[WGC] Presidential Debate Transcript

Day 531, 23:53 Published in Canada Canada by Dade Pendwyn

The debate was a bit shorter than usual, due to the unforeseen events of earlier in the afternoon. Here is the transcript of the debate in its entirety - those still on the fence would do well to read this to help form their opinion. Big thanks to everyone who showed up and to Trenton Rendell and Bruck for being flexible and accommodating.

[20:51] DadePendwyn: Ok Ladies and Gents
[20:51] DadePendwyn: Here's the format
[20:51] DadePendwyn: Some questions will be for both candidates - in that case I'll ask one person to answer first, then the other candidate
[20:51] DadePendwyn: When you are finished, please write *done*
[20:52] DadePendwyn: If I say a question is for both candidates, please have your answer ready if you aren't first so we can speed up the process
[20:52] DadePendwyn: Due to the delays we need to keep this fast
[20:52] DadePendwyn: Some questions will be for just one candidate. I may PM questions to candidates early so they can prepare their answer while the other candidate answers.
[20:52] DadePendwyn: First question
[20:53] DadePendwyn: This is for both candidates, I'll get Bruck to answer first
[20:53] DadePendwyn: Almost every tax change proposal comes with cries of more protectionism. How much of a barrier to international trade should our tax scheme be and which tax do you think needs to be changed?
[20:55] Bruck: eCanada is blessed with an exuberant amount of natural resources and as such we have all we need to supply our own interests and more. If one tax should be lowered it should be moving tickets, these are always in demand with the CAF and prices are high.
[20:55] Bruck: done
[20:55] DadePendwyn: Thank you. Trent?
[20:58] Trentonius: eCanada is indeed blessed with an high amount of Natural resources, I believe this should be shared with the world as well amoung ourselves, As for which tax should be change i believe the weapons tax due to the fact that soon eCanda will be involved with many 'Training' Wars and the demand for weapons will rise
[20:58] Trentonius: done
[20:58] DadePendwyn: Thank you
[20:58] DadePendwyn: This question is just for Bruck
[20:59] DadePendwyn: Members of the cabinet, including the general of the CAF and the minister of defense, have very publicly said they were not aware of the attack on France. If the ministers are not advising you on these issues, who is?
[21:01] Bruck: It was discussed and coordinated with members of the French government. It was decided that the attack was to commence the following day. Unfortunately I was having computer problems that day and was unable to even get on until 1 hour after the agreed start of the training. Done
[21:02] DadePendwyn: Thank you.
[21:02] DadePendwyn: The next question is for Trent.
[21:02] DadePendwyn: Due to the CSD debacle with Cleomynestra Cathak, you entered the race for president very late. How can Canadians be sure you've got a solid plan for the presidency when you only started campaigning today?
[21:06] Trentonius: Myself and leaders of the DAL and CPP have been discussing a possible 'emergency' candidacy, for this very case, We have a solid plan and a solid Cabinet.
[21:06] Trentonius: and I beleive that if elected we can straghting things out for eCanada
[21:06] Trentonius: done.
[21:06] DadePendwyn: Thank you Trent.
[21:06] DadePendwyn: This next question is for both candidates. Bruck will answer first
[21:07] DadePendwyn: I'll note that it is a combination question of Adasko and JustinTrudeau's questions
[21:07] DadePendwyn: The CAF is a fairly compact fighting force. If elected, what are your plans for expansion of the CAF, and what is the future of the CAF reserves?
[21:07] Bruck: If Reelected I plan to expand the CAF by 20% or 20 members, this will allow more of our ambitious new members to get involved and help eCanada at the same time. The CAF reserves may be expanded as well so that in the event of an emergency we have an organized list of reserves that can be supplied in order to defend their nation and support large attacks.
[21:07] Bruck: Done
[21:08] DadePendwyn: Thank you
[21:08] DadePendwyn: Trent?
[21:10] Trentonius: Boomers need to know the importance of the CAF and we need to get them interested in joining the CAF, I plan to start a recruitment campaign to get boomers interested in joing the CAF, And I believe very strongly in the Reserves I myself is a member, Its important and reassuring to eCanadians to know that there is a group of people who will be there to fight
[21:11] Trentonius: for eCanada. done.
[21:11] DadePendwyn: Thank you.
[21:11] DadePendwyn: This next question is just for Bruck
[21:12] DadePendwyn: What was the purpose of the trading embargo with Hungary, when we currently can not trade with them anyway due to an active war?
