutting down an important feature. (Say War for example.) In fact say it's a weapons company. I'd make an agreement that if they sell at a break even cost we will buy their stock for our Military. This way the company stays afloat and the Military gets cheap as chips Weapons. If we run out of Paratroopers we will arm the reserves. If we run out of them we will arm our Allies and resistances such as the Australians.

Workers

I touched on unemployment in my last article. So this sort of links into that in fact it does. Should a employee be made redundant by his company. We will employ him in our training facilities at a good living wage until he can find a job in the private sector again. After all most of the time it's not the workers fault but poor decision making by a General Manager.

Trade and Outsourcing

In order to have a good supply of Raw Materials and other products we may need. I will try my best to make sure that UK companies abroad are supported. As long as jobs are safe in the United Kingdom that is of course. I propose that for goods and materials that we need the Government pays a portion of these companies export licenses to the UK. This way we will have plentiful Iron, Diamonds and such. Always better to have too much than too little. At least from a consumer point of view.

Banks

I do not believe that it is the job of Government to provide loans to the private investors outside of crisis situations. Thus I will try to encourage the growth of Commercial Banks once again. There was a time when we had two Z-Banc and 1st Commercial. By allowing the Bank of England to once again give inter-bank loans we hope to see Commercial Banks rise up once again. They have been sleeping for far too long.

Final Word

This is a rather basic package but it has served me well in the past. Taking on-board the advise of the greatest economic minds in Erepublik. I have always done what is best for our economy and not what is best for my companies. I don't have any private investments that I have to look after and put before my duty as President. So therefore I feel I will be the most impartial when intervention is needed in our economy.

Next stop on my campaign trail is Scotland on my campaign trail to talk about Politics in the United Kingdom.
