[Kemal Ergenekon] Why is Kanadia a Failed State?

Day 2,296, 22:18 Published in USA USA by Aeriadne

Dear readership,
I take a moment from the usual tripe to publish an article from a friend of mine. His name is Kemal, and he's a bit awesome. Due to his Cypriot citizenship, Kemal could not publish this article in his own paper (which you should read and sub) and reach the sort of exposure it might otherwise deserve, thus it being here.

Without further ado, the article.

Why is Kanadia a Failed State?

Fellow eAmericans and snow-loving Kanadians,

I decided to write this article after suffering through many articles and comments in the media regarding the relations between eUS and eCanada. I am usually only deeply irritated when I see racist commentary and hatred based on RL prejudices. It was therefore quite a surprise to me that these comments have had a similar effect, encouraging me to write this article. Apparently, at its extremes ineptitude and ignorance is indistinguishable from racism.

Let's have a broad look at the situation: eUS and eCanada are neighboring countries. eUS is significantly more powerful than eCanada, and this power difference was even more marked in the past. Both countries have enjoyed friendly relations for a long while, interrupted by brief episodes of enmity. The countries have acted together for a long while, fought side by side, swapped resources, etc.

It is also an undeniable fact that eCanada has had quite talentless administration historically. We have seen CPs stealing money from the government, corruption, lack of support of allies, attacking random countries only to be soundly defeated... so on and so forth. Although I am sure many eCanadians might disagree, most of the outside observers would agree with my conclusion that eCanada is not a very good ally. Despite all of this, eUS has been ready to help Canada most of the time and we stuck together through many alliances.

Now let's look at the experience of countries who find themselves in similar geopolitical circumstances: Weak countries neighboring strong ones. The examples I will look at are: Germany and France near Poland and Serbia, and Cyprus near Greece. What do all these countries have in common? Well, the answer is obvious: They are sporadically invaded and colonized by their stronger neighbors. Any peace between these countries is only possible through the smaller countries taking a minor position. Generally, the larger countries demand regions in exchange of no payment. In fact, even allowing the small countries to have congress elections is considered as sufficient payment.

How do these smaller countries deal with the problem? Well, firstly they acknowledge that they have to impose restraint on their actions and rhetoric. They understand that peace is not achievable as long as they hold the MPPs of the enemies of the stronger country. They understand that they cannot charge money for excess resources they have. They understand that they cannot provoke the stronger countries unnecessarily. All these restrictions actually serve to create a strong feedback mechanism that teaches the population to be experts in foreign policy.

Let me give some personal examples: Cyprus is a proud country. We do not accept everything Greece tries to impose on us. However, when they have a legitimate concern, we try to negotiate instead of outright refuse. For instance, Cyprus does not have MPPs with Bulgaria and FYROM. In theory, we could MPP these countries to have better protection against Greece. However MPPs work both ways. They can also be used to open a second front against Greece. This is a legitimate concern, so during the negotiations, we generally accept not to MPP these countries. In return, Greece makes some compromises.

This doesn't always work. Sometimes a government that hates Cyprus comes into power. You cannot really negotiate in these cases; the government refuses to even talk about peace, and tries to invade no matter what. What do we do in this case? Do we troll the hell out of them? Do we insult even the Greek players who prefer an independent Cyprus? Do we MPP the enemies of Greece and accuse Greece for this choice?

There have been instances for both of the scenarios to play out. When we reacted as Canadians now do, we gained nothing. We were permanently deleted for many months. Not fun times, I can assure you. But when level-headed leaders took the charge, we tried to reach the level-headed players on the other side. We did not beg. We did not accept humiliation. Instead of this, we rationally explained why an independent Cyprus is in the best interests of Greece. We reminded them of the times we were allies. We convinced them that we could actually have consistent foreign policy instead of erratic outlashes. In the end, it paid off. We achieved peace, up until one of our less level-headed presidents signed an agreement and broke it by himself the next day xdxd. That taught us who we ought to trust with executive power.

Long story short, if you are a weak country neighboring a strong country, you have to be more careful. Blind rage earns you nothing. Reaching out to reasonable people on the other side earns you everything. In some way, you are forced to learn realpolitik in action. Even when you attack an irrelevant country, you always think of whether your neighbors would intervene. Trust me, having dedicated Greek MUs against your country is not a fate you wish to experience.

Let's come back to the Canadian experience. Let me tell you: You are incredibly lucky to be a neighbor of eUS. Even though you were not a reliable ally, and even though you were weak in comparison, eUS never treated you like Serbia treats Germany/France or Greece treats Cyprus. This is because of the good-hearted players in eUS. Recall Evry's term: When eUS attacked Canada, not just eUS MUs, but *government funded eUS MUs* ignored the orders and fought for you. This is something that doesn't happen anywhere else in the eWorld. You were *saved* because of eUS players, yes, the ones you now insult continuously and the ones you provoke with your MPPs.

Let's come forward to the current point in time. Recently, you have (1)attacked eUK, and therefore Spoland (2)ignored the fact that they were our allies and did not even consult with eUS (3) after defeat, you MPP'd Serbia, the sworn enemy of eUS.

Now, some people claim that eUS did not accept Canada into the alliance. Well, I am not privy to the details, and you are free to publish logs of conversations to prove this. Until that time, I will just consider it as cheap talk. But in any case, I do not believe in all honesty that you would be denied membership unless you tried to dictate unreasonable terms. But let's suppose for a moment that you are right. Let's suppose that eUS government really sold you out, and prevented you from getting in the new alliance. What would be the correct answer?

The correct answer would be to try to reach more level-headed players in eUS. It would be to maintain peace-fostering dialogue. You know that eUS players have fought against their government to save your asses in the past. So you should have just waited it out and tried to change the status quo. Referring to the Cyprus example, you should have tried to contact the rational players on the other side so that peace could be established again.

What did you do? You entered the enemy alliance and MPP'd the sworn enemy of eUS. Some Canadians claim that this is the same thing as eUS making an alliance with Spoland. I haven't heard a more ludicrous statement! Serbia and eUS are enemies like Greece and FYROM are enemies. You cannot even compare the two. Serbs hate eAmericans for real life reasons, and have admitted to this themselves. They hate eAmerican players, motivated by the RL events, the NATO intervention in Kosovo, Bosnia, etc. And they don't just hate us. They have hurt us more than any nation can in this game. They have PTO'd our country. They let in hundreds of illegals. They rigged our elections. They have at one point controlled more than one third of the Congress, disrupting impeachment and natural enemy laws. They have operated countless multiaccounts against us. They have caused us to adopt a low-bonus strategy for months on so that they do not succeed in overtaking the country. They have forced us into using unity elections in CP elections, creating hundreds of problems and deep griefs among our players. They wasted thousands of hours of our active players who organized ATO processes. TRUST ME, NOTHING CAN BE COMPARED TO THIS. Even not having regions and a congress is better. I would know. I experienced both for months.

In short, you should stop hurting yourselves with bad decisions. You should learn to control your impulsive actions and act rationally. You should think of the long term. Do you feel slighted? The answer is not to lash back. The answer is not spitting in the faces of all your friends in eUS by MPP'ing Serbia. The answer is not insulting eAmericans and calling them names, even those who try to reach out.

The answer is to understand your situation, think for a bit, and act wisely. The answer is to learn to be a good neighbor and a good ally. The answer is to learn to keep bad and mercurial politicians out of positions of power. In the end, only you can help yourselves. Lashing out blindly is not honor, it is just stupidity that will lead to certain failure.

This is for your own sake. My 2 cents...

Best regards,
Kemal Ergenekon