[21:15] Bruck: An ATLANTIS official made the decision and requested all members of ATLANTIS joined in and pressed these embargoes. However, they seem to have over looked the fact that we cannot trade with Hungary regardless. Embargos are however free so if peace were to be declared before the embargo ran out it would continue to do it’s job of cutting off PEACE financially
[21:15] Bruck: Done
[21:15] DadePendwyn: Thank you
[21:15] DadePendwyn: Next question is just for Trent
[21:15] DadePendwyn: While Bruck has been in the spotlight for quite some time, eCanadians are unfamiliar with your potential strengths and weaknesses. What would you say your greatest weakness as president will be?
[21:17] Trentonius: My greatest weakness, My temper I tend to become too passionate for something and when I don't see that something happen in my favour i tend to become angry.
[21:17] Trentonius: done.
[21:17] DadePendwyn: Thank you.
[21:17] DadePendwyn: I'd like to note an error I made earlier.
[21:17] DadePendwyn: The question of the CAF was a contribution of Goran and JustinTrudeau, not Adasko
[21:18] DadePendwyn: The following is for both candidates
[21:18] DadePendwyn: I'll get Bruck to answer first
[21:18] DadePendwyn: What will be your first move as president if elected?
[21:19] Bruck: As stated in my Platform and various news articles my first action as President will be to encourage Congress to take a stance on transparency and once agreed institute a vote to pass the issue and allow our eCanadian to finally know what Congress is doing. Done
[21:19] DadePendwyn: Thank you.
[21:19] DadePendwyn: Trent...same question
[21:21] Trentonius: My first move if Elected would be to straighting up the Cabinet, Bruck's cabinet is and always was a mess, How can eCanadians have faith in their Government when the Government is always switching or resigning. Done.
[21:21] DadePendwyn: Thank you
[21:22] DadePendwyn: Next question is for both candidates
[21:22] DadePendwyn: Bruck will answer first
[21:22] DadePendwyn: Bruck, what makes you a better president than Trent?
[21:23] Bruck: Mr Rendell has shown in the past that he is unable to remain civil in some instances, for instance when he lost party president elections to Cleo and began a campaign to discredit her. For a world leader maintaining ones composure is key and when faced with this task I have come out on top, showing world leaders that I will not back down. Done
[21:23] DadePendwyn: Thank you.
[21:23] DadePendwyn: Trent, what makes you a better president than Bruck?
[21:25] Trentonius: Bruck is a military man always is always will be, He see's the world as a 'ball of war' I on the other hand is able to see the world as it is a Diverse society that is able to work together to achieve greater things. Done.
[21:26] DadePendwyn: Thank you
[21:26] DadePendwyn: I have one last question for both of you. After you answer I'll be having a guest make an announcement. After that, the floor will be opened for informal discussion and questions for the candidates.
[21:27] DadePendwyn: I should say, I have one separate question for each of you. Bruck will answer first.
[21:28] DadePendwyn: Bruck, dozens if not hundreds of Canadians currently reside in Romania to gather experience and damage in the fights there. Can you justify that the experience they gain is worth the huge economic damages that is incurred by having a huge active population away from home?
[21:31] Bruck: I know eCanada would benefit from maintaining these citizens at home, buying eCanadian goods and working in eCanadian businesses but there is a greater issue at hand then the price of diamonds and that is the war with Indonesia. If Romania falls ATLANTIS goes with it.
[21:31] Bruck: eCanada stands by its allies and if that means a few dozen eCanadians are stationed in eRomania then that is the cost of survival. But if you ask these citizens they will understand, they also understand they they gain rank and experience while fighting in eRomania and this will help eCanada later directly.
[21:31] Bruck: Done
[21:31] DadePendwyn: Thank you
[21:31] DadePendwyn: The last official question of the evening is for Trent
[21:32] DadePendwyn: This question comes from JustinTrudeau
[21:32] DadePendwyn: Alex Rearden has been MOF for along time now and although he does a very good job, eCanada would be left with a huge hole if AR was to be unavailable to continue his duties....as PM would you instruct the MOF to allow his deputy more responsibility as to train the deputy for future succession into the position
[21:34] Trentonius: First off thank you Petz, Alex has done a tremendous job as MoF and I beleive without him eCanada would crumble and I beleive his Deputies should have more training as PM i plan to have all deputies recieve extra training to do the job of the main guy if he was unavailable
[21:35] Trentonius: done.
[21:35] DadePendwyn: Thank you Trent.
