They “Halve” it…
In what has become a gripping battle in the first ever series to begin the Canadian Hockey League, we put game three in the history books; as a tie. Before the puck drop, during the warm up skate, tensions flared when an errant stick tripped up the Dynamo’s winger Halve. Mr. Mills and Koolmanjack took exception to the shrewd attempt, creating a scrum that took the refs nearly 15 minutes to break up. The ice, littered with sticks and gloves, was quickly cleared by the arena’s personnel. With the ice cleared, the sold out crowd enjoyed a small tribute to Clancy Forrest as he dropped the puck for Marcchelala and Ayeshan Dakseus. The media took their pictures and the game ready to begin.
The Dynamo’s were the first to break open the scoring at 9:15 into the first, after Fred Carle won a face off in the Omega zone, quickly passing it to the point where Nucksalltheway fired a blast that was easily steered aside by Emilio Sanchez. Leps Dissim was there to scoop up the loose puck but was hammered into the boards by Dynamo’s winger Tooyaleon, picking up the loose puck. Tooyaleon fired a the puck at a sprawling Emilio Sanchez making the first save, but could not setup again in time for Fred Carle’s rebound blast that found the back of the net. Not more than 30 seconds later, the Dynamo’s would find themselves a man down when Uraczak, the Dynamo’s goalie, would be called for a trip and seeing Ayeshan Dakseus head to the box to serve his teamates penalty. The Omega’s would only muster 3 shots on the power play, one of which saw a blocked shot come off of Derek Harland and right to the stick of Ayeshan Dakseus who was stepping out of the box. He crossed into the Omega’s zone, faked a shot and opted to pass to teammate Koolmanjack who fired a shot that went off of defender Ralph de Ver and into the net.
Mid way through the second, the Dynamo’s would take a 3-0 lead, after a botched line change left the Omega’s off guard and in trouble. Emilio Sanchez decided to come out of his net and attempt to poke the puck loose as Scorpius screamed down the slot. Before the puck could be checked, Scorpius fired a pass to defensmen Koolmanjack who deked around the down and out Emilo Sanchez and passing it back to Scorpius who would slide the puck into the empty net. With only minutes left in the second, the Omega’s would chalk up their first point of the game as a shot from the point would miss the net and be corralled by Jake Bannon. With the Omega’s quickly changing, Bannon would send a pass along the boards to defensemen Petz. Waiting for his teammates, Petz slowly worked his way down the blue line, finding no shot but a wide open Marcchelala, who fired the one timer just under the left arm of goaltender Uraczak.
In a scoring frenzy, the third started out with a bang. Off the opening faceoff, Marcchelala won for the Omega’s, sending the puck to Mirahge. Mirahge skated to the blue line dumping the puck in. Derek Harland scooped up the biscuit and sent it over to Fram and dodging what could have been a game altering check into the boards. Fram dished it off to Mirahge who managed to out skate Ayeshan Dakseus and find himself on a break away, leaving the defenders Derek Harland and Koolmanjack to watch a gorgeous display of stick-handling ability before roofing it on Uraczak. With the Omega’s one goal behind, Alias Vision was determined to bring the game to a tie. Streaking through the neutral zone on his way into the zone, Dwarelis delivered a massive blow that I’m sure rattled the teeth of Alias Vision, and sent him to the dressing room. David Letang then came out of nowhere to send Dwarelis to the ice in a hump. Nucksalltheway and Anothony Khoury then dropped the gloves and squared off. What started off as nothing more than clutching and grabbing quickly turned to shot for shot, in a battle that would make even the strongest of stomach turn away. With no clear victor, both men would take their seats in the sin bin, wiping away the red stains from a broken nose for Nucksalltheway and a missing front tooth from Anthony Khoury. Back to the ice with just over 12 minutes to play in the third, the Dynamo’s still leading 3-2, until a pass from Scorpius to Halve was intercepted by Ralph de Ver and sent up to Mirahge. Miraghe skated over the blue line and set up. After a few passes around the ice, a point shot blasted by Petz but saved by Emilio Sanchez would be sent out to the neutral zone… however, Ralph de Ver was able to keep the puck onside and blasted a shot of his own that would find the shaft of Mirahge’s stick and slip past Uraczak to tie it up at 3. Time seemed to stand still as the puck was dropped with 6:34 of the third remaining. Fans on their feet and the players ready to go, a face off to the right of Uraczak, goes the way of the Dynamo’s. The puck is dropped back to Koolmanjack who sends a breaking pass up to Halve. With a ton of speed, Halve streaks into the Omega’s zone and fires a shot that is cleared away by Sanchez. Picking up his own rebound, Halve fires a slap shot that misses the net and comes all the way back to defender Derek Harland. With Halve camping out front of Sanchez, Harland lets one rip towards the net. In an effort to give the Dynamo’s the advantage, Halve turns to allow the puck at the net but hooking the skate of Sanchez as the puck crosses the line. After a review of the goal, it is determined that the goal would not count, and Halve would be escorted to the box for goalie interference. With 1:02 with the man advantage, Mirahge would take a feed from Fram and snap the tie on the power play. Hats rained down on the goal scorer, Mirahge, as he records a natural hat trick and gives his team the edge, 4-3.
Halve would soon redeem himself for the penalty taken earlier, as he would find Scorpius on a two on one break. The Omega’s taking a line change would result in a turnover that proved costly. Scorpius skated alongside Halve as they entered the zone with only Petz to break them up. A diving block proved ineffective as the Dynamo’s would send the game to a deadlock (4-4) off the stick of Scorpius. After taking a bone jarring hit earlier in the game, Alias Vision would skate back out onto the ice. Wining the faceoff after on offside call to Fred Carle, Alias Vision puts the puck on the stick of Leps Dissim. Dissim skates up the side board and feeds a pass to Bannon. Bannon sends the puck to David Letang who looks for the shot but cannot find one sending the puck instead back to Dissim. Dissim takes the shot from the point, but blocked by Tooyaleon. Khoury nabs the puck along the boards and sends a pass to Dissim. With only one minute left in the third, Dissim slaps a shot just wide of the net back to Visions stick who takes a monstourous shot that goes off the mask of Uraczak and back to Dissim who slips it past the dazed goaltender, giving the Omega’s the lead, 5-4.
Behind by one, and time against them, the Dynamo’s would pull Uraczak hoping 42 seconds would be enough to get the game tied. With the extra skater on the ice, and time quickly depleting, Derek Harland fires a shot from the paint into the glove of Sanchez. Sanchez goes down to cover the puck, but Scorpius and Dakseus are waiting on the doorstop. Hacking away at the glove of Sanchez, Dakseus picks up the loose puck wrists it home and to once again tie up the game 5 all. The clock would run out, and we would find ourselves in a deadlock. But be sure, both teams look to the next game to prove their dominance.
