[ULA] Congress Work

Day 2,017, 05:43 Published in Belgium Belgium by MCKitkat

Good morning eBelgium, as a first act since our creation, see here, we would like to inform you about the current votes and debates in our Congress.

Why ? Well, because it is our duty to inform every citizen about the actions of their representatives

A vote, started on 27th May 2013, to appoint 3 temporary justices was accepted with :

Yes: 10
No: 2
Abstain: 3

Wait what temporary justices ? What’s that ?

As you may not know, eBelgium has a Supreme Court, which is similar to our courts in Real-Life. The Supreme Court, abbreviated SC, reviews cases brought to them by citizens. An example is if a law is unclear and thus a higher force has to give the right meaning of the law.
The Supreme Court has 3 judges, which are elected for 3 months.

In this case, the judges have themselves broken the law as they can’t review a case where they are involved. To review this case, congress elected three temporary judges who will try to make a ruling in this particular case. Their mission ends when the case is completed.

On the same day, another vote was started to elect the Chairman of Congress. 2 citizens were candidates, Konrad Neumann and Stijn Puttemans. In the end Stijn won the vote and was appointed Chairman of Congress until the next congress elections.

Konrad
Yes : 9
No: 2
Abstain: 4

Stijn
Yes: 15
No: 0
Abstain: 0

The Chairman of Congress, usually referred to as CoC, is the president of the Congress. He gives you your Congress mask if you were elected Congress Member. This mask allows you to vote and see the private Congress section. The CoC closes the votes and writes the voted law into the Law-book. He is the moderator of the congress part, except the debate Area which is accessible for every person registered in our forums.

Yesterday, 28th May 2013, a vote was started to change the Income Tax from 6 % to 1 %. It was rejected with:

Yes: 5
No: 9
Abstain: 3

What is the Income Tax, and what would have been the changes ?

The Income Tax is the amount of money which is deducted from your salary.

Example: You earn $5.00 wage, the income tax is 5%, then you would receive $4.75.

Let’s take MaryamQ’s explanation which resumes everything:

"Have you actually looked at the job market? The top salary being offered at present is 4.50 BEF. A change from 6% to 1% income tax makes a change of less than 0.23 BEF per day, which is the equivalent of 10-15 health in food (only enough to work), or half of one Q1 weapon. Citizens are far better off leaving the tax as it is and to use the new citizen packs, which provide much more at the expense of the state."

The ULA did not support the change because we think that the change would not help at all. The ULA prefers to see an increase of the citizen packs or the ABC supplies then this small change.

Join us, join ULA for change, for real change and lots of fun 🙂
