150th Anniversary of Gettysburg: The South Will Rise Again!
Ronald Gipper Reagan
July 1st-3rd marks the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. It was a battle that marked the turning point in the American Civil War and led to the very unfortunate result of the war. While there were honorable men on both sides, I personally feel that the Confederate cause was a just one. It was very similar to the American Revolutionary War, except unfortunately the wrong side prevailed this time around.
Everyone should walk the hollowed grounds of Gettysburg at some point. Nearly 8,000 men lost their lives there over the course of three days, and there were over 46,000 total casualties. It was the bloodiest battle ever to be fought in North America and one which altered the destiny of the nation, and the entire world.
There are too many details for me to post on here, but for those of you unfamiliar with this battle, or the war, I encourage you to research it. Men like Robert E. Lee fought to protect their homes and their rights, not for the nonsensical reason that revisionist historians try to say, but as we all know, the winners get to write the history books. With everything that is going on in today's world, we can only hope that there are enough courageous men who will do what is necessary, even if it means dividing a nation to save as much of it as can be saved.
In a lot of ways you can draw a parallel to the Civil War and the eUSA Civil War. Our enemies buy more gold, and they have greater numbers, but we have higher quality leaders and soldiers on our side, and we have the knowledge of knowing that our cause is a just and righteous one. Whatever the outcome may be, it is always the duty of honorable men to fight for what they believe in. You should never do less.

The south might rise again....and we'll beat them back down where they belong.
Documents from the time period show that the south used fear of the free black man and interracial marriage/relations to browbeat potential states into joining the Confederacy.
Say w/e the eff you want, but just know that you are wrong if you think that slavery was not the driving force behind the Civil War.
Not saying I agree with RGR because slavery is definitely wrong, but slavery wasn't actually the driving force of the Civil War. The Civil War was, and I quote from Lincoln, "a war to preserve the Union". The original goal of the civil war was simply to preserve the union. The goal to end slavery was introduced after Antietam when the Union armies gained momentum against the Confederacy.
Lincoln's goal was indeed to preserve the union. He abhorred slavery. Lincoln's war goals, once it began, are not to be confounded with the causes of war. These are complex but the issue of slavery is central on all accounts. Contemporaries, from North and South, saw it that way only disagreeing about just how its influence was played out. Almost a century later we see the revisionist theories and the happy Sambo. When Elkins published his seminal "Slavery" no reasonable historian would have suggested that the economic/ legal/social, institution of slavery were minor irritants. States' rights meant the right to continue our special institution and to see it expanded into new territory.
There were certainly many, Lincoln and Lee amongst them, who fought the war with a view to preserving states rights or the Union. But that has to do with "why I fight" not "why it started". I am mindful of that distinction and the myriad instances of it including, from more modern times: we went to war because of the invasion of Poland - we fought the war for different reasons - when the war was over, Poland's freedom wasn't that important after all.
That would be great if Lincoln started the war, alas he did not, so his words mean little in determining the factors bringing about the onset of the conflict.
As far as I am aware you are correct re: Lincoln's goals, that just isn't the point I am getting at.
Also from a history-teacher in training, slavery was the main problem. He stated that is was the problem, he used the preserve the union because at the time the union was not going to fight for slaves, so used that term to inspire them.

You have repeatedly said that members of the US armed forces serve without honour. You insist that the New York sergeant who dies overseas, leaving a widow and 2 orphans, does so without honour. Losing limbs in service of the USA is without honour, putting your life at risk to defend the USA is without honour and wearing the uniform is without honour. But playing an online browser game... now there is real honour. Advocating armed succession in the present day USA.... that is your brand of honour. Really?
secession, not succession, learn English.
qutie right. I will try to improve.
Voted for showing how to accept constructive criticism (even when said criticism is an evasive means of avoiding everything else said).

Robert E Lee, the man who ordered a charge across an open field at a fortified hilltop was a great general?
huehuehuehuehuehue :3
I don't really feel sorry for Lee on that one. I feel more sorry for Pickett. Guy had to watch thousands of men at his command die for some suicide mission.
I do not feel sorry for either.
Pickett's charge and Malvern Hill...both bloodbaths. Assault over open ground on entrenched high positions often is. And there have been thousands of them including .....the Normandy landings etc etc etc. Lee was a fine general and a finer human being. It is disquieting that Ajay attempts to attach himself to that great man's virtues. Mind you they both had very good spelling.
I feel sorry for longtree too (his 2nd in command) he had a great idea of moving over to another hill near by and fortfying themselves there and force the north to attack.
rofl, longtree? XD. You meanLONGSTREET. Fail.
You're not even from the south...
LOL, no wonder your party wanted to enslave the eUSA,,, Because you are Confederate... Talk about freedom, lol...
I learn to hate you more every day
