Desperate Belgians Seek not Peace but Survival

Day 1,585, 15:06 Published in Netherlands Belgium by Konrad Neumann

Reading the eBE media (not too much articles) there were are a few articles about the war between our two countries. After reading the articles, I conclude that peace is not what they seek but survival. While it is hard to fault them for seeking survival and a congress election, but if you look at the media in the past week, their tone and content varies solely base on the results of battles.

Let's look at President Goopy's articles.

His first article on day 1576.

The Dutch War of Aggression ("War of the Beers") is an unprovoked and senseless attack against our people and our sovereignty.

As we fight to liberate our regions from our misguided northern neighbors, take heart in the knowledge that eBelgium remains defiant. So fight with pride in our chocolate, with the strength of our waffles, and steadfast in the knowledge that our beer will be victorious!

It starts out pretty neutral and uneventful. They use some moralistic language but still rather plain and sedated. The comments to the articles are your basic salutes and nothing more.

The day 1577 article resulted in the same result. Basic message of save your energy bars and rockets etc with no drama. During this time he is signing MPP's like there is no tomorrow, wanting to conquer eNL for the war they started. What better things to do than to humiliate the Dutch for starting a war that they cannot finish.

On day 1579 things are different. Goopy's article tells the Belgians to fight with great passion and energy.

Greetings fellow eBelgians,

Today we take this war to the eNetherlands, fighting for the first time on eDutch soil! Fight with our frites cannon safe behind your waffle-shield! Fight for chocolate mooses everywhere! Fight for beer!

As always, I'd ask that you save your resources (energy bars and bazookas) for the time being.

Later that day he wrote this article as well.

Greetings fellow eBelgians,

Southern Netherlands is now under eBelgian control. We do this, not for imperial aggrandizement or out of petty revenge, but to better secure our home territories and to force the eNetherland's CP into peace negotiations. If the angry cries of eBelgians watching eDutch soldiers invading eBE (twice) isn't enough to open a dialogue, perhaps the closing of all the "coffee" shops in Southern Netherlands will force him to act.

Feeling of pride and a bit of arrogance Goopy unleash moralistic language. Thinking he has the upper hand, he evokes that he is not like Dutch who does things for "imperial aggrandizement" and not "petty revenge" but for purely security and defense. But he send the follow to President Auggustus.

"Leader of the eNetherlands:

Your misguided and fruitless attempt to subjugate the lands of the peace-loving eBelgian people has failed. With the help of generous and noble citizens from around the globe and through the tireless efforts of the eBelgian people, we have shown that we can defeat your forces in open conflict.

We now stand on the brink of taking the war to your home territories.

Your warmongering has become an embarrassment to you and your country..You gain nothing but the ridicule of the wider community by continuing and an ever-building resentment of the eBelgian people.

However, the eBelgian people are as magnanimous in victory as they are steadfast in defiance. I therefore offer the following terms for an armistice:

First, you take personal responsibility for initiating the conflict and publicly apologize to the eBelgian people.

Secondly, you inform your allies that any perceived shift in the global affiliation of eBelgium is solely due to this conflict, and that the eBelgian people remain proudly committed to neutrality.

Thirdly, the eNetherlands congress provide reparations in the amount of 391 gold, the sum we graciously sent in friendship, funds that were stolen by persons unknown from your treasury, funds we had no obligation to donate but did so out of kindness.

Fourth, that the territory of Southern Netherlands be ceded to eBelgium for a term ending the day following the next congressional election, and your people make no effort to resist our justified occupation. Following CM elections, the continued occupation can be negotiated by our respective congresses.

Fifth, and most importantly, that your congress pass a resolution acknowledging that eBelgian beer is the superior beer.

I await your reply."

If Goopy was experienced, he would not ask for suck a silly treaty. He used moralistic language like warmongering thinking he has the upper hand. In Goopy's mind, the Dutch have no option but to submit. Goopy and the Belgians thinks the war is over and their optimism runs rampant.

When the Dutch government rejects Goopy's silly treaty and with US support strike even harder, he responded

I am embarrassed and ashamed that as a CP I have the same title as the megalomanic leader of eNetherlands. His actions bring disrepute to all who share that title, sullying what should be an honor and a privilege, to serve the people of your country.

Instead, the eNetherlands CP has shown that even crazed dictators can be elected to lead a formerly rational country.

And that saddens me.

Earlier today I offered a "white" peace treaty through unofficial channels… a return to pre-war borders, an immediate cessation of hostilities, and terms that included neither side admitting fault. The offer was genuine and I had informed our congress to prepare to end the war.

My offer of Status quo ante bellum was rejected. But not just a polite "No", or even what could be considered reasonable terms, but a direct insult to the eBelgian people.

