[WRP] - A view from Parliament - Issue 36
Huey George
Introduction
A first 'A view from Parliament' of the new term and a chance for you, my constituents to review how I've spent my time representing you in Congress so far.
Please also contact me via personal message to discuss any Congressional issues or concerns you may have as it's your right and my duty to listen.
I've said it before however I'll say it again thank you to all those who supported the WRP, ESO and GBDP coalition for Congress.
Law Proposals and Votes
Country Donation
Do you agree to transfer 80085 GBP from the country accounts to NaN Headquarters?
I voted No. As I believe it was proposed in jest.
The vote ended;
9 YES votes to 34 NO votes
The Work Tax will be changed from 3% to 1%
I voted No. Once again I saw no reason to revoke the decision made by Congress only a week or so before. The benefits of this change in taxation never had a chance to be felt, members of Congress had proposed a few good ideas on how to distribute this wealth. It's a shame as the citizens of the UK who'd really benefit from some extra support from their government and in future create a stronger and brighter future for the UK as a whole missed out.
The vote ended;
27 YES votes to 19 NO votes
MPP
President of United Kingdom proposed a mutual protection pact with Estonia
I voted Yes. A potentially useful ally who in return could use the UK's support.
The vote ended;
29 YES votes to 4 NO votes in the UK
25 YES vote to 5 NO votes in Estonia
Speaker Vote
The results of the usual vote for the Speaker;
BigAnt - 9
ApronChef - 2
Abstain - 1
Hotfuz - 19
I cast my vote in favour of Hotfuz as I was impressed by his personal message to me.
Closing thoughts
I've hopefully given you an insight into how I've spent my time representing you in Congress so far... its been a fairly slow start so far however I expect to be busier soon.

This should enable a more intelligent dialogue on public issues to attract all citizens to take part. So I ask you to bear this in mind with your own contributions.

I too was a disappointed that congress didn't allow the WT to run on for a bit longer. I understand why players may have been opposed to an alteration but - as you said - a few good ideas were mooted and we could have at least given it a month to see what impact it'd have made.
It boosted the tax to pretty beautiful levels, would've been nice to see if it had carried on or now...
i do like how you have carried on always trying to show the every day people how Congress is going. Thanks and good luck 🙂
Thank you N W G, Best of luck to you too o/
I do enjoy reading your break downs of congress events.
This is my first round in congress and you are right in your summation of it being slow so far!
Voted as always! As someone that's no longer on the inside but occasionally curious, these articles are of great value 🙂

"The Work Tax will be changed from 3% to 1%
I voted No."
And you represent workers' right? You'd take more of their salary?
I dont mind being taxed higher as a worker, its how the tax revenue is spent that is of concern 🙂
Nothing stops you from donating cc to the state. However, tax increase is forced upon all workers.
The Tax increase was going to be used to help those who need it- It did not effect the new or poor players that need a helping hand, it would have only benefited them with discussed grants.
By all means, donate all of your salary to the state. Don't expect others to do the same. Workers should get salaries they deserve and do with their hard earned money what they wish. If you're fighting for their rights that is...
If i had a decent income i'd be sure to donate, however i don't. I do have some income- 3% of that is nothing to me, it is a minimal increase. 3% of the nations income however can go towards plenty of grants that will help struggling active players in the long run, if you want to be a fat cat all to yourself and not contribute to the country then fine, however i firmly believe a slight tax increase could help alot of people.
How would it help exactly? And someone giving 70cc as salary I wouldn't call a fat cat that doesn't contribute...
3% work tax really doesn't affect workers. With the 30cc wages at this point the work tax at 3% would take away 0.9cc.
Yeah, I'm sure new players in the UK wouldn't be able to survive with such a 'massive' amount out of their wages every day.
Less than minimal taxation as an infringement of a workers' rights is an interesting concept...I have to say it's a concept I consider incorrect personally
A co-operative state which everyone contributes an equal percentage is preferable to state which relies on donation.
In this way those who 'donate' to the state can not ask for 'more of say' or 'withhold donations' to hold the state to ransom.
When we all put more into our democratically elected Government and in return this Government supports those workers who require the most support it become glorious.
Also the average worker who works once for their employer and maybe a handful of time as WAM are largely unaffected as their increase contribution is fairly insignificant and the support they'll receive from the Government with counter-balance this in the long term.
It is those who choose to WAM in dozens of companies who taxed the most...therefore those with lots of companies will ultimately help contribute more to those without lots of companies.
However I thank you for your comments Sir Fartsalot it is always important to consider both sides of debates
I'm yet to hear an example of how the players are actually receiving help and what would they get with higher taxes.
The current taxation rates are in place to pay for MPPs and provide Training Ground loans.
While the 'devil was still in the detail' and with the successful re-established of a 1% meant all help schemes were killed off during conception.
An increase in taxation was likely to fund one or all of these schemes;
- Grants for WRM or FRM primarily Aluminium mines
- Loans for WRM or FRM primarily Aluminium mines
- Further funding to the MoD who then could from there issue loans for TGs, TG Contracts and perhaps weapons under a "Call To Arms" for middling to important battles.
Last term's Congress was a formidable hotpot of good ideas to support citizens once the taxation change bedded in and we could assess the extra money the taxation had brought in to decide who best to distribute it \o/
*how
Reverting the tax increases before the impact of them could be properly assessed was utterly ridiculous. Our congress is a joke.
🙂 Keeping up the good work, Hail Huey!
I like the article, vote!
Informative and useful.
