Having a little fun in the WHPR
I was looking at the United States’ MPP list yesterday, and something odd occurred to me. Nowhere, did I see a mention of a ONE country. This came as a bit of a shock to me, because I have been reading a lot of comments on the WHPR about how the country has been PTO’d, and we’re a member of ONE now. Something must be amiss, because clearly, everyone commenting about how our President has PTO’d us, must be correct, right?
Nope.
Turns out the American People don’t understand a little joke when they see one. Our newly elected President, Artela is British in real life. And she has a very lovely accent to prove it. I thought it would be a nice change of pace to introduce a little bit of the old country into the official press releases. I expected that some of the new players would be confused of course. But I never expected the amount of old, experienced players that just flat out, didn’t get it.
There is no PTO. We aren’t joining ONE. And as for Artela being a ONE tank? lol. She has gained 52,980,092 rank points since she has been an American. Hardly a ONE tank.
Fear not, we’re still the home of freedom, apple pie and the goddamn American Way.
Let’s try and remember that this is a browser game, and have some fun with it. OK?
Congress just being Congress
As was announced in the final edition of the BPPR, the United States signed a treaty with Spain. This was passed by our Congress. It was a narrow margin of victory (2 votes), but it did still pass. However, when the ingame Congress got their hands on it, the first step failed. While the United States certainly has egg on her face after this, we weren’t alone in our ineptitude. Spain also failed to pass the first part of the agreement.
Luckily, this has done nothing to derail the treaty, and we are already back on schedule. Americans are asked to PLEASE ONLY FIGHT AGAINST SPAIN IN ASTURIAS and NAVARRA. All other regions are being returned to Spain. This is per the terms of the Treaty.
Remember to follow the DoD Civilian Orders!

Secretary of State Tenshibo and the Head of Ambassadors, David Wilson are looking for a few good men (and women!) to become a United States Ambassador. Many prominent Americans were Ambassadors at one time. It is generally regarded as the quickest, and best way to get started on your career in Government.

Duties include visiting with foreign cabinet members on IRC and posting in their forums. You would also be responsible for writing daily reports on the news and foreign policy occuring in your assigned region.

Should a government make jokes, knowing that part of its citizens would not understand it?
Then again, it does say something about the person not understanding the joke as well.
Don't blame the audience when a joke falls flat. Its not their job to get the joke, its your job to sell it if you want to be funny.

Very few people didn't get the joke, but they were very vocal about it.

While I understand it was an attempt at humor; RL and eAmerican 'Birthers' are quite austere in their opinions regarding The Monarchy's absolute lack of involvement regarding American Autonomy.

Etheris, it dishonored the American Revolution. It's not about bombing or kidnapping, but taxation and sovereignty...from a real world that has little to do with the fake national skins stretched over a game that has more to do with visa and battle timers. C'mon man, don't make us burst the imaginary bubble of eNationality, so play along, Etheris.
The joke wasn't a capital offense, and no one need be hanged as a result of it.

To be honest, the British wanna be role play was on the same level of pathetic as the "revolution" but thankfully lasted only 1/4th as long.
I got the joke. I just didn't like the joke. there's a difference. but I will say that the outrage was a little over the top.
This just lowers my exceedingly low opinion of Israel Stevens further.

Stupid people are just stupid
To associate America with losers like the United Kingdom shows a total lack of understanding of the American psyche. Then to write an article telling us we are stupid because we didn't get the 'joke' shows a lack of respect for American citizens. The joke was idiotic, insulting and backfired completely, but instead of apologizing to America you tell us we have over reacted and that we are stupid.
I find it doubly insulting that Fhaemita Malodorous who has not only been a Congress member, but Speaker of the House, would have the audacity to tell America we are stupid.

The joke was obvious; just not funny. And judging by your feigned indignation at the fact that you got a lot of backlash for it, the whole thing was quite ill conceived. The current attempts at damage control are laughable at best. Better to just forget about it and move on IMO.

While it was not appropriate, it was in fact a little amusing.
I thought it was retarded. I'll say it. I'm not sure if you fgts were attempting to recreate The Revolution v 2.0 or not, but it was a dumb move which created negative publicity. Rather than make an arrogant assumption that the American populace is stupid, which is implied heavily, admit you derped and move on. 😛
You could've written this in three sentences:
1) If you didn't like my joke, you're obviously an idiot
2) Congress is filled with idiots too
3) Be an Amabassador for a group that thinks everybody's an idiot.
