WHPR 1545 - President's Weekend Address
James S. Brady Press Room
President Oblige speaks directly to the American people. music
Dateline: Sunday, February 12, 2012 (Day 1545)
Location: White House Press Room
Today's Agenda: A Few Words
My dear friends,
Our eUS population is comprised of many players from all across the RL world who choose to play as Americans. Just as in RL, our game America beckons to the world, "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free..."
Our eNation is, indeed, a "melting pot" in which players of every RL nationality and culture seek freedom and strength, where we may retain and celebrate our individualism while uniting under a single banner and fighting for a common cause.
We are playing a game, and as in any game the object is to win. eRepublik is designed so there cannot be an end, an actual winner, but as a journey in which we gain and advance both ourselves and our eNation.
We play as a team, Team USA. And the eUS as a whole is a member of a team, the joint Terra and Eden alliances.
The eUS currently enjoys the economic benefits of the 100/100 Resource Bonus and the respect of its alliance partners. Both are possible because we, Team USA, have been helped by our Alliance partners. Team USA, in return, helps our Terra/Eden alliance partners in battles to gain regions, securing Resources which help their economies, which in turn helps build individual and national strength among our allies. Ultimately, this makes the alliance stronger and our enemies weaker.
Land swaps are less common these days but are still utilized as a means to an end. The US has in the past attempted to give regions to Canada, like Michigan and Minnesota where we have totally extra Grain resources. Even with Canada's UK holdings, they still lack this basic element of economical Food production.
This weekend saw another failed attempt for the US to assist an alliance partner, this time Croatia, to gain resource regions vital to that nation's economic and military strength.
Of course, our enemies will pour fighters into these battles to prevent the strengthening of our allies. They must weigh the balance against diverting fighters from other priority offense and defense battles.
What is discomforting-- in addition to Admins fouling Operation Asian Dream with technical ineptitude-- is seeing American citizens fighting against these efforts to strengthen allies, presumably because they simply see an attack on American soil and feel compelled to defend their eNation.
eAmericans must remember that this is a game, not reality, and our strength does not lie in maintaining occupation of all our original regions but in maintaining the respect and support of our game alliance partners.
When eAmericans ignore the DoD orders and the information provided by this newspaper and other authoritative sources, and wreck mutually planned and agreed upon land swaps, we undermine the strength of our allies and we undermine the respect and support they give us.
Five of the ten resources comprising our 100/100 Resource Bonus come by holding regions originally belonging to other nations. We would not have these vital resources without the assistance of our allies. The government and citizens of France help the US retain possession of French regions. Our allies help the US retain possession of key Mexican and Spanish regions. We would not be able to do this without allied help.
We have extra of several resources, and it is our duty as alliance partners to return the investment our friends make in us. There is no advantage in our holding these surplus resource regions, and great disadvantage in the shortsighted and uninformed patriotism which refuses to help our alliance partners.
As important as natural resources are strategic holdings. Very often allies or even friendly non-allies will hold choke point regions or form a buffer against a more aggressive enemy.
I implore all eAmericans to follow the instructions of our leadership team, well publicized in this newspaper as well as the DoD and other authoritative newspapers, and not play this game as individuals when it comes to where and when to fight.
Our eNation is strong due to the constant investment of our friends and allies. We must return that investment or risk losing their respect and support, and the very strength and stability we now enjoy.

Looking good!
Voted.
nice work there.
Awesome!
The key is to get the lumpenmasses to go along with the agreements made at the top levels. Many just follow their daily orders set in their MU's. As long as those are not set against the objectives (as I have seen happen more than once), we should be able to ensure that the objectives are met.
Voted for FDR.
I completely agree with this article. eCanada has fought every time eUS need us. More than once, we put our eNation in risk to defend our bros. Even ePoland fear our joint might (with the help of the other EDEN/Terra nations). Would be nice a land-swap that allow eCanada have full food bonus to be more productive and stronger. Terra/EDEN power is based on team work. ONE failed because of selfishness of their biggest powers. Our strength is our brotherhood!
Thank's Bros!
tl;dr
Well said Mr.President 😛
It's important to follow DoD orders. It doesn't take long to read, and it helps you get a better understanding of what battles are going on and why (i.e the recent landswap).
Well stated and well taken.
Though I disagreed with the timing and strategy regarding 'Asian Dream' I am not opposed to region swapping conceptually; I am merely of the opinion that such national endeavors receive their well-deserved national discourse.
Land swapping was tricky even back in V1 when the eUSA was more or less homogeneous in composition; with our modern diversity such topics require consensus in order to be successful.
@General Cartman Lee: You of all people should read it, and then engage in the discussion sans all that 'sound and fury'
Yes. Team USA -I would have liked Team America better- but I agree totally with this article and President Oblige's stance in relation to our Allies. Until recently America has not always been -forgive the pun- an obliging Alliance Member. America is the melting pot of RL and it is in eRepublik also, we must become a world leader who does not abandon it's allies like Poland and Serbia have abandoned it's ONE allies.
USA...USA...USA....
Totally agree with the tone and substance of this article as well, Mr. President.
As a member of the Civilian military unit, I do remember that there were two significant wars we were in at that time. Many allied resources were exhausted (unsuccessfully) to help Russia keep Mazuria, and we were down 4-zip against Spain in yet another Asturias RW (which we still won).
I believe that the only way a member of a military unit can choose a side in battle without changing locations is if that battle is part of the Daily Order. I tried entering the eUS/Phippines fight, but I was defaulted to fight for our side. There's a slight chance that some citizens chose the correct fight, but didn't investigate the game mechanics when they hit the field.
If we are to try this type of action again, we may need to dedicate our military might against against the uninformed via the Daily Order. We did something similar in Galicia* and it was a rousing success. I believe this objective warrants it, even if we do temporarily lose a region we can easily get back.
* Still waiting to hear "Screw you guys, I'm going home!"
Nice article. Congratulations
I appreciate the speech for unity, and am all for the land swap if it means better alliances.
However, I would like to hear more on what we will do for ePhilippines now that they are eChina and eIndonesia.
Just like in real life eUSA is the number one nation in the world.
hmm this is the first time i ever read this thing. read a couple of words of it of it. ill read the rest later maybe.
Voted.
stay mellow yellow...
Nice
I will cut you!
