Editor’s Notes: After the Introductory piece last week, today's edition brings the first in Azazel Romanov's series on the Evolution of US Political Parties.
Evolution of Political Parties: United States Workers Party

Before people potentially point out that this might be biased, I'm simply wanting to give the history of politics in the eUS. The best way to do that is by starting with the oldest and still existing Party in the country, the United States Workers Party. While this may not be the first political Party in the United States, they have definitely stood the test of time, despite sometimes being misplaced, merged, or moved around.
They’ve definitely kept the spirit of the Party from start to finish, or I guess continuation. The Party is so old that its not even clear who the first Party President was, dating back all the way to 2007, which is also the first year USWP held the Presidency with Roby Petric. He was a Croatian player and actually quit when V1 started up as a protest to the fact that Croatia was not added to the game. That's right. The USWP is older than Croatia. And V1, V2, V1.5, or whatever version of eRepublik we are currently playing. The USWP is technically (although I'm not sure this is used anymore) governed by a Constitution that is a testament to the amount of roleplay that used to go on in eRepublik before the great decline.
Through active recruiting and drive, the USWP became the eUS's largest Party until about 2009 to 2010, and at the time, was also the largest political Party in the entire world. This was before the full rise of several Balkan States, including one we love to hate. The USWP fully cemented their status as a leader during the terms of President Scrabman, the second President to come from their ranks, who went on to serve for about three terms (one following the impeachment of Uncle Sam and two elected terms after). Since then, the USWP has continued to bring their candidates into the Executive more so than any other Party. This is partly due to its prominence and longevity, and partly due to its holding many great individuals. Overall, the USWP has had about 20 different people serve as President of the country. The most recent President to hail from the USWP was Wild Owl, who still holds the reins on our foreign affairs and is doing quite an amazing job.
The USWP may pride themselves on elitism, but to be honest, they are one of the only Parties that can boast those kinds of accomplishments or history. The Federalist Party also has longevity, but its time in the Top 5 and as #1 is still relatively recent (for most of its history, the Feds were the most prominent and successful 6th parties, the closest current comparison being the Socialist Freedom Party).
But even the USWP has had its falls or changes. Many people don't know about the American Progressive Front, which for a time absorbed the USWP and the remains of two other parties. This was one of the first party mergers to incorporate so many different personalities from the Top 5 Parties, and the USWP briefly vanished only to come back later when the project collapsed.
They are also not without controversy, dating back to the USWP scandal in 2008 that now would seem quite tame to our present sensibilities. While not trying to sound promotive, the USWP represents a lot about the United States. Even with its downs, it has stood the test of time to continue fighting and providing. All Parties in this country strive to immortalize themselves somehow, and a lot of them fail to accomplish this feat. So far, USWP has proven itself as an immortal, or at least until the game ends. And in the end, all we are trying to do is become a part of history.

Ireland has made a heroic last stand in Corki, securing what would have been the wiping blow to their empire! Now Ireland is about to attack. Don't count your chickens, yet, China. Get em lads!
Finland and Estonia have entered their 36th battle of the war. Estonia had been enjoying an advantage in the MPP battles, while Finland was able to RW regions. Now Finland has taken the upper hand in the MPP battles. Finland is at a hefty seven regions to Estonia's four. How much longer can this war go without someone being wiped? Honestly, I'd put money down on indefinitely. If this isn't a training war like Sweden/Lithuania's, it should be.
Romania has attacked Bulgaria for the blah blah blah blah blah, don't care, boring as as fu**. Now they are blah blah, still don't care, never will care, blah blah blah blah blah, the War to end all Wars, blah blah blah blah.
So, Turkey has been doing some work on Iran and all of the sudden Iran secured a region, wtf?!? Turkey has still won six of the eight battles in the war, but Iran is about to attack. That just seems wrong, but stranger things have happened in erepublik.
The last time Iran and Russia had a war, it was a land swap. I'd wager the same is happening again. Stay tuned for any developments.
Mexico is fighting, valiantly against Columbia, but they are just not getting the upper hand in the War. Columbia has won five of six battles in this latest war, and are about to win a sixth. The good thing is Mexico is safely hidden in Baja. Let's see if Columbia has the cojones to attack the US, if they finish off Mexico.

I would think that the USWP disappearing into the APF even for a single day would break the longevity of the USWP and make the FEDS the longest 'continuous ' party in America.

The FEDS are old and they still exist and they have never merged and changed their name so....
Technically the party occupied by WTP is the "oldest" as it's Party 19 - one of the first 20 political parties in eRep.

Yeah as a 2x PP of USWP, and a member of the Executive Board I think I have a better idea of what goes on in my party. Disagreements occur, but we do not make them public for the most part, as we like being a successful party.
