[UKGov]Conflicts Continue Across Europe

Day 1,151, 17:56 Published in United Kingdom North Macedonia by Foreign Office
Hello and welcome to another update from the eUK Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This time I am not going to spend much time talking about alliances, as I think the recent article by former UK CP jamesw is a good summary. I will focus on the exciting developments in the war module over the last few days :3

Battles continue to rage in the Southern Balkans

Since my last article the war in the Balkans has intensified significantly, and has caused babybooms in all four of the countries involved, with 2 of the four involved, Macedonia and Greece, moving up into the top 5 countries by population. The original Macedonian attack on Sofia was secured by Bulgaria after a close battle. Bulgaria followed this up with an attack on Eastern Macedonia, which was easily defended by the ex Phoenix power. Macedonia then retaliated, hitting Sofia for a second time and this time winning spectacularly 8-1, although Bulgaria were possibly distracted by Greek-Turkish battles, marking the first time Macedonia conquered a non original region. They then moved on Vidin, which resulted in yet another emphatic victory, although Vidin was later returned to Bulgaria via resistance war. Earlier today Macedonia attacked Ruse, a grain region that would be useful for Macedonia's young economy, however are currently losing heavily, 6-1. Meanwhile, Turkey and Greece have continued their skirmishes, with Greece currently holding the upper hand, having conquered the heavily populated region of Marmara, which explains their high population. They have now moved on to Black Sea Coast of Turkey, which was held by the Eurasian superpower, 8-0, meaning they will attempt to retake Marmara at some point tomorrow. Overall, this war is looking like it may calm down, as neither side is making major progress, and with the lack of formal alliances may not be able to coordinate support as well as they'd like to, especially in the case of Macedonia and Turkey.

The Slovenian invasion of Italy continues

The Slovenian invasion of Italy, which began at the tail end of 2010, is still going strong. My last report left off with their successful victory in Marche, and my suggestion they are leaving Tuscany for now for some reason still seems to hold true. After Marche they struck Umbria, which they won easily and then followed that up with an attack on Abruzzo, continuing their journey southwards, and not choosing to attack Saltpeter in Tuscany or hitting the real life capital region of Lazio. They won in Abruzzo and if they continue in a similar vein they will probably attack Molise at some point tomorrow. It looks likely that Slovenia will wipe Italy, who are not getting any real support from their EDEN allies, although they have launched a slew of RWs to try and return some of their regions, but it is hard to say how successful they will be at this stage.

Poland invade the Netherlands

Earlier this week Poland declared the Netherlands as their natural enemy, with their motives for invasion slightly unclear, however they probably wanted some fun and possibly secure sources of Oil and Cattle, as their current Oil and Cattle regions are in the USA so could be threatened at some point by the PANAM superpower. They hit the Eastern Netherlands, a very exciting and close battle where NL were helped by mobile forces from around the world, including EDEN Romania. It ended up with NL's one MPP versus Poland's 18 only narrowly losing out 8-7. The other Dutch regions fell quickly, with the small Western European nation preferring to save its gold and return to the map through cheaper resistance wars. They have begun the RW campaign with one in the Eastern Netherlands, but look likely to lose, with the Polish probably wanting any successful RWs to be started by Poles for the resistance medal.

The Rest
- Russia continue their invasion Ukraine, acquiring important grain regions as well as Saltpeter in Taurida. However Slovakia have done a deal with Ukraine where they will get 2 regions but RW them back in time for the congress elections if the country is still off the map, to prevent open citizenship which could lead to PTO.
- Indonesia conquer their smaller neighbour Malaysia and then move on to the Philippines, both of whom are founding members of the new PACMAN alliance in South East Asia and meaning Indonesia only need one more resource, Deer, to have the full set of resources and get the full economic bonuses.
- The USA are swapping through Pakistan, possibly towards Iran or perhaps somewhere further south.
- Iran are again attempting to RW the two Bulgarian regions on their territories, Yazd and South Western Iran, both of which look like they'll be a success.

That's it for today, hopefully there'll be even more exciting events to talk about next time 🙂
