Quin2k's Resignation and Ariel's Poor Reporting?
Swagger McSwag
In response to Quin2k's needlessly bombastic resignation from the Philippine Press Club, his assertions of my biased and "poor reporting efforts", may I make the following statements and clarifying remarks:
Was Quin2k correct in his assertion that my article was biased?
Well, yes, he's correct. It was biased, to the degree which it had only one source, namely, the President of the Republic of the Philippines.
In my defense, though, I did not editorialize the article, but just repeated what I was told, as any good reporter should do. But, anyway...
Could I have done better?
Yes. It was my original intention to get the input of as many people as I could, including Quin2k, Nikko_33, and even SoulSalvage himself, while creating said article. But I failed to do so.
For this, I apologize... to myself, and to those who expect more of me, and to those whom I may have disappointed or done a disservice in any way (especially the members of the Club), with the exclusion of SoulSalvage whom I meant to do a disservice all along.
😃
Of course, my busy Real Life, coupled with the President's request to get an article published as soon as I could (and, really, why argue with the President?), did not permit me to do as I had originally intended. But, of course, this is not a proper excuse and that's why I still apologize.
I promise I will try to be a better reporter, and will always strive to get either side of the story whenever I write "news" (and YOU should too).
I am only human. I've written well over 200 hundred articles for The Outsider since it first began publishing, as Quin2k himself has attested to. At least one of them is bound to be a little off-target.
Besides, while I failed to get SoulSalvage's side of this story, I, at best, expected that, with said article, we'd be able to "smoke him out of his cave" and give him a chance to make a statement of his own, however ridiculous. Which he did. Thus: http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/well-guys--1063776/1/20

Now, Quin2k
While I cannot think of any reason why I should give you a special apology, other than what I had already given, I do regret your decision to leave the Club.
Frankly, I think it was the wrong decision. If you had wanted to "encourage [me] and the PPC to not just 'promote journalism in the Philippines' but promote QUALITY, unbiased, and ethical journalism" as you so claim, then what better way to do so than from within the organization? We don't have our own Google Group for nothing.
An even worse decision, in my opinion, was that of you publicly announcing your resignation from the Club, something, which, if you were really intent on doing, could be peacefully and privately arranged between two gentlemen like ourselves, rather than elevating the whole affair - really, a slight altercation in the grand scheme of things by my estimation - to the scrutiny of the masses, as you have chosen to do.
Nonetheless, I harbor no ill will towards you, and, if you will but overlook my trifling imprudence on this one matter, then I bid that you come back to the Club for you have such great potential and I dearly want to help you.
This is my standing invitation. We will welcome you with open arms. I have spoken.
Signed,
xoxo
Ariel

Well, I'll admit I didn't intend to stir up quite so much controversy, but given the circumstances I feel the result was fair.
In the real world, a newspaper is expected to publish a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clarification_%28journalism%29">clarification/http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Correction_%28newspaper%29">correction just as prominently as the original article, and while I only published one article in one country, I think it received enough attention to declare justice done.
That said, I think I'll wait for things to cool down before I consider rejoining PPC, though I appreciate the open invitation.
I am sorry it had to end like this, but I got no choice. The people of the ePhilippines had to know about the incident, and I instructed Ariel David Buena to write an article about it in his newspaper. This article is based on truth and it has not been altered in any way. Therefore it has presidential seal.
The other articles, on the other hand, are not written by my request. I am sorry for the matter, but I can't hold the fury of the ePhilippine media when it gets angry.
You, Slothen, have every right to be biased - and SoulSalvage deserves to get the fruits of his 'labor,' rotten as it may be - but the tactics used to get there are not journalistic and not ethical. It was a personal attack painted as news.
I am objecting to the calculating tactics and unbalanced reporting of a "Press" organization, not the end result of those actions. A similar (if slower and more ethical) method could have included publishing an official statement and notifying key newspapers in Israel, South Africa, and Canada - so THEY could scandalized it.
PPC chose to get its hands dirty; I chose to wash my hands.
I don't see what the problem with reporting a breach of trust as a breach of trust is. Just because it wasn't put down in a contract doesn't give someone the right to keep the company.
Even without a contract, I'm quite sure SoulSalvage knew that he wasn't supposed to keep the companies. So what's his excuse?
This is about calculatingly distributing 4 articles to 4 key countries roughly a week after the stolen property was returned, and roughly 2 weeks after the original occurrence; then claiming there was no time to get more then one side of the story for the articles in question.
If you want to know about SoulSalvage, http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/well-guys--1063776/1/20">go read his article.
I will not publish a correction or retraction. There is nothing factually inaccurate about that article.
The Philippine Press Club will, if it needs to, redeem itself in other ways.
Also, Quin2k, if I may, this is not the real world.
well my news reports then are always biased and am proud of it, hehe!
Well, he obviously isn't sorry about it even now so I don't see what the problem with reporting it "after the original occurrence" is.
Also, from what I've read, it's not like SoulSalvage returned them himself, so it's not like he's such a hero.
I am biased in a way that no one knows its biased. (huh?)
