Citizens,
The possible merge between the UK and the UNL is a big issue.
Throughout this term debates, discussions, negotiations, and meetings have been held.
During these meetings the points of discussion have been numerous, and (for as far as we can see now) the support got smaller every day.
A poll was opened by citizens, where you can vote on your feelings towards the possible merge, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls upon every citizen in the UNL to vote!

The elections are coming, and will be of great influence on this subject.
We do not yet know who will take the flace as MoFA.
But in my opinion we need a big support from our citizens to do it.
Still, I have one more option that me and the UK president came up with while talking today:
A political merge without an ingame merge:
Like the "Kingdom of the Netherlands IRL" 3 independant equal countries in 1 kingdom (union)
- UK
- NL
- BEL
All will have their ingame elections, and their own congress (like with the Kingdom of the Netherlands IRL) and mayby their own governments. But also shared ministers, aspecially on Foreign Affairs, Finance and Defense.
This is just a very early and rough version of the idea, but it would remove almost all issues there are when looking at a real merge.

Is it an official vote ?
That sounds interesting... How would it work out in terms of defence and finance?
@ Dylan: No, it is still "owned" by a citizen. But the MoFA looks at it to get a clue 🙂
@ John: Dont know, mayby a minister per state that gather, or 1 minister for the whole "empire". One big army holds many advantages.

So if i understand we wanted to merge to reduce cost, and now we multiply them ?
But you're right, all options have to be studied.
But with this article, it's look like it's an official position of the eUNL government ? Is it ?
I think what Flando means that besides the question merger with the UK and not merger with the UK we could consider this third option. He isnt saying that we should just giving us information to think about.
That said i personally dont like this idea very much. It is kind of merging and kind of not merging which doesnt work for me. Either we do or we dont.
Mitch is right, this could be another option.
And to Mitch: This is not merging, but cooperating.
I'm glad the MoFA informs us all of possible options in an early stage! 🙂 (you all wanted transparency and to know what the government does/discusses, right?)

I'd like the citizens to be an active part of the UNL, transparency and proposing ideas are a big part of it.
why not an ingame merge with the system you've described ? (local authonomy)
Because an igame merge is the problem, the costs, the RW's, the hospitals etc.
And this kind of merge can be broken anytime. Without a war.
I don't like the idea of an actual merge, because in reality, that would be an occupation of Belgium and the Netherlands by the UK.
We will have to coöperate to keep us standing in this world as "smaller" countries, but that is also possible with three independent countries working closely together.

I think this is a splendid idea. It gives the advantages of a merge, and reduces a lot of the disadvantages of it.
If you take a look at all the reasons why people dislike a merge on both sides, like loosing identity, financial costs, being bound, ... those can be overcome with this proposal. It will make all three countries stronger. UK has a safeguard on the continent, Nl and Belgium have a strong nation backing them up. This unity will also mean an advantage for other allies from the UK and by including Belgium, you save costs for RW.
You have any idea Flando when and how this eventual merge will be discussed and/or voted?
