[WTP] Census Report (July 2013)

Day 2,082, 13:33 Published in USA USA by Tanishq

Fellow citizens,

Today, as the head of WTP’s census department, I would like to present to you my monthly report on the party’s member status. This past month, like the month of June, party numbers fluctuated quite a bit due to ATO efforts. Unlike the previous month, however, July’s census data exhibited very different trends.

A quick caveat: if, while reading this article, you begin to experience any symptoms of tldr; syndrome, feel free to skip my walls of text and go for the essential information (graphs and bold print).

Now, before I get to the data, let me briefly explain our work, for those of you who are not familiar with our census department. In order to hold off-forum primaries, the WTP census department must record who joins and leaves the party so party leaders can create an accurate voting whitelist. There are a few restrictions as to who can vote; members must be in good standing with (i.e. not an enemy of) the party and have attained a minimum in-game level of 24 (see Bill 1) with comparable True Patriot progress (to prevent multis from skewing the election). Voters may appeal their status if they feel unfairly disqualified.

Though the primary function of the census list is to aid the voting process, the data collected can reveal a lot about the types of players who join and/or leave the party. Let’s take a look at the data for the month of July😘

Mmm... pie.

The total number of census entries at the end of July was three hundred ninety-three (393) for a net gain of one member over the previous month.

The member-classification distributions for both June and July are very similar (only a few percentage points apart), with most party enemies leaving WTP. The data shows a slight decline in the eligible-voter group and a 24% increase** in the number of new citizens in the party.

When we break the data down according to new census entries and archived census entries, however, we find stark contrast between the data distributions for the past two months; indeed, last month marks a complete reversal of the trends exhibited in the data for the month of June. Since we’re left with a limited, contradictory data set this month, then, I will refrain from making any definite conclusions about the types of players who join or leave the party.

Now without red!

As you can see, the majority of new WTP members last month were new players (those who did not meet the minimum level and/or TP requirements). In addition, no citizens who could be classified as party enemies joined.

Now take a look at the percentages expressed in the data analysis for July compared to that of the previous month:

Two pies walk into a bar...

The percentages for the month of July are almost exactly opposite of those for June. This reversal can be observed in the archived census entries group, as well.

...the bartender says, “Sorry, we don’t serve food.”

Another boring graph... Wait--don’t think that! Graphs are cool! Like bowties. And fezzes.

From the data, we can easily see how an increase in the number of new citizens joining the party during the month of July--combined with a sharp decrease in the number of new citizens leaving the party at the same time--produced a considerable overall gain in the number of new players in the party as a whole.

At this point, I think it’s worth pointing out that last month’s conclusion--that many members quit the game before reaching our minimum level requirement--isn’t necessarily invalidated by the data presented this month. While fewer new members left the party in July (compared to June’s departure rate), most new players leaving the party were either dead or dying citizens during both months.

In conclusion, a few minor trends can be observed from the data collected from the months of June and July. However, a vast inconsistency between the information collected during each period reveals a crucial need for more data in order to be able to determine any significant overall trends in the number of eligible and ineligible voters joining or leaving the party each month.

Let me know if you have any questions in the comments below!

Respectfully yours,
