A Commentary on the Presidency

Day 895, 20:10 Published in USA USA by Woxan

The Presidency is the elected leader of the country, with many duties, including but not limited to: setting the foreign policy direction of the nation, being the voice for the nation, etc.

In America, our government is becoming stale. Every President since Harrison Richardson (July 2009), has served in his original wartime cabinet. This is stale and we need turnover. New players need to know that they can one day serve high in our military, our Congress, or the Presidency it self. However, it's a two sided problem: new players, you need to take initiative as well. I can look back over my long term eRep career and see systems or initiatives I created still in place. So new Americans, join the Training Corps, join a political party and take initiative (or take over a 6th party one with your friends, a daunting challenge to break Top 5, but AAP and Feds did it), gun for Congress, join our forums write good media, or whatever suits you to move America and yourself forward. Don't be afraid to hold back.

Moving onto the subject of Presidency and new players, we've seen a change in transition the past 3 months. Josh Frost, PigInZen, and myself (Woxan), chose not to run for a 2nd term (or in Frost's case, 3rd). While Frost did serve two terms, they were not consecutive. This allows for better roll over of leaders, and is a nice move away from our rl feeling that every President is entitled to 2 terms. One month in the office is draining enough; I can not imagine doing two straight months. I hope this tradition continues, as I don't believe that Harrison Richardson (former President), will run for a 3rd month of Presidency. Making 2nd terms a taboo (or at least consecutive), is the best way to go, imo. It prevents most players from getting permanently tapped out (granted, PiZ and I are an exception to this rule), and will give newer players a shot to move up, and bring in fresh blood.

And a brief personal memoir:

South Africa + 7 regions, two victories in Western Australia, Russia out of China, Karnataka +300 citizens, +200 voters overall in the Congress (Apr 25) vs Presidency (Apr 5) elections, and other stuff. I think that's a success, but history will be the judge.

My endorsement, for what it's worth:

Best of luck to front runner Harrison Richardson, may America be filled with a month of glorious chicks.
