A Basic Right, Denied.
Panther
Some may be asking what is meant to be taken from this article. As is stated in the eUSA Constitution, we are all endeavored to freedom of speech found here: http://wiki.erepublik.com/index.php/Constitution_of_USA.
1. All residents of the United States are considered equal in worth. No resident shall ever be denied his basic right of Free Speech, regardless of its content. Furthermore, it is the duty of the United States Government to protect and defend the right to free speech of its citizens, regardless of foreign interests.
Some citizens have had those rights stripped. Emerick, a long time eUSA resident, and formerly an active voice of eUSA, was stripped of all of his rights to post and speak on the eUSA forums (not directly connected to eRepublik), permanently.
Doesn't this conflict greatly with our Constitution? How can this be justified if it is taking away his rights?
The ban log report is listed here: http://eusforum.com/index.php/topic,4041.msg81019.html#msg81019
Not even listed clearly are his offenses in which he committed supposedly in the wrong. Quite an odd conundrum, if you will. Unban Emerick, it has been far too long to have this ban continue!

Thanks Panther. You're great.
removing the ban is not enough, it is only a symptom. The US government should not give such power as it does to an entity that is so authoritarian. Though that is the RL legal right of the owners of the forums. The US Government should provide the People with a forum that is democratic.
I can agree with this.

I may not agree with what emerick says all the time, or even most of the time, but he should still have his right to say what he thinks.

Free speech should be protected
voted. Freedom of speech is what unites America.

Emerick back to the forums! Voted multiple times!
Emerick deserves to have a voice in the forums. Although I'm not sure what we all did to deserve having to listen to him!
Selling GOLD.
PM me.
(Also a big plus if you got STEAM, but only within few hours from now)

Voted and promoted. He has contributed so much progress to our eNation.
Not to mention they keep saying "Permaban means Permanent ban, regardless." So...what if the person that declared the ban was corrupt or mistaken? Terrible argument.
Let Emerick back in!
We never had an issue with Emerick in our former forums interestingly. In fact he was a mod for the original eUSA forums that Dishmcds ran. Voted.
emerick is great.
What exactly did emerick say?
Free speech? what is that.
voted, i will not allow this to happen without ding something to help.
"regardless of its content" ? The Constitution needs to be amended then. Not all speech is free, there are consequences to what you say.
just fyi, I'm saying this in general. Idk what went down with Emerick.
Voted.
Go Emerick!
Yes, Muljo, there are. But not a kick in the face and a boot into the ally. You respond to force with force, and verbal abuse likewise. Not that I was very abusive, check my posts.
What did he say.
What exactly do you have to do to get that kind of ban?!
Crazy. Free speech rules. I just wish people didn't confuse the right of free speech with "Say whatever the heck I can because I'll get away with it!" -Not directed at Emerick, just life experiences.
""regardless of its content" ? The Constitution needs to be amended then. Not all speech is free, there are consequences to what you say."
And how to you propose it be amended? There's a reason that's in there.

Agreed. Denmark has free speech, and they suck hard. So what's that say for the US?
Not sure that's a valid document... just 'cuz it's in the wiki doesn't mean anything. Voted nonetheless... I'm happy to have discussion on the Emerick thing.
Voted. Would like to know what Emerick did to infringe on the rights of others - something severe enough to warrant this imprisonment.
Stronghol😛 it's on the wiki because it's been allowed to stay there because it's a valid document. Last July, our congress voted it into power
Unban Emerick!
"Agreed. Denmark has free speech, and they suck hard. So what's that say for the US?"
Wow. You serious?
Emerick is great! Voted.
Voooottteeeddddd
Yeh, its hilarious that erep noobs like Alee Ann and Henry Baldwin have any power over anything.
Free Emerick! Club baby seals!
Voted, Free Emerick!!!
I couldn't find the article in the wiki. Could somebody link or clarify the reason for the ban please?
eh, again, the forums are a private entity, and thus have no freedom of speech, and thus the forum admins can do whatever they want, and ban whoever they want on whim. On the forums, freedom of speech doesn't exist, because it infringes upon the freedom of the property owner to conduct business as they well please. You can't enter a synagoge and spout nazi propoganda, and while that is an extreme example, it is a proper one. If you all want emerick to have freedom of speech so much, create a new forum with different admin regulation. But this isn't a freedom of speech issue.
unban Emerick for sure, free speech is a right in America whether it was on the forums or not it was the US forums ... although i could debate the comment by Smirnoff saying free speech unites us lol
Forum activity is used as the main indicator of how hard a Congress person is working. If they are not involved in all forums and the IRC, they are accused of doing very little come election time.
That being the case, I think it's fair to say that what happens on the forums IS an extension of eRepublik. Many discussions take place there. That is where new contacts are made. It is an incredibly useful tool for new members and established members seeking (re)election.
I'm sick of people saying that since it isn't TECHNICALLY connected to the game that we have no rights and the eConstitution doesn't apply. Even in the real world, the Constitution doesn't lose meaning or power just because you're in a private residence or company.
sounds like a kid went on a power trip and had to find some way to bolster his eEgo
wow great article but I'm creeped out by the mouth pic...
Agreed, fingerguns. If the "eUSA" forums are to be named such and used as the primary platform for governmental communication, then they need to be held to the same standards as the eUSA itself. Otherwise, we clearly need a different location for congressional discourse that remains constitutional.
Personally, I congratulate Emerick on having the courage to so bluntly state some things that others skirt around, and I'm sure he gets a lot of flak for that sort of personality, although I may not always agree with the content of his statements.
I still haven't seen anyone confirm what it is that he said or did to warrant such a ban.
...Some speech shouldn't be protected. The NY Times publishing a list of CIA agents abroad which got many US citizens killed was an absolute travesty. I don't know the situation at all, but if his speech was counter-productive then why protect it? Post the details before you declare a victim.
sexy lips of lady liberty.
let her speak!
voted. i still want to know exactly what he said
Agreed, if Emerick stops trying to clumsily flirt with me. My boyfriend doesn't like it.

Oh please, everyone knows "rights" are just an excuse for imperialism and to placate.
You have a right to speak.
You do *NOT* have a right to a platform.
The eUSA forum has decided to ban him. Their choice, their soapbox.
NOBODY is keeping him from shouting, responding to other peoples articles, or starting a paper of his own.
People should remember the difference between rights and privledges.
If he runs for office and wins, how could he do his job?