[21:35] DadePendwyn: That concludes the section of official questioning. Sorry for the short length of the debate, it was caused by the obligitory shakeup hours before the debate
[21:36] DadePendwyn: I'll now open the floor for dabman who has a short speech to make. After that, all members may ask questions
[21:36] * DadePendwyn sets mode: +v dabman
[21:36] dabman: Thank you
[21:36] dabman: First of all I want to thank Trenton for having the courage to debate Bruck with such short notice.
[21:37] dabman: It is important that this debate takes place for the sake of democracy.
[21:37] dabman: I want to apologize for this last moment CSD drop-out of the Presidential race. As one of the more active campaigners for Cleomynestra, I may be the best person to explain what events have transpired.
[21:37] dabman: A month before this election, the CSD was not an incredibly active party.
Cleomynestra picked up the chains and changed that. She was able to get people to participate, including me, to levels I have not seen during my membership of the CSD. Her desire to improve coordination was infectious, and I made every effort I could to reward her for her contributions.
[21:37] dabman: Her overwhelming win in the congressional and presidential party elections created - in my eyes - a candidate capable of winning the Presidency of eCanada and leading our nation to greatness. She was nominated as Presidential candidate for our party.
[21:37] dabman: As the campaign picked up, the pressure of the situation began to become a problem for Cleo. She was constantly bombarded with accusations she was unable to deal with alone. In addition to this, she also had some major events to deal with in her real life.
[21:38] dabman: If someone is busy enough with their own life, the last thing they want to do is come home and find a message like this in your personal email, which Cleo apparently di😛
[21:38] dabman: "Ur a cunt and u should die. Ur a worthless bitch who does nothing. Bruck you."
[21:38] dabman: I apologize for the language, but I think everyone has to hear this to realize the environment Cleo was surrounded by. I think we can conclude that the pressures of life and some lousy name-calling made eRepublik a game that Cleo found no enjoyment in participating in.
[21:38] dabman: I don't blame her for dropping out of the candidacy. Nevertheless, my party and I am now in an awkward position.
[21:38] dabman: I cannot be president of eCanada at this time. I am an graduating senior in university and have too much to handle outside of eRepublik. Additionally, I require more experience in order to handle the reins of the country.
[21:39] dabman: Though I have learned more than I ever had about the inner-workings of the government in this last congressional term, I would require still more to feel that I am a viable president. I do not accept this nomination for the sake of eCanada.
[21:39] dabman: But what damage will be done to democracy in eCanada if Bruck and CEP run with virtually no opposition? Power cannot go unchecked, that is very clear to me. If I had my way, I would endorse Trenton Rendell as presidential candidate. He would make a fine president, if only I had the power to change CSD's candidate, but I do not.
[21:39] dabman: It is an unfortunate decision I must make, but it must be done. I may disagree on issues with Bruck, his CEP party, and the worrisome signs that this two-term administration has had too much time in office. But Bruck has done many things right, and eCanada has certainly not gone downhill during the last two months.
[21:39] dabman: I tried to hold the first eCanada election poll this weekend. It is comforting to know the results of the poll, because it makes the decision relatively easier.
[21:39] dabman: Although I am essentially handing the election to Bruck, the poll indicates that he would have won by a large margin anyway. Of a sample size of 160 citizens, 67% responding voted for Bruck, and 33% voted for Cleo. The margin of error was 9%.
[21:40] dabman: Because Cleo may not come back and change CSD's candidate, I am going to leave my party to drop out of the race. This means Bruck will be facing Miloslav and any candidate the other parties can agree on. I urge all citizens to think critically about how they will cast their vote.
[21:40] dabman: The CSD election campaign has failed, but we cannot let democracy fail in eCanada! Thank you and goodnight!
[21:40] dabman: done
[21:40] DadePendwyn: Thank you dabman. I should note that dabman was speaking on behalf of the CSD and not on behalf of the moderators of the debate, nor the WGC.
[21:41] DadePendwyn: I'd like to thank everyone who came out to watch
[21:41] DadePendwyn: Bruck for being extremely flexible
[21:41] DadePendwyn: And Trenton for agreeing to do this on extremely short notice
[21:41] DadePendwyn: I'll now open up the floor for informal questions
[21:41] DadePendwyn: I'd like to note that Adasko, and Desdemona have good questions that didn't have time for the official debate
[21:42] DadePendwyn: And perhaps others
[21:42] DadePendwyn: Thank you everyone for coming. Keep an eye out for the official transcript released via either the Canadian Conduit or the Guild Quill. It should be up tonight. Good luck in the elections tomorrow, and good night
