Mission Statement
The Writers’ Guild of Canada aims to collectivize quality journalism and to establish a reliable and pertinent journalistic authority. The WGC will hold its members to stringent literary standards and restrict membership to ensure the maintenance of these principles. Further, the WGC will encourage social involvement in the community through its various awards, recognitions and tournaments. Ultimately, the definitive goal of the guild is to consistently establish new benchmarks in Canadian journalism and to serve the public's need for literary excellence.
The Writers' Guild of Canada (WGC) has been formed to represent the finest of the Canadian media. Member newspapers of the WGC will play a prime role in encouraging citizens who have made contributions to the various spheres of eCanadian life through its many awards, recognitions and tournaments.
Some of the projects that member newspapers of the WGC will embark on are as follows. The following list is not an exhaustive one:
- Man of the Month.
- Best Article Award of the Week.
- Congressional & Presidential Election Coverage.
- Presidential Candidate debates.
- Canada Prize PVP Tournament.
The WGC aims to create a higher level of public awareness in matters of importance to Canadians through such projects. It also hopes to serve as a means of encouragement to the recipients of these awards and recognitions.
Articles released by member newspapers of the guild will have [WGC] in their title (just like this article has) for easy recognition. The [WGC] tag is an assurance that the article you are reading maintains the stringent standards and guidelines of the WGC.
The guild currently has a limited membership of six at its inception in order to maintain its standards. Newer members will be nominated as time passes.
