[World] War has changed

Day 1,357, 11:50 Published in Finland Denmark by Zacharia Raven
"War has changed. It's no longer about nations, ideologies or ethnicity. It's an endless series of proxy battles, fought by mercenaries and machines - - War has changed. When the battlefield is under total control, war... becomes routine"

- Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid 4

Not too long ago I remember logging to eRepublik and thinking myself: Ok, first I need to check the employees and work in my companies. Then I check the markets and sell my stuff. Tomorrow I can then focus on important resistance war, which needs some planning before rushing into it.

Today when I log to erepublik, I think: Now, how many kills to mercenary medal. It's no use working, because it wastes wellness. Employees have been fired two months ago.

We are heading towards a "application" game. Just push fight. Why? Because if you do it enough, you will get an achievement. When everyone can start a resistance war and 10 first will get a medal of it, there will be RW's everywhere with no strategy, no planning. Alliances will not matter anymore, because hunters of missions and medals will make sure, that RW's are successful almost every time.

And then the next wave of invasion comes, and it starts all over again. Mercenary medals lures people to ignore alliances, ignore all reason and fight in every possible war there is, no matter the side. Battles have illogical endings when giga-tanks come crushing without any interest in the outcome.

Political motivation will be non-existent. MoD's and CP's will try, but increasing appearance of medals and missions will keep all players running around like headless chickens, fighting with medals blinking in their eyes.

War has become a routine. We come, check what country we haven't fought in yet, travel there and fight. We don't have to care about the consequences. What is the worst we can do? Win a battle? There is another round. Win a campaign? There will be new RW or attack probably in 24 hours.

eRepublik is becoming a full-blooded war game. Political and economical modules will lose their meaning, like media module has. Gold is the only fuel for admins, and medals and missions for the players. If there is no medal or mission to be had, it's not worth fighting.

Admins could stop this progress, but it's unlikely. All these changes imply to economical struggle in erepublik administration. More money is needed. The losses must be great, considering the pace of updates lately.

What can be done?

Nothing , really. Erepublik is headed this way, and it will continue to do so, unless they find a millionaire who doesn't care about losing money and likes a great society simulator. If we want erepublik to stay alive, we bust buy gold, period. Micropayments are pop today. Another way could be a monthly fee, and mostly free content. But that type of funding MMO's is history.

If people quit, more pressure is on those who stay. If they feel the game's not worth it, they will leave too. In the end, erepublik will make bankrupt, and close.

This is just how it is. It's no use complaining about the methods of gathering the gold, because what we get is a result of ten brainstorms, and the ones that got axed at first are probably more terrifying that the ones that got passed.