Desperation is starting to set in. Since he cannot control the events in foreign affairs, he as CP has to look strong and in command in front of his constituency. There is no better way to do so than to demonize their rivals. Auggy is "magalomanic." You are ashamed to be called CP since he too is a CP. He tries to portray Auggy as the madman of the Netherlands. [sarcasm] Great diplomatic skill from Goopy.[/sacasm] If peace via diplomacy is Goopy's main goal, why trash talk Auggy? Also why add more fuel to the fire. Does this type of talk help promote common understanding or enflames things. The only purpose of Goopy's article is to fire up his base and to make them feel like he feels. Anger that the Dutch took away a simple Presidency and made his work difficult and hard. Also this is a distraction of his faults like the treaty fiasco and to focus the people of an "injustice." Blame everything on the Dutch.

Base on the comments and attitude of the common Belgians, Goopy was successful. Following the Myth of Belgium, when things goes wrong, they retreat more and more to it. The population does not look at the administrative errors of eBE and began to use more moralistic languages. The words "backstab" are used more and more. "You are pushing towards ONE" was used as well. A few days before our counter-attack when the Belgians are on the offensive, they were using words like " Fight with our frites cannon," Death to heineken! Leffe will prevail!" to " karma truly is a bitch." I agree with the last one and it is biting you back now.

By day 1581, Belgian congress is at stake. Goopy pushed for white peace

The People of eBelgium want peace.

The People of eBelgium want to end this destructive conflict. The People of eBelgium have offered and continue to offer fair and just peace terms, only to have them ignored and misreported.

The current terms, and the terms for the last two days as were told to your CP and soundly rebuke😛

1. An end to hostilities
2. eNL recaptures its home territories through RWs unopposed by eBelgium
3. An in-game peace treaty
4. A formal peace treaty ending the conflict

Both sides get a full congress and their native production bonuses. No reparations, no concessions, just peace.

Those are the terms I offered previously, and they still stand.

President of eBelgium

What happened to the grande mission? What about teaching the Dutch a lesson of Belgian "neutrality" and the pride in Belgian beers. Now Goopy is acting purely on pragmatism. If he does not get peace now, he might not get a congress. Desperation is the main motive for peace. For we saw who Goopy is, the main goal in the beginning was to humiliate and neuter the Netherlands. With that dream dead and the reverse is happening, he wants peace to survive.

The idea is repeated in day 1587 article

Note the change in tone. From NL and Auggy bashing "magalomanic" etc to let us work for peace. Desperation!

The same can be said about another writer who is getting a lot of attention in the Belgian media. Karakoran's first article The War of Dutch Aggression was a normal analysis and a casual appeal to the Dutch people. His second article eBelgium is a Neutral Nation which still have a neutral tone but more active than the first. It is a lecture on how eBe is "neutral." The third and last article which took place at the time when the Belgians are on the offensive took place is titled eBelgium Invades the eNetherlands. In that article he wrote the following

One week ago, we were betrayed. The forces of the Dutch came rolling from the North in an act of pure imperialistic terror. We hardly saw it coming, in eBelgium. After all, we had always done right by the eNetherlands. We merely expected they'd have the same sense of decency.

But instead they hit us like a wave.
And we beat them back.

Their invasion was a failure. The few successes they had in the earlier parts of this war were attributed only to the element of surprise they gained through betraying us. In the end, everything they used to harm us has been turned against them.

Now, the knife is pointed the other way. Instead of us fearing them, they will be made to fear us. As I type this, Belgian forces pour over the border. Southern Netherlands is falling to us. And this...

This is just the beginning.

We wont be stopped until every sacrifice is re-payed by the Dutch. We wont be stopped until our demands are met and our people are satisfied. We wont be stopped until justice has been served.

So go help that justice.

When things goes well they use moralistic language to justify their deeds. They want to embarrass and humiliate the Dutch. They want us to fear them. They think they can take all of the Netherlands for their own. "Southern Netherlands is falling to us. And this... This is just the beginning." Karakoran fails to mention that this is the beginning of Belgian arrogance and inexperience which lead to mistakes in the leadership and the perception of the war causing problems for the Belgians now.

We can learn a lot from the Belgians. They are a warning to us all. The lesson here is that while we are winning the battles and have the upper hand, the Dutch should not be too hubris as the Belgians. They should also not overreach with their war and their demands. The Belgians did not "win" with dignity and now they are paying for it. I am happy that we have wise leaders that will grant the Belgians a congress in the coming election. While it is understandable that the Belgians are angry at the Netherlands, we do not seek to embarrass them. Overconfidence is weakness. We should look at the failures of our rivals and learn from them. Both sides made mistakes in this war. It is ok to make these mistakes. But one must learn from it. While the war might be a burden to Belgium, I think this brought them more good than harm. It gave them unity and a purpose. More importantly, it teach them firsthand, the realities of a somewhat more "threatening war".
